As expected, Penny Arcade did show up at the Seattle Darkmoon Faire last weekend, and also as expected, Tycho did bring a raid deck. He also, surprisingly, dressed up for the role -- apparently he worse the cape they'd depicted in the comic while running the Molten Core game (though he couldn't find a skull pin to go with it). Sounds like a lot of fun. Upper Deck has coverage of the event, though we couldn't find any mention of the Penny Arcade guys.Another thing Tycho mentions (and that makes it into the comic today, NSFW) is that even for people familiar but not fanatic about the game like them, entering these tournaments can be really tough -- there are tons of solid decks and strategies out there, and if you haven't done the research, someone who has can very easily trounce you. They even mention a "three card infinite damage combo" that players can use. Unfortunately, that's way too far over my TCG strategy head to actually tell you what it is (maybe commenters can help), but it seems like for new players especially, these formal TCG events might be a little tough to get into.
Still, the Darkmoon Faire events are fun, even if you're not playing at the top of the heap. UDE has lots more news about upcoming events on their website.

Actually, the person depicted in the comic beat me in the first round of tournament and we both went over to the PA booth to wait for round 2. The combo he used is:
Ritual Sacrifice
PX-238 Winter Wondervolt
High Priestess Tyrande Whisperwind
The Priestess makes it so that whenever a Night Elf dies in your party, they're replaced by a Wisp. The Wondervolt makes everyone a Night Elf... even Wisps... so if a Wisp dies, it's replaced by a Wisp.
Ritual Sacrifice allows a Warlock to destroy an ally in his party to do 1 damage. So he destroys an ally for 1 damage, it is a Night Elf so its replaced by a Wisp. He destroys the Wisp for 1 damage, it's a Night Elf so it's replaced by a Wisp. And the circle can continue infinately unless the opposing player has a card that allows them to destroy one of the 3 cards mentioned above.
If they don't (as I didn't at the time)... then there is no way to stop it... you're dead.

Royal Assassin can be killed too easily, you need something more efficient, or give Royal shroud.

The Orc ally is Barak the Shamed. If you bid, say, 4 billion damage, then the Ring keeps you from being destroyed, and Berserker Rage gives your hero 1 billion ATK.

No, because "infinite" in TcG usually means "arbitrarily large number".
MtG has lots of "infinite" combos. Some good (bans ensue), some just cool (casual fodder!), and the game system of that is far from broken.
