Hey there! I'm the Warcraft and Other Hooha blogger - just wanted to pop in and say that that post wasn't a collection of ALL the taxidermy in Wow, just what I've bumped into so far. But I think there's a case to be made that there are secret taxidermists already lurking around the game. I'm looking with suspiction at the leatherworking trainers, they'd have a lot of spare parts to work with after all.

Oh and not to mention the slightly freaky question of - if you kill a druid in pvp, can you still skin and stuff it if the druid was in bear form? I'm thinking that won't be an option. (Note: I also play a druid! Strangely I would be amused by this anyhow.)

I want this for pure pvp purposes - I would love to have a guild house lined w/ the horde we've killed - granted I'm sure horde would have a gallery of dead gnomes in theirs... poor gnomes - we get no love

Interesting, that stuffed dancing bear is found in the night elf starting zone, which I visited literally for the first time in years last week. It's just a few floors down and in the same tree as the druid trainer. Guess it's not such an obvious deal when you're 7-9 levels away from bear form, but still a little sickening. ;^)

Instead of copying LotRO features into WoW, why not just let players go play LotRO too? It's a very good game, and very good for people burned out on WoW. I only played for a month or so, but I praise the game highly. It is possible to play multiple MMOs, without hating any of them over the others you also play.

I love LotRO too but I still want many of its features in WoW. I simply don't have the time to invest playing two different MMORPG's but I still loved many of the features from LotRO. I would prefer to see WoW adopt the good ideas from LotRO. I would also then like to see LotRO adopt many of WoWs good ideas.
No reason why good ideas can't be used by both games. Let them borrow from each other and both games will be the better for it.

Actually none of the posts are in any way critical of LoTRO Online, which I should say that I have played and enjoyed, but are actually amused with the concept they're using. You can't really completely say that we're calling for Wow to "copy" LotRO when there are so many elements all MMOs are picking up from games past. Player housing first originated with Ultima Online I think, though I'm not certain about that - in any case you find any old school Ultima folks and they can talk to you about origins. (I think that may be the case for US online games, possible that may not be the case if we factor other countries into the mix.) Anyhow, the point is what they do with the concept, how they use it creatively.
And exactly what Mullinator said - I just don't have time to play ALL MMOs for long amounts of time. Right now I'm checking out Conan, but only a few hours here and there, and that'll be it when the month runs out. What's really funny in Conan is the amount of people who refuse to say that the game used ANYTHING that could be in any way similar to Wow.

Taxidermy was introduced into LotRO in the patch which introduced housing, along with a load of crafting plans for furniture, paintings, etc. They have since added fishing trophies as well (after, of course, adding fishing).
The Taxidermy stuff is really meant for Guild Halls, which have the space to put them. House design in LotRO is nowehere near the flexibility of base design in CoH, and by the time you have even basic furniture in a LotRO house, there is nowhere to put a lot of stuffed animals.
Since I could see WoW Guild Halls long before personal player housing, there's potentially a future for taxidermists in WoW... sometime.
