Gnomechewer's latest film, Standing in the Way of Control, was named after a song by The Gossip, although the mix he used is actually a mashup with Elastica's Connection. The machinima is about an Orc rogue that goes back in time to ensure that Thrall is still warchief in the present. To get his story across, he blends art and model-viewed characters together to create a surreal effect!

Indeed, the tune really makes the film, a point that a lot of people miss.
The effects were certainly top notch. My only real nitpick was that the wrong model of dragon was used. Then again, there weren't footmen in OHB either, so it seems to be a stylistic choice.

That was cool. I'll be keeping an eye on the filmmaker. I'm not sure that something in this style would work for a much longer work (Kara or Molten Core), but I would love to see something like this used as the title sequence/intro to a larger more standard-style machinima.

Loved it. I didn't spend too much time searching, but the lack of a high quality version detracts from the end quality. I bet the vid looks amazing in high def.

I believe there's an option for the high definition version on this in Youtube, as does most of Gnomechewer's videos there.
Cheers! :D

A sure fire way to piss people off today would be to say that this video is pretentious, all-style no substance and looks ugly as sin.
So I'll say that :>

Feh. The style IS the substance -- It's essentially a music video, and a unique, well designed one. It's the first one that's actually made me sit up and be impressed by a machinima.
The sure-fire way to put me down would be to say that this marks me as an ignorant philistine, so you should probably go ahead and say that. :)

Very nice.
(The style seems awfully familiar, but I can't pinpoint it...)

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing...
First thing that came to my mind was http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SNHtKfDxlg though.
Also, Cowboy Bebop's opening: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6zDfxZ4NcE

It actually reminded me very much of the James Bond openings, actually, although it's clearly a lot less iconic and more stylistic.

There's too much praise here, we need something petty to say in contrast:
Vicious Horde propaganda!
Kidding aside, very stylish. But I like the original Connection song more, though, but, you can't please everyone.

Keeping it short here:
unoriginal and ugly.
And no, I don't give a shit about whether or not the maker tried something new because that's one of the most nonsensical arguments I've ever heard. Originality can not substitute visual appeal, period.

I won't try the 'original' argument then.
I'll instead argue that your claim of 'ugly' is completely subjective. Personally, I think it's the best looking machinima I've ever seen.
