WoW Insider Show Episode 23: Mojo and other popular loot

This past weekend (before we knew the Pats couldn't go undefeated for a whole season-- that's what they get for beating my Rams in 2001), WoW Insider took to the airwaves of WoW Radio for the 23rd episode of our podcast, and the results are now live over on their site, and ready to assault your ears with a fine mix of insight and insanity. Turpster was out this week, but Duncor skillfully filled in alongside myself and WoW Insider's own Alex Ziebart. We talked for a minute about Groundhog Day, and then ducked into the email inbox (the address is theshow@wowinsider.com, if you've got something to tell us), and then we talked about the most popular posts of the past week:
And we also tried breaking out some new "loot-names" for easy bosses: Loot Reaver, and the Loot Below. One I liked from an email that didn't get mentioned on the show this week: "The Chest Event" in Karazhan. Funny. Check out the show for more, and don't forget to tune in next week as well: same loot time, same loot channel.

Get your Mojo workin'! [UPDATED]

Are you one of those folks who just absolutely can't live without the cute and cuddly non-combat pets? Well, this morning has turned up news of a surprising new non-combat pet, but we're not convinced that "cute" fits here. The pet is Mojo, the frog long claimed to be obtainable in Zul'Aman via the Amani Hex-sticks. While we're not entirely sure if it was intended or not, it would appear that Mojo is currently available by going to the small camp just outside and slightly to the south of Zul'Aman. I have tested this quest and was actually able to get Mojo on my level 70 Rogue as well as my level 27 Hunter, so one would think that it is likely attainable on most characters.

Of course, the down-side of this particular variant of Mojo is that he doesn't seem to be quite right. Well, that is to say, his texture map looks very low-res/unfinished compared to other frogs in game, and his in-game icon is a grey doll with a blue nimbus around him as opposed to being a frog. However, should you want a Mojo of your own, check out the how-to after the jump!

[UPDATED] - It would appear that this is no longer working and was, in fact, a bug that was hot-fixed today. Blizzard has not issued a statement as yet about whether or not the NPC-given Mojos will remain. If they do say one way or the other, we'll let you know.

RP Spotlight: Pets can be more than decoration

In WoW social situations, combat and non-combat pets alike usually just take up space looking pretty. Hunter and warlock pets have many actions they can perform to help fight an enemy, of course, and for a normal gamer there's no reason they would need to do anything more. But sometimes, as a roleplayer, if you pat your pet wolf on the head, you might expect it to look up at you with those adorable puppy eyes; or if someone else pats its head, you might expect it to bite their hand off. However, with the emote system as it is, we can only type out custom emotes with our own character's name at the beginning of the sentence, never the pet's.

There's a way around this problem, which is actually quite obvious once you think of it, yet roleplayers rarely use it, so far as I have seen. If you write the possessive apostrophe-S as the first part of your character's custom emote, you can make your pet seem to do something on its own: "Isabeau 's pet wolf growls and bares his teeth." It takes a little bit more typing, and it leaves a space between your characters name and the apostrophe-S (since that's built into the emote system), but effectively it lets you roleplay two entities at the same time. Hunters and warlocks can use the PetEmote addon to help make this a little more streamlined.

Our reader Ellyndia, for instance, roleplayed a very introverted character that normally would not introduce herself to others, but using such custom emotes, she could have her Jubling walk up and interact with people first to get conversations going. Pets can reflect what your character is thinking but not saying out loud (by hissing or purring perhaps), or they can do anything that such pets in real life might do. Special non-combat pets such as the Children's Week kids, the interactive Animatronics, or even the magical Mojo, could all be especially fun to animate a little now and then. Certainly this technique would become very annoying if overused, but in moderation it can add a extra spice of humor, entertainment and even a touch of realism into the game.

Around Azeroth: Be careful who you /kiss

Reader Shilarva submits this interesting screenshot featuring Mojo, the frog pet from Zul'Aman. If you /kiss Mojo, you'll find yourself briefly transformed into a frog. And if you /kiss Mojo while riding by on your flying mount... well, apparently you become a frog on a flying mount. (Who would have thought that a frog could stay mounted on a broom, anyway?)

Do you have any shots of odd events in World of Warcraft that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? Because we'd love to see your idea of the best looking instance on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wowinsider.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!

New noncombatty goodness

If you have been keeping up with the latest patch news (and who hasn't?), then I'm sure you've noticed that despite some grievances, everyone has something that they are greatly anticipating. If you happen to be a fan of pets of the non-combat variety, then 2.3 is turning out to be the patch for you!

Hot on the heels of the latest seasonal pets, the elusive Wolpertinger and the Sinister Squashling, those who obtain exalted status with Sporeggar will be able to purchase the Tiny Spore Bat for the reasonable fee of 30 glowcaps. While Elizabeth did mention the little tike briefly in a recent update on the patch notes, I wanted to give him his own spotlight. As if these two weren't enough, there's also Mojo, the adorable blue frog who is not afraid to show you some love.

If you collected the Tiny Crimson Whelpling, Dark Whelpling, and Tiny Emerald Whelpling, then you'll love the new Azure Whelpling! Based on the original whelpling models, this new pet has a bluer outlook on life. If you want to snag one for yourself, you'll have to hit up Azshara after the patch drops. Park yourself in amongst a group of level 51+ elite Blue Dragonspawns, and prepare to farm for the long haul, as there is no current data regarding this little guy's drop rate.

Whether you enjoy non-combat pets or not, one thing is for sure; Breanni is absolutely right. Azshara might actually get busy! In much the same way that Mr. Pinchy has helped to revitalize fishing, maybe this whelpling will add a little pizazz to the zone - or at least kick its tourism scene up a notch.

Will you be spotted in Azshara post-patch farming 'til you drop? If so, will he be your new pal, another notch in your belt, or a nice addition to your AH-for-mount fund?

Kiss a frog, get an epic Enchant scroll

Patch 2.3's Zul'Aman contains quite a few surprises. First, there was the bear mount from the first boss in the new 10-man raid zone. Now, there's voodoo frogs that hand out epic profession scrolls.

Early reports from the PTR claim that the frogs that hang out around the altar/forested area early in the instance are actually humanoids cursed by Forest Troll voodoo. Players can use Amani Hex Sticks looted from Zul'Aman trash mobs to transform the frogs back to people.

Those un-cursed people leave behind money, Amani Charms or sometimes transform into vendors. For sale on these NPCs is various items, possibly including stat food, a new non-combat pet, Mojo and/or a Sealed Scroll Case that contains a random profession recipe scroll. The scroll can even be for an epic recipe.

The new non-combat pet, Mojo, is a blue frog companion with a special talent. If you /kiss Mojo, he will turn you into a frog and whisper sweet nothings into your chat box. Which is why I've always been against PDA (public displays of affection.)

Finally, on your way out of the zone, all the transformed humans will cheer you on your way out. And then, presumably get hexxed back into frogs for the next round of adventurers.
