My only question would haev to be, is there a program out there I can dopwnload that lets me play around with designing those patterns? I'd love to make a bear claw one.

I use Photoshop, however, I've seen a program called GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/) that's supposed to be a free replacement for PS. You could download that and give it a try. The grid I use comes from Grid Maker (http://www.pivari.com/grid-maker.html). I used 20x20 for the dimensions, 20 for the cell size, and 3 for the line width. You'll need to printscreen (or snag-it) the grid and bring it into your image editing software. :)
