How many outfits do you have?

Alex recently talked about the lack of bag space for the hybrid class. This is quite true for them, as they have a hard time with the near infinite amount of bag space that is demanded of them. However looking at the non-hybrid classes, in particular a warrior, it can be seen that they too have their own issue of sorts. For an end game tank, it becomes less of an issue of actual bag space, and more of an issue of the limitless combinations of gear.

Most tanks swear by outfitter – a tool that allows you to quickly change around pre-saved outfits. For instance, say I'm going to be tanking the nature phase of Hydross. Before even setting foot in SSC, I would have spent an hour or so making sure I had all the necessary gear, stats, and configurations that Hydross requires. A good part of this time would be spent getting all those gearing changes into an easy to use outfitter profile – so I would just have to click one button to wear the gear.

Of course, that's resistant gear and it's expected that there'll have to be a bunch of switching of it. However, the gear switching doesn't end there.

Breakfast Topic: Favorite raid boss encounter

Hydross the UnstableI don't raid, but a co-worker of mine does. He talk enthusiastically about one of his favorite raid boss encounters in the expansion: Hydross the Unstable in Serpentshrine Cavern.

As he explained to me, the encounter is a particularly intricate dance of timing and coordination. From what I gathered, Hydross switches damage types, so the raid must have two main tanks with two different resist gear sets on. When Hydross switches, so must the tanks. Also, Hydross must be dragged about the cavern at timed intervals which also spawns adds.

I believe the high level of coordination among the raid was what made this boss a favorite of my co-workers. Now I put it to you, gentle readers: what is your favorite raid boss encounter and why?

Around Azeroth: Into Serpentshrine Cavern

Prise on Lightning's Blade (EU) sends in this amazing shot from the interior of Serpentshrine Cavern, right where Hydross the Unstable would be, if he were still alive when this screenshot were taken. Prise explains that the blue rays do figure-eights around the two columns -- and I'm thinking a still screenshot doesn't do the place justice.

Cash for kills

Money has been involved in WoW in a variety of ways since its inception. You pay to get the game, and you pay a subscription fee; some less scrupulous individuals, of course, pay for gold, powerleveling, and the like. But it doesn't stop there. A member of the guild Carpe Draconis (Aggramar-A) has started a cash bounty on Hydross the Unstable, the first boss in Serpentshrine Cavern. This is on a site I hadn't seen before called mob incentive, where site users can contribute money to causes they want to support. The reward is currently $52, and the money will be used to cover guild operation costs (Vent and guildportal hosting). Would you be more likely to work harder on a new boss if there was some money in it for your guild?

Latin diversion: the name of that guild doesn't make any sense to me. If they mean "seize the dragon," it ought to be "Carpe Draconem" (accusative case), whereas if they mean take from the dragon, I'd expect it to be "Carpe ab Dracone" or "Carpe ex Dracone" (using a preposition and the ablative case). Edit: Actually, "Carpe Dracone," using just the ablative and no preposition, is better (thanks, Beaverius and Appolon). The way they have it now, with "Draconis" (genitive case), would have to be translated as "Seize the Dragon's," except it's less grammatical in Latin than English, I think. However, I'm not surprised to see it this way; for whatever reason, "Carpe [Noun in the genitive]" is a very common pattern for guild names in WoW. I've seen at least three instances of "Carpe Noctis," whereas anyone with a copy of Wheelock's could tell you "Carpe Noctem" is correct. The latter does, at least, outnumber the former, but the very existence of the former is a mystery to me. In short:
