WoW Insider Show Episode 37: Happy Mother's Day {WOW Insider}

May 13th 2008 2:27PM Indeed, might wanna listen to the live show if you want the music breaks. The Savage commercial is only played once per show, and you would too if that's where you got your revenue from :)

As much as we'd love to leave the music in the shows, we don't particularly like being sued for copyright infringement and our rights only extend to playing music during live streams.

I'm infinitely better.

May 12th 2008 12:07PM Oh look, yet another prime example of why talentless hacks should stay the hell away from model-viewer, microphones and the internet. This doesn't require any further explanation.

WoW Moviewatch: Kake Buk Island, Episode 1 {WOW Insider}

May 10th 2008 2:51PM Visually stunning, as is par the course for Soosdon machinima. I'm going to dissent and say that I enjoyed the actual storyline and unanswered questions. But then, I'm a huge fan of series like Lost which have an abnormal setting, plenty of questions and no actual answers. If played right, the series could end up being quite gripping in that respect. I'm going to address most of this critique directly to the Baron himself, because I know he will accept constructive criticism, so here goes.

I would suggest outsourcing the script-writing. Soos, your talent is in editing and the creation of fantastic and outlandishly beautiful worlds. Stick to it, and bring a scriptwriter onto your team. Let someone else come up with snappy dialogue and jokes that are actually funny, while you concentrate on what you're good at. Do you see a film director writing the script, doing voice-acting and penning the story? Generally not, no, they stick to what they're good at, and work with the rest of the crew as a team to produce a good movie. This isn't something that's particularly common with machinima in it's current form and it shows, because otherwise great movies display fatal weaknesses, often in the areas of the script and voice-acting. This would be an ideal opportunity to take some pointers from classic film-making technique and building a crew with their own individual skills, to create some truly next-generation machinima. The series has the potential to really take off, if it has the right kind of people behind it.

On that subject, the voice-acting had some issues. The male characters were not terrible, and I understand the reason why you want 'big names'. However, aside from Drewbie, none of those big names can actually voice-act, at all, including you. The female characters were particularly bad, the dialogue undeniably forced, and there were weaknesses and disparities in the equipment used to record the voices which were readily obvious to me. Maybe I'm just being picky in that regard considering what I do, but I spotted it immediately, perhaps others did too.

For something that should have turned out as a hodge-podge of randomness though, this movie is surprisingly coherent. It did a great job of establishing the characters of the series and laying out the initial questions about the strange environment in which the movie is set. That's it's strong point, and it needs to continue along those lines. However, this series needs good solid voice-acting and a clever script. It does not currently have those things. Find people who can provide them, and you'll have a winner on your hands.

I welcome our 10 and 25 man raid instance overlords {WOW Insider}

May 9th 2008 6:00PM This strikes me as little more than design laziness. 'Hey guys, we can double the content, with very little effort what-so-ever!'.

I predict the next expansion will simply have one instance, with 10 different level modes, all with normal and heroic mob and loot tables, and 10/25 man modes at Level 90.

May 9th 2008 5:56PM How about I critique your lowsy excuse for a critique aye?

Your entire comment was littered with misinformation, assertions and broad, sweeping generalizations with no actual basis in fact. Such idiocy as 'if this is the epitome of what he likes' shows an inability to read the original article, since there is absolutely no mention of this video even being one of my favorites, let alone the 'epitome' of what I like, and says precisely nothing about my 'other comments'. What exactly does it say? I propose that all you have to offer in this case are vague pseudo-intellectualisms and ridiculous remarks. None of what you just said has any substance to it what-so-ever.

There was no downplaying of my choice. Videos are to be judged objectively. Great voice-acting is in fact, counter-productive when producing a video like this. It would have detracted from the video, not augmented it. The characters are supposed to be talking on Ventrilo, not espousing flowing prose or shitting Shakespeare. It IS a gameplay video, that's the majority of the video, it's labeled as a PvP video with storyline elements and therefore must be judged as one. To do otherwise is bad form, pure and simple, which is the reason you suck at this and I don't, you can't even properly criticize what I've written, let alone what's in the movie.

You guess this will prove to everyone...? Well at least there's one element of truth to your sad excuse for a comment, 'guess'. Your entire argument is based on nothing more than guessing, and in places, fabricating facts to suit your pathetic drivel. What will this prove to everyone? I'm a self-confessed arrogant son of a bitch, and I'm a hell of a lot better at it than you are.

May 9th 2008 5:46PM Haha, it speaks volumes that all you can manage to come up with as a counter-argument is some lame, self-righteous ad-hominem. And you wonder why you don't have Moo's ear if this is the kind of tripe you come up with.
