Around Azeroth: Clash of the product placements
Tony sent us this image straight from the Wrath of the Lich King beta -- and we'd love to have your beta screenshots, too! If you have anything our readers might like, beta or not, sharing it is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wowinsider.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. We prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use alt-Z to remove it. And, please, no more sunsets! Unless it's a sunset over Arthas's grave.

Thx to the barber shop the first day of LK every NElf will be a Night Elf Mohawk, and BElf males will finally get their precious scrunchy.

Also: Dude, Chinamen is not the preferred nomenclature. Asian-American, please.

Er, are they really Asian-American if they actually live in China?
Hypercorrection FTL. "Chinamen" still isn't the best term; I think it's "Chinese" these days.

Badger, Farstrider: FAIL
They're not 'Asian-American' if they've never set foot in the US. If fhey're from China, they're...say it with me....*Chinese*.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Farstrider, Kithelas, and Chris Anthony didn't get it. Badger wins. It's a reference to The Big Lebowski, for you slow people.

Yep. It's from "The Big Lebowski." I'm not a total retard. ^_^

The Dude: "Walter, what is the point? Look, we all know who is at fault here, what the fuck are you talking about?"
Walter Sobchak: "Huh? No, what the fuck are you... I'm not... We're talking about unchecked aggression here, dude."
Donny: "What the fuck is he talking about?"
The Dude: "My rug."
Walter Sobchak: "Forget it, Donny, you're out of your element!"
The Dude: "Walter, the chinaman who peed on my rug, I can't go give him a bill, so what the fuck are you talking about?"
Walter Sobchak: "What the fuck are you talking about? The chinaman is not the issue here, Dude. I'm talking about drawing a line in the sand, Dude. Across this line, you DO NOT... Also, Dude, chinaman is not the preferred nomenclature. Asian-American, please."
The Dude: "Walter, this isn't a guy who built the railroads here. This is a guy..."
Walter Sobchak: "What the fuck are you...?"
The Dude: "Walter, he peed on my rug!"
Donny: "He peed on the Dude's rug."
Walter Sobchak: "Donny you're out of your element! Dude, the Chinaman is not the issue here!"

Still, a Big Mac is a Big Mac. Just, ya know, on the EU servers, they call it "Le Big Mac."

unless the WoW icon on your desktop is just really REALLY good product placement, the NE-Mohawk was actually a WoW commercial. Its like saying WoW Insider logo at the top of the page is great product placement.

Elizabeth, your articles are usually the shining gems of wowinsider, but I just don't get this one... Are there any real examples of product placement in WoW as is (or Beta) that you could reference? Since the Nelf Mohawk is from a WoW commerical it does not count as product placement, and I just don't see the connection between a red vehicle in Wintergrasp and a Toyota Tacoma.

shes clueless most of the time. its amazing that somone that knows so little about wow helps run a wow website. its almost like shes still a wow rookie after all these years the way she talks about stuff that has been know for a while. danny whitcomb is the one blogger here that has progressed in his knowledge of the game and continues to provide actual content and not just copy and paste from real news sites in every single post he makes. schramm and wychoskilinsky or whatever are just amazingly nieve for some reason. its their site, and combined they seem to not really know a whole lot and are always getting pwned in their posts that they are posting things we have all seen sometimes a year earlier. especially schram. danny needs to get away from these guys, they need him more than he needs them.

I'm with you on this... I had to re-read this article more than once and I was still like, "WTF are you talking about?"
I don't get the reference to a Toyota Tacoma AT ALL. It's barely a red truck looking thing, more like a big dragster with warm, reddish colors.
Is this a reference to that weird car commercial with the WoW looking interface? Because that wasn't an actual WoW commercial and I thought it wasn't even actually WoW, just made to look like it.
And that commercial is pretty old now... I literally don't think I've seen it once in 2008.
Anyway, if this was a joke, I guess it's one of those, "Too obscure for anyone to get" sort of things. Or it's just not particularly funny. Sorry. :\
