The Achievements UI: a guided tour
Gallery: Stormwind construction

With the release of Patch 2.4.3 today, construction has commenced at the docks in Stormwind. It's located between Cathedral Square and The Park, at the end of the canals. If you talk to the workers in the area, they'll tell you that they are preparing to bust out the wall to create a new entrance to the city. There's lots of life bustling around the construction site, and here's your first tour.
WWI '08 Day 1 roundup
We had bloggers onsite for Day 1 at the Worldwide Invitational 2008 in Paris. Elizabeth Harper, Turpster, and Jennie Lees were all in France to provide in-depth coverage with liveblogging, pictures, and videos, and our entire staff was back here in the US to break out the analysis and coverage of the live streams. Here's a roundup of all the posts from Day 1.Liveblogging

Around Azeroth: The limits of solo content
Do you have any unusual World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see it on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wowinsider.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. We prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use alt-Z to remove it. And RIP, Tim Russert -- the election won't be quite as fun without you.
Around Azeroth: Worst date ever
Solanum of <Sovereignty Warcraft> on Frostwolf thought he had the perfect date idea; a night on a secluded boat, fishing under the starry sky, entertained by dancing trolls. However, his guildmate Lathiria clearly thought otherwise. Need more proof? Well, she had to pay for her half of the flight to Everlook. And when it was time to make the jump into Darkshore, Solanum found out that he'd forgotten his protection (aka light feathers.) Nothing spoils an evening like resurrecting your boyfriend. And then, finally, they're sitting in the romantic boat on the romantic lake, she's wearing an outfit that barely covers anything, and he's ... looking the other way and leveling up his fishing skill? But really, I'm sure Solanum and Lathiria had a wonderful time out. You can't help it that blood elf female look half-naked and constantly bored.

Around Azeroth: Indiana Jones and the Mask of Denial

NOTE ON WHAT HAPPENED HERE: Basically, I thought today was the 21st and scheduled this post as such. When I realized I was wrong, I somehow managed to click the wrong post and reschedule ... YESTERDAY's post for today. So that's why this morning's AA was yesterday's. It has been removed to its rightful home, and this has been brought forward in time to today. Sorry to all who thought they were going crazy, and a special apology to Nycterun, who had his thunder stolen (and moved through time repeatedly.)
If you've read a cursory account of the lore of racial origins -- or if you've been waging a massive war against night elves in Alterac Valley -- you know that many scholars believe that night elves and trolls evolved from a similar ancestor. And knowing night elves, I suspect that Nycterun of <Kiss of Death> on Arathor was not looking to underline the similarities when he "put on" a mojo mask decorating the outside of Zul'Farrak. Nevertheless, if the mask fits, you must equip. *rimshot* Nycterun certainly looks like he could have troll ancestors. A little more slouch, a little more radical of a hairstyle, and a lot more Visine and he could fit right in in Orgrimmar. What do you think?

Around Azeroth: Rubber ducky, you're the one
Oh yeah. This is just what I needed after a long day. A hot bath, a couple of candles, and you. Oh, rubber ducky, you're the only one who truly understands me. You're the only one who doesn't make fun of my massive, oversized arms, or call me a space squid, or mock my cousin who tried to take an exfoliating lava bath. If only we could be together! But alas, the anchorites frown on that sort of thing. Don't they understand that a manly man like me has to find something to relax with?
(Thanks to Vesuuvius of <Lights to Fight Monsters> on Anvilmar, who I'm sure is less of a pervert than the preceding paragraph made him out to be.)

Around Azeroth: A light in dark places
Finlome of Firetree appears to be trying a new method of killing Onyxia. Instead of bringing a raid of forty people, he's decided it would be best to bring himself and a torch. This may sound crazy, but hear me out -- Onyxia's Lair has over fifty dragons in a cave with no apparent ventilation. That thing's got to be FILLED with methane by now. Torch + methane gas + fire resist gear = free Tier 2 helm. It's brilliant! No, wait, it's the dumbest plan I've ever come up with. But it's still less painful than running that instance twenty weeks in a row waiting for Bloodfang.

Around Azeroth: Tastes like burning
I have yet to figure out if the Naaru have a version of the biblical lake of fire, but if they do, Jayhova (of unknown server) has found it. Of course, he claims that he was tricked into taking an "exfoliating bath" by some gnome pals, only to find that the sauna removed live skin cells as well as dead ones. But we all know that he's being punished for his blasphemous character name. I guess Blizzard is getting really strict on their appropriate naming policy ...

Around Azeroth: The demon cat of Sporeggar
Corrupting innocent kitty-cats? Will the Burning Legion stop at nothing? Actually, this is just a pic of the tauren druid Astaggrock from Eonar-EU taking a rest in Zangarmarsh. Astaggrock says he got the Glowing Blood debuff while killing giant fireflies and decided to wait for it to wear off before stealthing for his next attack. With the blackness, the horns and the electricity, he looks ready to pose for a heavy metal album cover. Assuming anyone actually bought music these days instead of just stealing it on BitTorrent.

WoW Insider webclip and galleries
Also, we are extremely proud to announce that we have some shiny new galleries here on the site -- our design team has implemented an awesome (and slick black) interface for browsing all of the pics we've ever posted so far, so if you've never browsed our patch 2.4, BlizzCon costumes, Around Azeroth or Tales from the Lion's Pride Inn galleries, now's the time to do so.
More design updates are still on the way here at WoW Insider -- stay tuned!
Even more pictures from the BlizzCon floor
Additionally, I'll be adding pictures to this gallery throughout day 2, so keep checking back to see what else there is to see in BlizzCon's main exhibition hall.
BlizzCon: Convention Center setup

There's nothing really groundbreaking here, unfortunately-- it looks like they're still setting up the banners (so I'll go over and check again later today), and I couldn't get close enough to get a really good look inside the Exhibit Hall. But they're definitely close to being done-- while there's lots of carts and equipment around, not much is coming in or going out. I did see a pallet of boxes, but I couldn't get close enough to read what it said on them. Here's an original size version of that one if you guys want to try to decipher what might be in there.
Unfortunately, no "Wrath of the Lich King" banners yet, but I'll keep my eyes open and bring you more when I find it.
Update: Added some more banners, because when I stopped by this afternoon, they were done putting them up.
WoW TCG: At the Darkmoon Faire Chicago

I also saw lots of people playing the game-- there were beginner and advance tournaments running all weekend-- as well as a special section Blizzard had set up with Upper Deck to allow visitors to play on a special LAN server, where they ran scavenger hunts and PvP events ingame. Tons of people brought tons of cards, and everyone got to throw down and try to outlast their opponent's heroes more than once over the weekend. A gallery of pictures from the Faire is below-- thanks to Upper Deck for putting on the event in Schaumberg, and we can't wait to see you guys again at Blizzcon.
The hidden secrets of Outland

Inspired by this forum thread about hidden and mysterious places in Outland, I took to the skies on my windrider to check out some less-traveled places in the expansion. From the empty Horde village above Shattrath, to Challe's Home for Little Tykes, all the way to Skettis, the hidden capital of the Arrakoa, I went on a tour of some of Outland's secrets.
Check out the gallery below to see all the places I found. And while I spent a night touring around, Blizzard spent months making this place. If you've found cool stuff that I didn't include in the Gallery, feel free to drop it in the comments below.
