One Boss Leaves: Illidan vs Kel'Thuzad wrap up

Well, well, well, who doesn't love a surprise ending? Despite rampant and on going accusations that I have fixed this deathmatch series in Illidan's favor since the beginning (which is laughable because I only took over the feature a few months ago), it looks like Scourge of the Outland was, say it with me now, "not prepared."

Kel'Thuzad, the Archlich of the Plaguelands, trusted lieutenant of Arthas, final boss of Naxxramas and of pre-BC WoW, laid the smack down on all the haters. Two bosses may have entered, but only one has left. Final results below.

That wraps up this series we started all the way back in June with 32 bosses. Each pair entered a neutral arena and you got to vote who walked away the victor. Whether based on abilities, lore or random poll clicking, you chose the ultimate winner.

When Wrath of the Lich King launches, we'll be bringing about another round of Two Bosses Enter with a mix of all new bosses and some returning favorites. Until then, thanks to everyone who participated and made this a fun event for everyone involved.

Special thanks the reader Ian for the pointing us to the pic of Kel'Thuzad above. Kel's publicist would be proud.

One Boss Leaves: Illidan vs C'Thun wrap up

The last two of the Final Four have entered the Arena for a raid boss deathmatch and only one has left alive. This was one of the most anticipated fights in the series as the bane of the Outlands, Illidan Stormrage faced the Old God of Ahn'Qiraj, C'Thun. The debate over who would be victorious raged but in the end, Illidan walked out the winner.

While some readers voted based on powers available to each opponent ("shear ftw!", "no one survives the eye beam of death!"), others cast their lot based on lore ("c'thun is an old god and undefeatable", "illidan is clever and prepared"). Whatever the reason, it was clear from the voting results seen below that C'Thun was not prepared.

Up next, the final battle of the series. The end boss of pre-2.4 Burning Crusade, Illidan Stormrage vs the end boss of pre-BC WoW, Kel'thuzad. Which boss will leave the arena alive? Which boss will reign supreme? Which boss will be sharding his purplez for greenz when the Wrath expansion launches? Cast your vote in the final installment of Two Bosses Enter!

One Boss Leaves: Sapphiron vs Kel'thuzad wrap up

Last week the first showdown of the Final Four went head-to-head in a neutral Arena. Did the undead Blue dragon Sapphiron overcome his Naxxrammas neighbor, the Archlich of the Plaugelands Kel'thuzad? Or did Kel'thuzad overwhelm his opponent in the battle of the undead bosses?

Though both bosses have heavy frost based powers, they also both have heavy frost resistance. That leaves their remaining abilities of which Kel'thuzad's Shadow Fissure was considered by commenters to be Sapphiron's downfall. The master claims victory over his guard.

The Archlich moves on to the final battle of the series next week to face off against the winner of tonight's titanic battle between the notorious scourge of the Outlands, Illidan Stormrage and possibly the most difficult boss in the game, the old god, C'thun. With only two weeks to go before we crown a winner, who will be the last boss to leave?

One Boss Leaves: Princess Huhuran vs C'thun wrap up

Last week, Princess Huhuran faced off against her Ahn'Qiraj boss, C'thun. Unfortunately, the Old God was too much for his faithful lieutenant and she fell to his eye beam of death. There was some debate on whether she was too big to be swallowed (where she could actually damage him in what passes for his stomach.) But despite some well written comments in favor of Huhuran, the votes have decided that C'thun emerges the winner of this round.

The Final Four are now set to face off as we get closer to determining who is the baddest boss in all of WoW. Next week, Sapphiron, the skeletal frost wyrm enters the arena against Kel'Thuzad, the Archlich of the Plaugelands for an undead deathmatch (un-deathmatch? undeadmatch?). In two weeks, we'll have what is probably the most anticipated fight of the series: Illidan vs C'thun. And the week after that we'll have the final showdown to see which boss will reign supreme on Two Bosses Enter.

One Boss Leaves: Illidan vs Twin Emperors wrap up

Last week, Illidan Stormrage the Betrayer, entered the arena against double threat of Ahn'Qiraj, the Twin Emperors. Did Illidan's Shear decimate the Qiraji brothers or did the Lord of the Outlands fall to the siblings' superior numbers?

