Wowhead announced today that it has released a download client for Mac OS X. Now the denizens of the cult of Mac can contribute to the collective WoW knowledge base that so deliciously feeds our need for data on lewtz. Just like the Windows version, the new OS X client installs Wowhead Looter, an addon which tallies up information in the background as you play and populates the Wowhead database with stats the game's items, drop rates, quests, and all sorts of other goodness. Just remember that you need a Wowhead account before the Looter can upload information back to the database. Otherwise, you've just got yourself an addon that's all dressed up with no place to go.
[Thanks, Toras.]

Okay, not the right topic...but I keep getting fatal errors when I come to this site due to ads you guys are running on your page. Just an FYI. It's becoming a serious issue and crashing my brower.

Oh and I also get page error due to ads on my browser at work.
Firefox doesn't have these issues, cause ad's are not allowed.

Just before I download it and contribute:
I've read (even on this blog) that all of the big WoW Databases are now owned by gold farmers. Is it just an urban legend? How can I trust binaries from the same ones which day by day hack accounts to spam/sell/farm?

To quote from Wikipedia:
"The Inquirer noted that Affinity Media, parent company of Thottbot and Allakhazam, bought Wowhead for $1 million, giving them ownership of all three major World of Warcraft databases.
Affinity Media was the previous parent company of IGE, which generated revenue from selling World of Warcraft gold, but Affinity Media later severed ties with IGE."

You're no more helping gold farmers by using WoWhead's client then you are helping Nazis by buying a BMW. There just isn't any connection and hasn't been for a long while.

I've heard that the human eye can't really notice a difference above 30-35fps

I just installed it... works nicely. They have some OS X development chops - it works like a very nice Mac App, not a third-rate port. Aces WoWHead, I'll be contributing!

The app was actually developed by an Apple software engineer named Rudy (http://www.wowhead.com/?user=wowrudy), who happens to be a Wowhead fan. We're very lucky to have his help. :)

Awesome. How about he go and start slapping the guys at Vent to actually work with the standard protocol? And make the software look like a Mac program?

Seriously? Is that you John C. Dvorak?
What's next? Windows users are referred to as blue screen fetishists?

I downloaded, and tried it. Works great. Amazing that something can work well and look good. I'll never understand why some windoze users feel that things can't be pretty and functional.
Anyway, kudos to Wowhead for finally letting us Mac users contribute to the site. Even Windows users should be excited as the data on Wowhead should only improve.
