Wrath beta patch introduces Jewelcrafting quests and rewards
The most recent Wrath beta push began adding the profession specific quests discussed in the latest Blizzcast. A number of Jewelcrafting daily quests were implemented, as well as the accompanying tokens and recipes. The rewards are a very nice spread of rare cuts, ranging from five to eight Dalaran Jewelcrafter's Tokens each. Doing the daily quest each and every day, you'll be averaging one new cut per week, which isn't too shabby. Both regular cuts and metagem cuts are available for purchase.
With the way it has been implemented, it seems you'll want to coordinate with other Jewelcrafters in your guild, or simply other Jewelcrafters you know, to pick and choose which your guild will need first, Once that's done you can work towards completion. Not bad, I think, and it should be a fun dynamic. Better than random world drops, for sure. Still, we'll need to see it in action for awhile before we can make a real decision about it either way. So far, I like it and I'm curious to see how it will be handled for other professions.
If you're interested in the cuts available, we've added them to our Wrath Jewelcraftng gallery, which you can see below. As always, click the Hi Res button to see them a little larger.

Eh, nothing that really makes me want to stay as a JC. When I was leveling up, it was nice because I had a source of easy-to-get rings, necklaces, and trinkets, and those statues early on were a welcome item in soloing. Now, to me, its devolved into just cutting gems, with little else to change the mix, and its rather discouraging to me that all they have added so far is only gems, no rings, no trinkets, no necklaces, just a bunch of bloody gems.

What more do you want? It's the most profitible proffession in the game by far and if you're replacing your gear you'll be getting tons of use out of it. Seriously, Jewel Crafting is over powered compared to the rest of the proffessions. You can just buy ore and sell the gems you get from it and make a profit. It's insane! My Shaman was able to support my Warlock main once he hit outland by prospecting and selling gems. It's ridiculous.

Yea, I really don't care to see every single gem cut in the game. I already know what they are, even if I don't know the exact values.
What I want to see is the fun stuff. Trinkets, rings, necks, and anything else they'd like to add. I really hope they bring the statues back into the game, since they never released the Primal Stone Statue pattern. Why not let JCers have their little HoT statue? They've given Herbalists their own HoT.
And, I want to see more JC-crafted fist weapons, dammit! That was one of the reasons why I learned the profession: there were supposed to be fist patterns in the game, but there's only one, and it's a lvl. 29 item.

Hmm, it'd be nice if some of the other professions were given as many ways to make money as jewelcrafting has. Guess I'd better level me a JC...

Eh it has cost me more money than I've made with it to level JC up, and I cant make much money because I dont have alot of the patterns, specially the ones going for 3-400g on the AH.
I figured it be a great way to make money, till I hit 70 and saw the stuff... :(

See - that's only your fault. I knew a JC who could make thousands of gold a week by just buying gems off of the AH and reselling them. If you buy the recipes, you can easily make profits. Just buy the uncut gems, cut them, and then sell them for a profit. It's not hard at all.

Yeah, essentially they'll stack to the maximum amount of items, so no stacking 20 or something, you can just stack em forever, the reason for the number is it's an integer value, and from what I can tell, most things are based around it (longs, doubles and the such take up more memory, and ints cover the largest someone would need, yet take up a small amount of memory

Just think, it will only take 5883517 years of doing the daily quest every day to reach the cap : (

I know the reason why they chose the number, but at that point they shouldn't have made them unique.

I hate it. It will take 1,5 years of doing dailies every day to get all the recipes. Who could ever think that is a good mechanic? The basics is nice, just so not all JCs have all reciped at once and you can make a bit more money, but you should be able to get all recipes in a reasonable amount of time, and this is not reasonable.

I've got one each of each professions, and it's JC that I find less interesting:
- very underwhelming BOP items at high level. ONE epik gem does not make any difference at all.Compare that to tailor-, blacksmith-, engineer-specific items...
- not really a good moneymaker. Uncut gems sell for barely less than cut ones, or I could ask a number of guildies to cut gems for me or for resale. Again, compare that to engineers, enchanters...
- very high levelling costs
- very high designs costs
The one thing it offers is nice levelling items... As if anyone cared about levelling anymore.
If I did not have all other professions already, I woudl have dropped it, and even so, I'm thinking about it.

here here, I'm done thinking, I'm dropping JC for engineering, at least they get to have fun with what they make... :(

Engineering's a money maker? Since when?

I never said its a moneymaker (besides the mote extractors and few other things), but its something that is actually rewarding to do. I havent made crap thanks to JC, and I could care less how much gold I have. Since I hit 60, JC has been a grind to level that I dont want to repeat twice.

engineering makes money with the mote extractor. My engineering palaladin get 2.5 primal air in one 10-15 minute round of Nagrand. 30-40 gold each on my server.

A pattern every 5 days of dailies (if there's only one JC daily) will take a long time to fill out the complete roster, but it'll only take a month or two to get the cuts you're really looking for.
Its not like you're really looking forward to paying 800g for a +8 spirit or +8 parry receipe, are you?
