WoW Moviewatch: Acolyte 1.5

What is it about Darrowshire and stunning machinima? This is the second video in about a month to come of the Eastern Plaguelands quest line. Last month, we featured the work of Cranius and his musical talents. Now we're pleased to feature a star-studded film by Firebolt Productions, Acolyte 1.5. You may recognize them from their second place win in the Warcraftmovies Christmas Spirit Contest, Ugly Goblin's Christmas.

Acolyte 1.5 is not without faults, as it feels like half of the video has ads for websites. However, what we are finally presented with is an engaging storyline full of action and excitement. Don't miss the voice acting by Clint Hackleman, Drewbie, and Olibith, as well as the musical composition by Nathan Allen Pinard!

WoW Moviewatch: Kake Buk Island, Episode 1

Baron Soosdon has been threatening to make a plotline machinima for quite some time, so it's good to see that he followed through with it! Kake Buk Island: Episode 1 - "You Damn Beach" is about an orc, Thok, that wakes up on a strange island. While exploring the island, he befriends two girls, Noki and Jiki, that need his help rescuing their pig from the sinister gnome, Sergei Gnum. All is not as it seems on Kake Buk Island, but I guess we'll have to wait for Episode 2 to find out!

KBI: YDB has an incredible line-up of special guests, including Drewbie, Olibith, and Baron himself, but I'm not sure what was up with some of the dialogue. Nevertheless, the cross-blend of World of Warcraft and Unreal Tournament 2004 made for a surreal set for Baron to weave his magic. As always, if you enjoyed the machinima, download the high quality version!

WoW Moviewatch: Inside World of Warcraft, Episode 2

(Update: Apparently Oblivious Films stopped doing them after the first episode and this was an in-house Machinima.com blunder. I stand by my criticism. Why hire Baron Soosdon, who didn't make this video, if they're not going to utilize him?)

Those Oblivious Films boys are nothing but trouble. They get one episode of Inside World of Warcraft under their belt and Drewbie is running around with trannies, while Macheath is down and out on Skid Row. What will we do with them?

While I do adore Drewbie and the comedy stylings of his partner, IWoW2 had some things that drove me up the wall. The aspect ratio seemed to jump, the bird noises were annoying, and a lot of the jokes felt forced. I'm not sure how frequently these were intended to be released, but the first episode came out three months ago. If they're only doing news reports quarterly, you'd think they'd have more to discuss and less to make toilet humor about ... What's going on, Machinima.com?

WoW Moviewatch: Kake Buk Island Teaser

Now that Baron Soosdon has landed a comfy job as Community Manager at Machinima.com, he has time to make lots of movies -- or trailers, at least! His next project is a cross-game video, Kake Buk Island, using World of Warcraft and Unreal Tournament 2004. There is an extensive list of guest voice actors tied to the project, including Drewbie (Insert cameo joke here!), Olibith, Tuesday Smith, and Vilaeryn. Since this movie seems to have a plot, yet he doesn't describe it to us, let's make one up for him!

[Thanks, Baron!]

WoW Moviewatch: How 2 Machinima, Episode 1

Ian Beckman, the creator of Azerothian Super Villians, and Drewbie "I've never met a cameo I didn't like", have teamed up to help WoW machinimators everywhere. How 2 Machinima is a new series that will explain the art of machinima in-depth. Episode 1 focuses on WoW Model Viewer, WoW Map Viewer, recording programs, chroma keying (greenscreening), and how to put your footage together to make the scene. I look forward to the second tutorial!

[Thanks, Ian!]

WoW Moviewatch: Mr. Fancy Pants

It's been three months since Spiffworld made his last Jonathan Coulton machinima, Chiron Beta Prime. However, the last time I blogged about him was the V-Day Riot of '08, and I'm still in therapy. This time around, the worst you'll see is a second of human buttocks, and it's in context with the story ... about pants. It'll be over before you know it!

If there were a machinima about my life, it might be Mr. Fancy Pants. There's shopping, dancing, and ... pantsing? Wait. Scratch that. I don't want another riot on my hands. Just join me in the Fancy Pants Parade!

[Thanks, Drewbie!]

WoW Moviewatch: Snacky 4 Teaser

Snacky's Journal, the award-winning series by Stone Falcon Productions, may be coming to a close soon. Jun Falkenstein, the creator of the series, has taken on a job directing a sci-fi film. However, she released this teaser for Snacky 4 yesterday.

It looks like Episode 4 may bring Snacky a girlfriend! This preview is short and sweet, but shows much promise, as Snacky and a lady friend are checking out Mechanistriders. How do you think the series will end?

[Thanks, Drewbie!]

WoW Moviewatch: Azerothian Super Villains 5 commentary

Ian Beckman (whom we interviewed a while back) recently released a DVD-style commentary video about his latest machinima, Azerothian Super Villains, Episode 5. In the video, Ian, and guest star Michael DeCamp, discuss the making of ASV5, as well as reveal some surprising facts about the film. At almost 11 minutes, it's quite informative.

For example, they point out the guest appearance by Drewbie, the disastrous Blackbird contest, and many of the special references that they made about real life events. They even briefly mention how they filmed scenes in the movie! Most of the content will spoil the film for you, so if you haven't seen it yet, I suggest watching Episode 5 first.

WoW Moviewatch: Too much of a good thing

A long time ago in a land far, far away, the boys of Oblivious Films decided that they wanted to make epic machinimas. However, Macheath had to learn Adobe Premiere Pro first. What follows is a video, Oblivious Hardcore, made about two years ago, before The Grind, their award-winning series, was created.

Drewbie, of Oblivious Films, was kind enough to let me use this as an example of what not to do in a machinima. As a lesson for himself, Macheath managed to fit a mishmash of filters, transitions, text, and effects into just over two minutes of video, proving that you can have too much of a good thing. Machinima isn't an all you can eat buffet. Choose your main course, be it filters or effects, wisely and let the sides, like text and transitions, enhance your meal!

WoW Moviewatch: Inside World of Warcraft, Episode 1

In the course of my daily machinima search, I learn new things all the time. For example, I now know that I need a rainbow unicorn in my life, or the fact that Martin Falch can see into my SOUL! It's a good thing that I wore my tinfoil hat today, or things could have been messy.

Inside World of Warcraft is a machinima series produced by Oblivious Films in collaboration with machinima.com. Apparently they're going around WoW searching high and low for the latest issues, gripes, and machinima. Their inaugural episode features some epic forum complaints about each class, and a speedy review of Tales of the Past 3.

If you're into Drewbie, unicorns, MacHeath, unicorns, Oblivious Films, machinima, and unicorns, then you'll enjoy this video. I can't wait to see where Episode 2 leads them!

WoW Moviewatch: Chronicle of the Annoying Quest, Episode 20

Bakasavant Productions has finished another episode of Chronicle of the Annoying Quest! The good guys are getting further in their quest, but experience some setbacks, including a cavity search. The bad guys are also hindered by their female companion's vanity. In the end, a meeting takes place between the elders and the recruits, where they are tasked with stopping Juran.

This series is far from flashy, but I find it enjoyable. While they may not use many special effects, and the voice acting could definitely use work, they consistently produce solid episodes. Look out for a cameo by Drewbie, of The Grind series, at 4:25! If you liked Episode 20, check out the high quality version.
