hunters have a nice button made for omen its callled feign death u presss that button when omen shows ur bar going past the tanks and it fixes it and keeps u alive

learn to jump shot or strafe

no matter how good u r u will always be considered a huntard

turn off growl unless its needed

ur pet is there to defend u better the pet die than u

learn to kite

macros HATE U

have most of ur shots ready to use no matter how useless it is

aspect of the beast is useless

never misdirect on a squishe no matter how funny it seams

healers are ur friend save them when u need to a loss of dps is better than a loss of heals

beast master spec is the bomb

I have find uses for pretty much everyone of your addons (my fav is Blipstick... I've always hated how the exclaimation marks are all exaggeratingly big on minimap)

Turning off growl is easy:

Why party2? because when I'm with one other person, either my leveling partner or someone I'm running thru an instance, I want growl on.

And yes, I don't use all of FL's logic anymore, only the call/rez bit.

Watch the traget's target. When it becomes *you*, FD... or even better, FD before that after some gnarly crits.

Multi-shot isn't only for multiple mobs. It can deal big damage to single targets as well.

For pure damage, make sure you pick a DPS pet that can learn either Gore or Claw. These are focus dumps, meaning they will use them every time they have enough focus. Talents like Go for the Throat help keep your pet spamming these attacks.

If you are in a situation where you expect your pet to die more than you want to pay to feed them, consider a Boar pet. They'll eat mage bread.


You could at least give good tips.

Instead of watching the target's target and feigning after the fact, or screwing up your shot rotation and wasting mana, install Omen and learn to read the threat meter.

Multi-shot is a waste of DPS on single-target. A good shot rotation will be far, far more mana-efficient and increase DPS accordingly.

Wind serpents are also high DPS pets. Lightning Breath = win.

Many pet families besides the boar eat bread - i.e. wind serpents - and aren't as pitiful on damage. Besides, how broke are you that you can't afford a stack of meat to feed a proper DPS pet?

Or just be smart enough to right click the Growl icon and turn it off... it's amazing how many Hunters I've run into at 70 who don't even know you can do this.

I never said to not get Omen, however I believe that using a threat meter as a crutch is a sign of a player who doesn't know how to watch their aggro without help. I also didn't say to wait till you took aggro. I said to FD when/if you do, and *before* if you are high on the threat list (the threat list that any good player should be able to keep in their head without Omen).

Multishot is not, in fact, a waste of DPS, especially if a hunter happens to have specced to increase its crit chance. You are also assuming that I'm only talking about raids or boss fights, which I'm not. The writer asked for general Hunter tips, and that's what I'm giving. If you'd like to provide raid specific tips, be my guest, but highly specific advice does not invalidate my general ones.

Sure, wind serpents are good damage too. I didn't say they weren't. However, lighting breath is a nature based attack, and therefore subject to resists or even immunities that the target may have. It also costs 50 focus, while claw costs 25. The low end of lightning breath at 70 hits for a base of 99. The low end of claw at 70 hits for a base of 54, and can hit twice for every one lightning breath, *and* is not subject to resists and immunity. Gore has a chance to be slightly better, assuming a steady 50% occurrence of the double damage effect, averaging 55 damage as base minimum at 70. Obviously random chance could make it better or worse than claw, but on average, statically, it is better.

Boars and bread. I'm not broke, thank you for your concern. You, however, may need to be reminded that pets are not only there for DPS, and situations where pets die a lot are usually in groups. It is not uncommon, especially at the lower levels (which the article seems to be aimed at) for a pet to off tank for groups. True, all pets can do this well enough, but a Boar is definitely going to do a better job of it than a wind serpent. In fact, it's usually *while* doing this sort of off tanking/add management that pets tend to die. Strictly DPS pets usually don't suffer as regularly as OT capable pets.

Please remember the context of the original question when offering advice. The writer didn't ask for raid advice. Shocking as it might be to some, there are people who just want to know some general words of wisdom to help them out in the lower levels. You know, *before* you have steady shot? Remember those days? Probably not...
