Around Azeroth: Zangarmarsh showers

Mar 16th, 2008

Player Cosmokramer of the Vanquish guild on Kul Tiras realm was slogging through the fens of Zangarmarsh when he spied this waterfall. Being a gnome, he knew it he had to take his opportunities to bathe where he could get them.

Do you have any unusual World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? Because we'd love to see it on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wowinsider.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!

Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. We prefer full screen shots without the UI showing. And please, no more sunsets. This means you. I'm not kidding, yours is not the exception. No, really. Sigh.

Around Azeroth: Splash!

Jan 23rd, 2008

Reader Michael sends in this shot taken in the lush landscape of Feralas. And though you may be inclined tot take this for just another waterfall, Michael points out an interesting detail: the water splashes off the rocks as it falls. Is this a recent addition, or just something we've never bothered to pay attention to before? Either way, lovely! (Also available in wallpaper size.)

Around Azeroth: The Nagrand Falls

Jun 19th, 2007

In what is becoming a continuing series of waterfall-related posts, I bring you The Nagrand Falls, just outside Shattrath City, courtesy of Dibbs on Shadowsong (EU). And regardless of where the water may or may not be coming from, it's a lovely shot of some of the amazing scenery to be found in Outland.

Around Azeroth: But where does the water come from? (Revisited)

Jun 18th, 2007

You may recall recently seeing an Around Azeroth post featuring a screenshot of one of the many floating islands in Nagrand (and Outland in general), this one with a waterfall falling gracefully over the sides. I wondered, at the time, where the water was coming from to create this never-ending waterfall. Today, reader Fanny of Twisting Nether sends in a shot taken from Stranglethorn Vale, near Booty Bay, showing where water within Azeroth comes from -- out of thin air! I've got to say this explains everything... if Azerothian waterfalls can come from nowhere, why should Outland waterfalls be any different?

Around Azeroth: But where does the water come from?

Jun 15th, 2007

Around Azeroth has looked at plenty of waterfalls before. And why not? They tend to be scenic views wherever in the World of Warcraft they come from. However, the waterfall we're looking at today is a bit different from any we've looked at before -- because unlike the ordinary waterfalls of Azeroth, this one has no apparent source of water. After all, a stream can hardly flow to an island floating in mid-air, can it? So where's that water coming from? Reader Boterham of Drek'Thar (EU), who sent us this shot, wonders too. Anyone in the audience care to take a stab at guessing how the Outland ecosystem works?

Around Azeroth: Waterfall in the Wetlands

Feb 14th, 2007

Reader Robert sends in this shot of an impressive waterfall flowing into the Wetlands. When taking a gryphon towards the Wetlands, you'll often get a good shot of this one, and the Stonewrought Dam (an impressive site that cannot properly be seen from land) above it, while flying overhead. I may be mistaken, but I want to say this is the largest waterfall in Azeroth -- though you're welcome to contradict me if I'm forgetting one!
