Though this is the merest shred of a rumor, it's a nice enough idea that I think it's worth a post anyway.
DeathKnight.info is passing on the speculation that maybe, just maybe,
this weekend's announcement (or one of them) is going to be that the
Death Knight class will be playable before
Wrath of the Lich King's release, to those who pre-order
Wrath. It sounds a bit silly, given that the Death Knight is one of the banner features of
Wrath, but there are a few points riding in its favor:
- You only need a level 55 to create a DK.
- It would assuage concerns of everybody and their dog rolling a DK on the day of the Wrath release, since if the class was released (say) next month, or even in a few months, many of us would have time to get a DK to 70 before Wrath's release, to see whether we liked the class and so forth.
- It would give those of us who have exhausted the current content something to do for the next few months.
- The eyes revealed in today's teaser image could easily be sinister Death Knight eyes.
Allegedly, a post on this subject was nuked by the CMs in the official forums earlier today. However, even if this is what the post was about, speculating on unreleased content is explicitly forbidden by the forum terms of service, so the post would have been removed whether or not it was accurate. Thus this is still solidly speculative. But we can dream. Now I don't know which I'm hoping for:
Diablo 3 or sooner Death Knights. Not that there's any reason they can't do both.

Could anyone tell me, if I just have a character in level 55, would I be able to create a Death Knight on whatever realm I wanted to?

Killah: yes. One 55+ on any realm lets you make a DK on any realm(s) you want.

Greg is correct.
Blizzard doesn't give people ingame advantages for paying money (thank god). The TCG loot cards are all fluff; acess to the new class early is not.
Again, not happening.

Alright, maybe this will ease my fear of overplayed death knights the class appeals to me greatly but i am insane and overplayed classes (top played) bothers me. So i dunno if i will be playing death knight or not. So hopefully this comes true.

I hope it happens too. But not because I want to play one. I'm looking forward to the giant piles of corpses created when 10000 lvl 55's spawn in the exact same place in a contested area.

Warcraft 4 Ghost? It shows up as Warcraft 5 and 6 Ghost, too... Maybe they're turning the remnants of Starcraft Ghost into a new Warcraft shooter?

Yeah, I don't see this happening. All a person has to do is pre-order the game, put the initial deposit, then cancel the pre-order, get the deposit back, and boom, free Death Knight and no expansion.

Aside from what thephear said, there's also the fact that you would need to distribute activation codes of some sort to all of those people. They'd have to do that via retail or online, but since most people are probably going to pre-order via a retail shop, I don't see how they could coordinate all of the retail shops to give out the activation codes very easily.

I dunno - Warhammer Online is doing something similar with their Collector's Edition when you pre-order, and it's working out OK. Every pre-order comes with three codes, one for each of three special bonuses.
Some stores (GameStop, for example) have cards with the three codes printed on them that they give you when you pre-order. (Or they're SUPPOSED to - mine screwed up majorly.) Other stores (Best Buy, for example) have a fake game box you buy, and inside are the codes and a coupon to get the game on release day. Online stores (Amazon.com, for example) generally just store the codes somewhere on their website or e-mail them to you.
(I'll go ahead and pimp them - Amazon has an awesome setup for this kind of thing. Though I did have a problem when I tried to order WAR from them, since I did two separate pre-orders and the codes from the second pre-order overwrote the codes from the first one. But an e-mail to tech support and less than 24 hours later, I had both my sets of codes again, and a copy of the codes in my inbox as well, in case of future glitches.)
Anyway, point being - it's not unthinkable logistically for them to do this. Though I do think this rumor is just wishful thinking.
