Reigniting the flame and rediscovering the joy of Warcraft

I think my favorite part about a new patch is that it always seems to inject new life into WoW. Don't get me wrong, I love WoW all the time. I think it's a great game. But there's something about a new patch that always seems to invigorate me. There's new stuff to do, maybe a new twist or two to one of the classes I play, or at least to one of the classes I play against. What's even more interesting to me is that it sometimes makes even the old stuff feel brand new.

Around Azeroth: Through the looking glass

Blade's Edge Mountains always looks vaguely spikey and unpleasant, but this picture looks like Google's street view image of purgatory. Pointeal of Nanosophobia on Illidan took this pic of Bash'ir Landing while tripping on the Bash'ir Phasing Device, used for the 2.4 daily Intercepting the Mana Cells. Hmm, this pic almost looks like the warlock Tier 6 shoulders. Coincidence?

Do you have any unusual World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see it on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wowinsider.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!

Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. We prefer full screen shots without the UI showing. And please, no more sunsets. They make the computer monitors unpleasantly toasty.

Phase 2 Dailies: Intercepting the Mana Cells

This Daily is located back in Shattrath, and given by a Draenei called Exarch Nasuun. He will be located in A'dal's chambers, in the northwestern Alcove where G'eras, the Badge of Justice vendor, used to be (G'eras himself is now on the walkway above the Alcove). He'll send you to the Bash'ir Landing, on the northern plateau of Blade's Edge Mountains. This means that this daily will require you to have a flying mount. Once you receive the the quest, you can fly to Evergrove in Ruann Weald via flightmaster, then fly northwest from there on your mount to reach Bash'ir landing.

Once you're there, you'll want to kill any of the Ethereals until you receive the Bash'ir Phasing Device. The device is a very common drop, so you shouldn't have to kill more than one or two ethereals until you get one. This Device will put you, your pets, and your group members into a state not unlike the Mage spell Invisibility. You will not be able to see any non-phased players or mobs, nor will they be able to see you. This device, however, only works with Bash'ir landing, and any pets or groups members must stay within 100 yards of the person who used the device to get the benefit. As long as you stay within Bash'ir landing, the effect is permanent, although you can right-click it off.

Once you're phased, you will need to start looking for your quest objective, the Smuggled Mana Cells, which will appear on the ground as translucent hot pink boxes. The boxes will appear mostly near the machinery and other stacked boxes around the camp. They will be guarded by Phase Wyrms, which should be relatively easy for a level 70 take out, and drop Motes of Mana for a nice little bonus.

Once you have your 10 cells, you can drop the phased buff (Be careful for any ethereal aggro when you do. You can't see them while phased, but they'll be there when you come out of phased mode), mount up, and head back to Shattrath. Upon turning this quest in to Nasuun, you'll get 10 gold, 10 silver, a cache of Shattered Sun Supplies, and some credit toward the opening of a portal to Quel'danas on your server. All in all a very worthwhile quest, especially if your cache has a Badge of Justice.

Once the portal is opened, this quest will be renamed "Maintaining the Sunwell Portal," but the objectives and rewards will remain the same. For more information, you can also read the pages for this quest on Wowwiki and Wowhead.

The lore flops of the Burning Crusade

The Burning Crusade has a lot going on in it. In the very first zone you run into the Burning Legion, the Ilidari, the Fel Orcs, the Broken, the Forge Camps, the Mag'har, the Arakkoa, and so much more. This is a pleasant change from so many Azerothian zones seeming very static, fighting the same type of thing from one end of the zone to the other.

I found many of these stories to be very fun and interesting, but some of them just fell flat. For one, the Arakkoa. When the Arakkoa story began with Kirrik the Awakened and Rilak the Redeemed, I was rather excited. This race was pretty cool! The Arakkoa would be the most beast-like of the known Light-worshiping races and a recent addition to the Naaru's 'Army of the Light.' The models for the redeemed Arakkoa were cool, too. A bunch of pretty birds following them around? Neat!

Around Azeroth: Bash'ir Landing gate

Seppy of the Neptulon Server finished a new daily on the PTR which gave him a buff that affected his vision. He headed to Bash'ir Landing in Blade's Edge Mountains and got a different perspective on the warp gates there. I don't know about you, but I'd love it if the whole game looked like this.

Do you have any unusual World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? Because we'd love to see it on Around Azeroth!

No, really. Ok, only if it's a sunrise in new Patch 2.4 lands. We'll take those anytime. Oh, and no more shots of Omen killed in Ogrimmar. It's cool, we get it. A lot of it.

Your Guide to Dailies: Unlocking Blade's Edge

Once you are familiar with the daily quests offered in Skettis, you will begin searching for more dailies. After all, you can complete up to 10 of them per day. By completing only two or three, you are bypassing a large amount of guaranteed gold. Unlocking these quests will also increase your grind toward a nether ray flying mount.

The next step then is to set your sights on Ogri'la and the Skyguard Outpost in Blade's Edge Mountains (see map above). Unfortunately, you won't be able to fly up there, do a little dance, and expect them to hand you out the quests. In fact, you might as well buckle in, because the upcoming chain is long and involved. Fear not; by following this guide, and consulting the map, you should be welcomed by Ogri'la in no time.

It all begins with a naaru residing in the Terrace of Light, a long way from the mountainous regions inhabited by ogres.

Around Azeroth: Big red flying machine!

For today's Around Azeroth, we're treated to a spectacular view of Blade's Edge Mountains and the Big Red Flying Machine! As Tuscansalami from Whisperwind tells us:

In the spirit of BRK, I give you the next best thing -- the Big Red Flying Machine! And no, that's not Bestial Wrath - it's one of the side-effects from the Ultrasafe Transporter: Toshley's Station in which you get the cosmetic debuff Soul Split: Evil!, making you big, red and transparent -- kind of like a shadow priest, but more mean looking. So whilst jaunting through Blade's Edge Mountains on the way to Orgrila, I managed to find a nice background vista to show off the very infrequently seen effects. Additionally, the sparks are from my season 2
arena shoulders and I suspect that the electrical interference from them is why my the motor keeps on cutting out and spluttering when hovering in place all the time... :)

Big Red Flying Machine? We're sensing an engineering tips & tricks blog. Let us know when that's up; we're there! In the meantime, if you have any fabulous screenshots from your daily adventures in Azeroth, send them to us at aroundazeroth@wowinsider.com. Your screenshot could be featured in an upcoming Around Azeroth!

Around Azeroth: He's no William Troll...

Reader Kiesh of Lothar sends us this charming scene from Thunderlord Stronghold in the Blade's Edge Mountains. I'll let Kiesh explain the shot for us:

I'm not going to suggest that Orcs take cleaning tips from the Forsaken, or even the Dwarves, but the gruesome aftermath of this particular stunt leads me to believe that their focus on blood and honor might, occasionally, need to be tempered by the occasional burial of the dead... at least drag the poor guy outside!

Around Azeroth: Blade's Edge skyscape

Dedsxy of Drak'thul sends us this shot taken while flying over some of the highest peaks in Blade's Edge Mountains. That perpetual burning sky -- on the verge of an angry sunrise at all times of day -- combined with those unfriendly spikes don't make for a warm welcome to potential tourists. But the Ogres can be very friendly once you get to know them!