Reader Dierle summed it up well: [Illidan would] use his normal elf form to slice up the melee vulnerable twin, and his giant demon caster form to blast apart the magic vulnerable twin. Even if they DID get allowed to use their proximity heal, Illidan could throw down his warglaives and use his fire elementals to keep them separated. That would make it game over for the Twin Emperors.

Illidan moves on to the Final Four. His opponent will be determined when the voting opens tomorrow in the death match of Ahn'Qiraj bosses: Princess Huhuran vs. C'thun.

One Boss Leaves: Ragnaros vs. Kel'Thuzad wrap up

Last week the Firelord of Molten Core, Ragnaros entered the Arena to face down the Archlich of the Plagueland, Kel'Thuzad. Did Ragnaros' Magma Blast burn the competition into a crisp or did the lethal combination of Shadow Fissure and frost attacks send the Elemental Lord to Blackrock Mountain in defeat?

This was a close one, but Kel'Thuzad's dark and cold arsenal overwhelms Ragnaros' fiery bag of tricks. The lieutenant of the Old Gods could not escape Kel's Shadow Fissure. And even if he could, Kel's multiple shadow and frost attacks would overwhelm Rag's limited fire abilities.

The Archlich moves on to the Final Four to face off against Sapphiron in the battle of the Undead Shadow/Frost bosses. Tomorrow, the infamous Illidan Stormrage goes head-to-head with The Twin Emperors of Ahn'Qiraj. And the winner of that epic battle will face off the winner of next week's Princess Huhuran/C'thun deathmatch. With only a few weeks left, we will soon see who will be the winner of Two Bosses Enter.

One Boss Leaves: Sapphiron vs. Hakkar wrap up

Last week, the undead frost wyrm of Northrend, Sapphiron squared off against the Troll god of Zul'Gurub, Hakkar the Soulflayer in a neutral arena to see who is the top boss. Did the Blue Dragon freeze out the competition or did the Faceless One slither into victory?

Though Hakkar has a mean damage/healing combo and an earlier Enrage timer, the votes confirm that Sapphiron's superior dps output and own healing & Enrage abilities would allow him to triumph over the Blood God. There was some debate about Hakkar's abilty to mind control the undead, but in the end only one boss leaves the arena.

Sapphiron moves on to the final four where he will face off against the winner of our next Two Bosses Enter showdown. Who will win when the Firelord of Molten Core, Ragnaros goes up against Kel'Thuzad, the Archlich of the Plaguelands? Voting starts tomorrow.

One Boss Leaves: Gruul vs. C'Thun wrap-up

Last week, two bosses entered a neutral Arena, the Old God C'thun and the bane of the Black Dragonflight, Gruul. Which one survived and which one got slaughtered in this battle of the boss mobs?

Let's just say C'Thun and his eye laser of instant death means this Ahn'Qiraj raid mob has a shiny new Tier 4 Leggings token to turn in right about now with more than 75% of the vote. There was some rallying around Gruul's ability to withstand a beating, but most of his abilities were useless against a knockback resistant C'thun.

This battle finishes up the second bracket of battles. We are now down to the final eight. Next up on Two Bosses Enter, the first battle of the bracket: Sapphiron , the undead frost wyrm vs. the Troll god of Zul'Gurub, Hakkar the Soulflayer.

One Boss Leaves: Vashj vs. Huhuran wrap-up

Another week is upon us, which means another edition of Two Bosses Enter, our weekly deathmatch series, has come to a close. This week, Princess Huhuran overwhelmed Lady Vashj with 56% of the total vote. (Hmm... Vashj must have forgotten her nature resist set.) Though you might not think an oversized wasp could defeat a powerful Naga like Vashj, you've clearly never tangled with this particular insect: don't discount this bug's prowess (and nasty nature damage). Full details below:

For more bosses fighting amongst themselves (hey, it's better than when they fight you, isn't it?), check back tonight for the next round of Two Bosses Enter, when Gruul will match up against C'Thun!

One Boss Leaves: Twin Emperors vs. Chromaggus wrap-up

As you might guess from the image above, the Twin Emperors came out ahead in our last matchup, though the final votes were close. As usual, debate raged over the abilities each boss would be able to use, with complaints being raised over both the Twins' healing ability (which we considered out -- and come on, folks, if it were allowed, there wouldn't have been any point) and Chromaggus' breaths (which eventually turned the target into a drakonoid) considered in. In the end, however, the Twins winning by 40 votes. Interested in more boss on boss action? Check back tonight for the next fight in our line-up, Lady Vashj vs. Princess Huhuran!

