BlizzCon makes the must-see list
Videogame Price Charts (who?) has compiled a list of seven videogame conventions to attend before you die. Unfortunately, the list seems unattainable by design, as they want you to attend E3 before 2007, but besides last week's Leipzig Games Convention and this weekend's upcoming PAX, Blizzard's own BlizzCon is right there on the list. We're not sure why you'd want to go to BlizzCon if you didn't happen to be a fan of Blizzard's games, but then again, who isn't a fan? They list the legendary costume contest and the chance to try out PC games as reasons to go (along with meeting your guild -- I did all three at BlizzCon last year), though they forget all of the great Blizzard panels and the entertainment offered at each 'Con (where else can you see Level 70 ETC, besides, you know, in-game).
Especially since it's going to be bigger than ever this year, there's no question that BlizzCon is going to be awesome. And even if you weren't able to grab a ticket (we're hearing just now that lottery winners are being notified), we'll have everything you need to know and see from Anaheim this October right here on WoW Insider.

Are there even more than 7 video game conventions in existence?
Probably, but my point is that they are not really a common thing.

I was thinking the same thing. I read the first line and thought: Um...Are conventions so numerous that we need a list of the top 7? Then I read the blog and it's exactly what I thought. Ok, 2 I never heard of, one for pinball games, another for classic games, The rest are the generic ones we wait for. I think it would be more remarkable if it DIDN'T make it on the list.

...When I was younger, going to an E3 was one of my dreams, the kind of things you want to do someday.
I told myself "when you are 18, find a way to get there!".
Its so sad that now its simply imposible to go that E3 anymore.

Why? The only point going to the old E3 was to ogle booth babes up close or maybe get into one of the closed screenings (but that was hard if you weren't real press). Everyone complains about the banning of booth babes at the new E3, but in my opinion that was the best thing. How can you expect people not to treat video games with contempt, when an industry expo has more scantily clad young ladies than Amsterdam's red light district?

Eh... some of these aren't even real cons. E3 and to some extent Tokyo Game Show don't really quality. E3 mostly because it's a press event more than a con and that further proves the point as they adopted the a new (and totally lame) format. Cons are for the people and to some extent the companies that host it. These two kinda don't quality because they are ALL about the companies and they pack the place with as much press as possible in others a huge glorified press conference. DOH.
Also the fact they didn't ComicCon iS FAIL.

I forgot this is game conventions only. Though... how the fuck does PAX count. I thought Penny Arcade was a webcomic.

I love WoW Insider, the posts make my day at work infinitely better giving me a few chances to keep better things on my mind...but posts like these disappoint. It doesn't present the readers with any new, or even interesting information. I think every fan of the game or company knows that Blizzcon is awesome, so why waste time posting that some other site (one you've never even heard of) thinks its the coolest thing ever. Every time another web site farts and it smells even remotely like Blizzard, WI dives in nose first, cups a bit, then wafts it at us.

christ, this was just another poor excuse for schramm to post his picture of him and his mom in their costumes.

Truth is kid, you're still reading this blog and giving it the hits it needs to keep going.

I went last year, and I found it really weird. No one talked to each other, and it felt really daunting. None of the panels were interactive, just talking heads on monitors. I loved cosplaying there (though I see I'm not in the wowinsider gallery) but the amount of time I spent on the costume didn't really feel like it paid off. The best part was palling around with some guildies at Disney the next day.

If you want more cosplay recognition, you are better off on an anime con or a 'general' con like Dragoncon, experience has shown me.
