Insider Trader: Faction recipes for jewelcrafters, part one

Insider Trader is your inside line on making, selling, buying and using player-made products.

With all of the Wrath news flying around lately, it is a welcome break to be covering live content. For the past few weeks, Insider Trader has been delving into the recipes that each trade can acquire from factions by earning reputation.

So far, we've covered:
  • Plans for blacksmiths.
  • Recipes for alchemists.
  • Patterns for leatherworkers.
  • Patterns for tailors.
This week, we'll be looking into faction-supplied designs for jewelcrafters, and because of the sheer number of them, this will continue into next week as well.

Here's a breakdown of the factions to which you'll be paying a fair amount of attention: (Note that the bold entries will be covered in this week's edition).
  • Violet Eye, honored. (Karazhan)
  • Thrallmar or Honor Hold, revered.
  • Lower City, revered.
  • Aldor or Scryers, revered.
  • Sha'tar, revered.
  • Keepers of Time, revered.
  • Scale of the Sands, revered. (Mount Hyjal)
  • Cenarion Expedition, exalted.
  • Consortium, exalted.
  • Shattered Sun Offensive, exalted.

Insider Trader: Faction recipes for leatherworkers

Insider Trader is your inside line on making, selling, buying and using player-made products.

After a brief hiatus, Insider Trader is back and ready to take on the faction world. As you progress through Outland as a leatherworker, it will be helpful to know the factions with which you will need to be in high favor.

Here's a quick summary:
  • Honored: Ashtongue Deathsworn, Sha'tar, Keepers of Time.
  • Revered: Consortium, Kurenai/Mag'har, Lower City.
  • Exalted: Cenarion Expedition, Honor Hold/Thrallmar, Aldor/Scryers, Violet Eye.

Insider Trader: Faction recipes for alchemists

Insider Trader is your inside line on making, selling, buying and using player-made products.

Last week, Insider Trader examined the factions that a new tailor in Outland will need to buddy up to, including what recipes they had to offer, and how far you'd need to go.

Today, we will continue through the series with the following guide to faction recipes for alchemists in Outland. Here is the quick breakdown of what you will need to grind:
  1. Honored with Honor Hold or Thrallmar.
  2. Honored with the Violet Eye (Kara).
  3. Revered with Kurenai or Mag'har. *This one may not be worth it.
  4. Revered with Scryers. Aldor has nothing for alchemists.
  5. Exalted with the Cenarion Expedition.
  6. Exalted with Sporeggar.
  7. Exalted with Lower City.
  8. Exalted with Shattered Sun.
  9. Exalted with the Sha'tar.
  10. Exalted with the Keepers of Time.

Insider Trader: Faction recipes for tailors

Insider Trader is your inside line on making, selling, buying and using player-made products.

You are a newly minted level 58, and you are about to walk through the Dark Portal for the first time. Once you set foot on the other side, and with a bit of wandering, you will surely begin to realize how many factions there are whose reputation you may or may not need to grind.

As a tailor, you will unfortunately not find too many exciting new recipes aside from the threads you will learn to craft from your Scryers or Aldor allegiance. Here is the quick breakdown:
  • Honored with the Consortium
  • Honored with Lower City
  • Revered with Sporeggar
  • Exalted with Scryers or Aldor
  • Honored with the Ashtongue Deathsworn (Black Temple)

Insider Trader: Jewelcrafting, the final stretch part 2

Last week, Insider Trader began the journey from 300 to 375 jewelcrafting skill. While we were able to avoid using recipes that required faction reputation or that had to be farmed, the cheapest methods to 375 from about 365 may require a bit more effort to obtain.

If you are like so many other craftsmen, stuck with 375 seeming far away and expensive, then carry on through the break to examine ways to not only maximize your skills, but to attempt to make a profit while doing so, rather than running on a loss.

Featuring several distinct ways to reach 375, you will find that you have many choices to suit your own needs, your guild's needs, and your server's market. In addition, I've put together some links for further reading that you should find helpful.

Each week, Insider Trader takes you behind the scenes of the bustling sub-culture of professional craftsmen, examining the profitable, the tragically lacking, and the methods behind the madness. For more guides to maximizing your chosen profession, check out the final stretches for Leatherworkers and Alchemists alike, as well as part one of Jewelcrafting's final stretch. Insider Trader: Jewelcrafting, the final stretch part 1

Despite the overwhelming support from our readers during our brief but flower-tastic adventures as HKO-Insider, I will be unable to delve any further into the professions of the Flower Kingdom. That's okay; they were prejudiced against jewelcrafters anyway.

Two weeks ago, I posted Insider Trader's guide to the final stretch of Alchemy, and Runstadrey posted the following comment in response:

Excellent article, very in depth and thorough. I'm eagerly awaiting the same treatment for my stalled JC.

How could I resist a request preceded by flattery? I might have even produced this last week, had patch 2.4 not have dropped; after all, we can't have all of our jewelcrafters stalled mid-level. I am looking forward to reading the comment section for this guide, as the cheapest way on paper always varies because of unique server economies.

For the first part of the guide, which will show you how to reach 355 jewelcrafting in the cheapest manner possible, pass on through the break.

A man, a plan, a faction

There are a lot of new factions in the Burning Crusade. Just by looking at WoWWiki's factions page, I can count thirteen, and that's combining all the opposed faction ones like Honor Hold/Thrallmar, Mag'Har/Kurenai, and Aldors/Scryers.

With so many factions, it's nearly impossible to grind rep with all of them. So I've come up with a game plan. I have to get revered with Thrallmar, Lower City, the Sha'Tar, Cenarion Expedition and Keepers of Time to get my Mount Hyjal attunement, so those are a given. That alone should net me a couple of transmutes and alchemy recipes.

Aside from that, I have two factions I am considering grinding to exalted: the Scryers and the Consortium. They both have excellent daggers available at exalted, and I'd like to be able to start the endgame off with some good daggers. The Keepers of Time also have a nice dagger, but they seem significantly harder to grind solo than the other two. Plus, the Consortium is a group of ethereal smugglers! How cool is that?

After I've been 70 for a while, I may go back and do some exalted grinds to pick up alchemy recipes, but I doubt I'll be in any hurry. What factions do you want to grind out, and what reputation rewards are you lusting after?

Adventures in Beta: The Aldors and the Scryers

Get ready for the reputation grind of all reputation grinds. The Aldors and the Scryers are two competing factions in the Burning Crusade -- and they offer enough profession recipes that you just might want to do the grind twice.

The Aldors and the Scryers both make their home in Shattrath City, the Orgrimmar/Ironforge of the Outlands. The Aldors are a group of Draenei priests, while the Scryers are Blood Elf magic-users. Both factions are helping the Naaru fight the Burning Legion, but they're also competing with each other for power. This has a nasty effect on you, the player, because completing quests for the Scryers will decrease your Aldor faction, and vice versa. It's kind of like the Magram and Gelkis centaur clans all over again, except this one actually matters.