One boss leaves!

Technically, this week, it's "two bosses leave" because we're wrapping up two separate fights. First up, Kel'Thuzad vs. Archimonde. This was a close fight, with a 14 votes (out of a total of 2508) separating the winner from the loser. As you might guess, opinions on the article were quite varied, with little consensus as to who would win or why -- but in the end, 14 more voters felt that Kel'Thuzad would be victorious.

Our next fight pitted Vaelastrasz against Illidan -- and this one was pretty clear cut, with Illidan getting a comfortable 67% of the vote. (Though there was a good amount of debate over the fairness of the abilities included for consideration, both Vael's Burning Adrenaline and Illidan's Shear.) Tragic, really, as I was rooting for Vael. (As commenter George M. noted, "Vaelastrasz destroyed Guilds. True story.")

If you enjoyed these fights, the next is set to be just as dramatic! Check back later to voice your opinion on the Twin Emperors against Chromaggus. (And check our brackets for the upcoming fight schedule.)

One Boss Leaves: Ragnaros vs. Ossirian wrap-up

Another week is over -- leaving us with another winner and another loser in our weekly series of fantasy deathmatches. Last week we tossed the Firelord Ragnaros into our theoretical arena along with Ossirian the Unscarred. Despite quite a few comments suggesting Ossirian's Supreme Mode would make him completely unkillable, the final results turned out in Ragnaros' favor:

Thanks to the commenters who are enjoying our game in the spirit it was intended, especially mortalbound, whose recreation of the fight is too lengthy to reprint here, and Vaylix, who accurately noted, "This isn't about your data, or in game logic. This is about who is more awesome." Check back later for our next match, complete with more awesome, just for you.

One Boss Leaves: Moam vs. Hakkar wrap-up

For the second time in our Two Bosses Enter competition, Zul'Gurub's Hakkar emerges victorious over a lesser World of Warcraft raid boss. Leaving our competiton is Moam, whom our readers determined would simply be overwhelmed by Hakkar's Blood Siphon ability. (Though, seriously people, how do you siphon blood from construct made out of stone?) But skipping past the blood/no blood argument: Hakkar is a God, and Moam a mere construct. In terms of raw power, it's clear Hakkar should have the upper hand in this fight, as our readers determined:

Though last week's match is over, this week's match has yet to begin! Look for the next edition of Two Bosses Enter later tonight!

One Boss Leaves: Sapphiron vs. Mandokir wrap-up

It's going to come as a surprise to very few of you (about 11% of you) that Sapphiron came out ahead of Bloodlord Mandokir in our most recent match of Two Bosses Enter. I suppose it's not unexpected, as Mandokir's greatest strength (his ability to grow in power as he kills people) would do him little good in a one-on-one match with Sapphiron. In this fight, Mandokir was little more than a powerful meleer, and eaten alive by Sapphiron's death-from-above approach. The exact results of the fight are as follows:

All I can say is ouch. It looks like the Bloodlord is heading back home to Zul'Gurub with a badly bruised ego -- though after eating a few raid groups (who no doubt don't take him seriously, because he's old-world content) I'm sure he'll be right back in the game. Our next match, between Ahn'Qiraj's Moam and Zul'Gurub's Hakkar (yes, after this one-sided fight, our brackets have been rearranged to, hopefully, make for more interesting battles in the future).

One Boss Leaves: C'Thun vs. Mother Shahraz wrap-up

Our last Two Bosses Enter deathmatch was simply a no-contest: C'Thun defeated Mother Shahraz with little difficulty, coming away the winner with a healthy 86% of the vote. This should come as no surprise to anyone who's had a chance to try the encounter for themselves, as C'Thun is a tricky customer and a standard boss would have little clue as to how to handle him.

With this competition complete and Mother Shahraz leaving our arena in disgrace, I'm happy to inform you that we've finished our first round of fights! From here on we'll be pitting contenders we've seen before against one another and getting ever closer to learning who the ultimate World of Warcraft boss may be. Check out our current brackets (though note that they may get shifted around) and come back later today to catch the next round of Two Bosses Enter!
