DC shows off what look like Series 4 Figures at ComicCon

Empire magazine is already posting pictures from this weekend's ComicCon out in San Diego (WoW Insider also has correspondents there on site), and though they have no idea what they've stumbled across, it sure looks to us like what might be DC Unlimited's Series 4 WoW figurines. And rather than just the standard player characters, Blizzard and DC are going a little NPC for this series -- as you can see above, they've included everyone's favorite elite gnoll, Hogger himself. Also included in the series are a Succubus of some sort (with what looks like a Tauren with a polearm in the back there), and a gun-wielding Tauren Hunter.

The figures all have signs that say "Worldwide Debut Friday 4pm" on them, so it looks like we're getting to see them a little early. And Blizzard is excited, too -- Slorkuz has even written a poetic ode to Hogger in honor of his likeness being immortalized.

We'll keep an eye out for more info -- looks like DC is expanding their action figure line to include a few more less traditional character types. Who else should they honor with a figure in the future?

Scopes: The optimal optical augmentation option

Or

"I seeee you!"

It is often said in the workshop here at Hoof & Horn that the Engineer's finest asset is that he can have a little of most classes, and a pinch of all professions. We can float like mages, dash like rogues. We can stun like tauren, we can snare like druids. We can augment one's fishing, or teach one blacksmithing or even alchemy plans. Of crucial importance to many, including many Engineers, is our ability to surpass the enchanters at what they do best: augmenting weapons. For what enchantment can be placed on a gun? None that we have found, and we're tired of buying enchanters drinks to try to get them to talk. [Broke, too! -PG] The Engineers alone can craft the deadly accurate scopes, the only way to augment a ranged weapon. Schemata for scopes can be found throughout the known worlds, and in the dungeons of each. Many can be trained or purchased, while the most powerful are held by the lords of the underworld, or the minions of Karazhan. Herein we will discuss scopes, and related devices.

Phat Loot Phriday: Galgann's Fireblaster

As you may have heard, I've been playing my old Hunter quite a bit lately, and she's got this baby still sitting in her bank. And while this is definitely not an endgame item, it still stands up as a great midgame ranged weapon (and one of the few good reasons to go into Uldaman).

Name: Galgann's Fireblaster (Wowhead, Thottbot, Wowdigger)
Type: Rare Gun
Damage/Speed: 56-106 / 2.60 (31.2 DPS)
Abilities:
  • Chance to strike your ranged target with a fire blast for 12-18 damage. This procs fairly often-- players have it at around 20% of the time. It's not a huge add, but at a point where most ranged weapons are just ranged weapons, it's pretty nice.
  • And this gun, to me, is what Warcraft firearms should be all about-- a huge musket with a little steampunk feeling, and lots of explosions. This could be my favorite standard, workhorse gun in the game.
How to Get It: Straight off of Galgann Firehammer himself. He's a dwarf in one of the digs of Uldaman, the instance everybody loves to hate. The good news is that he's right near the side entrance to the instance, so it's pretty easy to duck in (you'll have to have someone sneak in and open the door for you, or just clear to the side), kill him enough to get this gun (droprate is about 15-20%, and it seems to me to be even higher than that), and then get out, bypassing all those annoying troggs at the end of the instance.

And it's an excellent gun for the level once you get it, too-- unless you can find the old Boomstick lying around, this gun will easily last you for up to 10 levels, from the early forties till level 50.

Getting Rid of It: Sells to vendors for 1g 66s 81c, and disenchants into a Large Radiant Shard.

Phat Loot Phriday: Precisely Calibrated Boomstick

Last week we did a high end raiding item, so this week we only do a piece of husky loot, but it's still pretty impressive. Why? It's the fastest gun in Azeroth, east or west. This... is my boomstick!

Name: Precisely Calibrated Boomstick
Type: Epic Gun
Damage/Speed: 48-56 / 1.50 (34.7 DPS)
Abilities:
  • +14 Agility
  • Ok you primitive screwheads, listen up! As far as I can tell (and it seems like whenever I make a blanket statement like this, our commenters always prove me wrong), this is the fastest non-magical projectile (not thrown) ranged weapon in the game.
  • There's good news and bad news on that one. The good news is that for hunters, firing this fast will mean that any abilities that proc (Improved Aspect of the Hawk, Go for the Throat) will do it more often. You'll also get more crits, which is always nice, and some twink PvP hunters say this can actually keep casters from casting-- it hits so fast that their casting bar slows way down.
  • But unfortunately, speed isn't everything-- as fast as this gun is, lots of hunters would rather have a slower gun that does more damage per hit. Not to mention that all this firing spends your ammo like it's going out of style-- more bangs means more money for new ammo. For BM hunters who autoshot a lot, this gun is nice at the level, but for most other hunters, it's probably not worth the time unless it falls into your lap.
  • Rogues could also use it-- the agility in the ranged weapon slot is nice for the level. But anyone who takes it around 45 or so will probably be passing it up for something better within a few levels anyway. But that's how it is with lowbie weapons-- first you want to kiss them, then you want to kill them. Blow.
How to Get It: It's a world drop, which means it could drop from almost anywhere in the world. So either you'll just get really lucky and have it fall into your lap while leveling or grinding, or you'll have to pick it up from the AH-- like other world epics, it is Bind on Equip. It's gone for hundreds of gold in the past, but even though I haven't priced it lately, I wouldn't imagine it being near that high these days-- 200g at the absolute most, and probably under 100g on most servers. You could probably get it cheaper, but only if you shop smart-- S-mart.

Getting Rid of It: If you had it drop and don't need it, sell that sucker on the AH! Otherwise, a vendor will give you 2g 45s 40c for it, or it'll DE into a Large Radiant Shard. Hail to the king, baby. Gimme some sugar.

Phat Loot Phriday: Dragonbreath Hand Cannon

Every Friday, we take a nice long look at one of the drool-worthy items floating around the World of Warcraft. Last Friday, we looked at one of the best melee weapons in this game, so this Friday, we'll go HUNTER ITEM! and check out one of the sweetest (and best looking) ranged weapons you can find.

Name: Dragonbreath Hand Cannon
Type: Epic Gun
Damage, Speed: 86-160, 2.80 (43.9 DPS)
Abilities:
  • Probably the coolest looking weapon out there. It opens its mouth when it fires!
  • +14 Agility, +7 Stamina. Why no +Fire damage, Blizzard?
  • Yeah, OK, it's not the best ranged weapon in the game, especially if you want +crit% for PVP. But any hunter would love to have this thing, and the stats aren't bad for a tank's ranged slot either. Plus, just look at it! It's a freakin' dragon!
  • Any race/class that can use guns can use this, but don't forget, Dwarves get a +5 to Gun Skill.
How to Get It: No quests this week-- all you need is a raid group that can get you into Blackwing Lair and down Ebonroc about thirteen times (just over 8% drop rate, so if you're lucky it'll take less-- if not, it'll take more). Oh, and if you're in a guild, you'll probably need the DKP, especially because the tanks in your group are going to be drooling all over themselves to get their mitts on this. Just yell "Hunter item!"-- that justifies everything. (Can you tell I have a hunter main?)

Auction Price: Sorry folks, this one's BOP, too. A vendor will give you 10g, 65s, 74c for it, and as they walk away you'll hear them laughing loudly. At you. For selling them this weapon.
