Tips for leveling Fishing past 225 at level 70

So here I am at level 70, back in the land where your mom is that easy and Chuck Norris is that cool: The Barrens. I'm not here to save the Crossroads from ganking Allies and I'm not here to run noobs through Wailing Caverns (so stop asking). I'm here to fish.

Fishing is the one secondary skill I didn't work on because, well, it's boring. But now that you can make tons of cash with the new Fishing Dailies, I'm leveling up fish-catching skills. The problem is that once you get to 225, and finish that annoying quest with Nat Pagle, fishing gets even more boring than it was before. No matter where you fish, each skillup is farther apart and you have to hang out in places that are far below your level if you don't want to miss a lot.

The first thing I did was search WoW Insider, because that usually does the trick and I found a great guide to Fishing and Cooking, but the advice for leveling to 300 says "may god have mercy on your soul because Blizzard won't." Not a good sign. I also found a link to El's Extreme Anglin' which is a fantastic fishing site, but I couldn't find any advice for making the trip from 225 any less painful. So I asked The Spousal Unit who has won the Fishing Extravaganza more than once and after some experimentation on my own, I'm well on my way past 265 and making a lot of cash at the same time.

My tips are after the jump.

The 7 best trinkets in the World of Warcraft

You know, if there's one thing I have noticed digging through my bags, it's that I have a whole mess of trinkets. Of all the gear slots, it seems like trinkets are some of the most versatile and swappable. Depending on whether you need a bit more hit rating, a bit more critical strike rating, a bit more mana regeneration, a bit more health, a bit more armor, or you plan to go PvPing for a bit, you can fill up bags upon bags alone with a whole bunch of trinkets, waiting for the right moment to spring them.

Then there's the really bad ass trinkets. I'm not talking trinkets that are traditionally defined as "useful," I'm talking about the trinkets that make you into the life of the party. The ones that make other people notice you, make them stand up and say, "Woah, that guy is using some CRAZY trinkets." You know what I mean. Stop trying to get yourself that Ashtongue Talisman, these are the REAL deal.

Well Fed Buff: Savory Deviate Delight

Every Thursday, Well Fed Buff will be serving up the tastiest dishes to boost your HP and stats, just in time for your weekend gaming.

Hands down, the best recipe in all of World of Warcraft is Savory Deviate Delight. I will hear no arguments or opinions on this. I decided to try making it for dinner. I don't know what happened. All of a sudden there was a loud "Yaaarrr!" And my friend turned into a pirate in a puff of smoke. It was absolutely incredible. Your results may vary.

Savory Deviate Delight is always in demand. It can turn players into a Human pirate or a ninja for an hour. It doesn't really benefit the player in anyway, but who wouldn't want to be a pirate or a ninja. The Savory Deviate Delight Recipe randomly drops in the Barrens. The materials for the in-game version are Deviate Fish which can be caught in pools in the Barrens Oases and Mild Spices which can be purchased from cooking and trade vendors. Wowhead lists auction house buyout prices of 36 gold for the recipe and 63 silver for the individual consumables.

The real-life version is somewhat more complicated than the in-game rendition. Read on for my Savory Deviate Delight recipe. Get it while it's hot!

Breakfast Topic: Which class is the most piratey?

Yes, I know, yesterday was International Talk Like A Pirate Day, if I thought of this question on ITLAP Day, then that should make this count, right?

Yar. Anyways, I got to wondering, which class would make the bestest pirates in the open waters, or on the open lands. My first reaction was rogues -- those scoundrelly rascals -- who could launch surprise attacks and scheme and cheat their way into any big adventure. But then I thought, no, rogues go around pick-pocketing people, hiding in the shadows, and wearing those silly hoods. No, indeed, rogues are actually much closer to ninjas with their "Ambush, Eviscerate, Vanish!" style of attack! And everybody knows "all nature says that pirates and ninjas must be enemies."

So then I got to thinking maybe warriors would be better -- fury warriors! Dual wielding those fancy rapiers, shouting at the top of their lungs, wearing that fancy... plate... armor.... And then I thought, pirates don't wear plate armor. They have to wear snazzy buccaneer pants, a gentleman's jacket worn all lazy-like, and possibly have some good dreadlocks for good measure. Some dirt always helps too.

My conclusion was that no class is an exact pirate match, but some classes come pretty close in spirit. Warlocks, for example, are very piratey in their own way, going against the grain of society so to speak. But perhaps it doesn't matter which class you are, as long as you can say "Arrr matey!" and perhaps have some Savory Deviate Delight. What do you think is the most piratey-est class in the World of Warcraft?

Raiding Alliance bosses.... with style!

Some guilds are formed for raiding, some guilds are formed for PvP, some guilds are formed for leveling, some guilds are formed for social reasons... but Los Banditos Locos seems to have been formed with the goal of eliminating Alliance faction leaders while dressed up as pirates (well, okay, the pirate idea seemed to slip in later -- perhaps just killing faction bosses was dull on its own?). No, Los Banditos Locos isn't the only guild to make the effort to take out faction bosses, but with their pirate attire, they pull it off with more style than anyone else. So as a fitting end to Talk Like a Pirate Day, I offer you a complete collection of Los Banditos Locos raids (with their Bandito Coastguard video, above, as a bonus). See the Banditos taking out Archdruid Fandral Staghelm in Darnassus, the Lady Jaina Proudmoore in high in her Theramore tower, Highlord Bolvar Fordragon in the heart of Stormwind City, Prophet Velen (who probably thought the Exodar was safe), the Gnomish King High Tinker Gelbin Mekkatorque, and finally Dwarf King Magni Bronzebeard in Ironforge. For all the pirate action you need, check out the Fordragon kill and the Bronzebeard kill.

Breakfast Topic: Whar be the naval battles, matey?

Arr mateys! For those that be not in the know, today be International Talk Like a Pirate Day, and we be dedicatin' much a' today to those seafarin' scallywags, the pirates! That said, writing like that for any length of time makes my brain twitch, so you'll have to pardon me while I simply keep with the overall theme and instead wish you all a happy Talk Like a Pirate Day. Yarr!

Warming up for Wrath of the Pirate King, err Lich King, I've been revisiting my old copies of the Warcraft RTS games. One of the things that I always enjoyed from Warcraft II was the fact that I got to build boats, load my Orcs and Trolls up and go pounce on the unsuspecting Alliance. (My friends seemed to enjoy doing much the same by pouncing on my little Horde villages in return when we'd play together.) In replaying the games now, I've gotten to once again load up those boats and sail around, torching oil platforms and raiding towns. With the talk of the buildings that will be destroyable in WotLK, I can't help but wonder -- where are our naval skirmishes? In WoW, you can ride the same boats with the opposite faction from Booty Bay to Ratchet. But at no point do you get to jump on a boat and attack the other faction's boats or take out shipyards.

I can't be the only one who liked the ship battles from days of Warcraft yore. So for today's Breakfast Topic -- If they offered ship-based PvP, would you play it? How about if you were helping your side to cut the other side off from "resources" kind of like a ship-based version of AB? Did you like the sailing action in the previous RTS games too? How would you like to see ship battles enacted, were Blizzard to do them in the future?

Forum Post of the Day: What did the pirate spec his mage?

Well, I think this collection of jokes on the official forums is absolutely hilarious -- combining my interests in both World of Warcraft and pirates -- but quite a few posters seem to feel the thread I'm about to point you to is quite groan-worthy. So if you don't feel like you can take yet another pirate pun, you may want to stop reading now. But for those of you who enjoy this sort of pure goofiness, have I got the forum thread for you. Poster Grinbomb gets us started with this joke:

Q: What did the pirate spec his mage?
A: Arrrrcane.

And the madness continues from there:

Q: What's a pirate's favorite lore character?
A: Arrrrthas.

True Bloodsail Buccaneers will be amused. The rest of you should go on with your lives elsewhere. (And for those of you wanting to show your allegiances, there's always this fine shirt from J!NX.)
