I've heard this idea many times before, but I don't know that we've ever officially covered it here on the site: there is a fairly large movement in the player base, especially among the shorter folks, to have Blizzard continue the Gnomeregan story line -- and give Gnomer back to the Gnomes. Gnomer is pretty much the most hated of all the instances (well, Uldaman might barely overtake it in some circles), and as happy as the Gnomes are in Ironforge, a lot of the pint-sized ankle-pokers would like to have their city back.Unfortunately, Blizzard has given the idea short shrift (ha!) to say the least -- while there are lots of rumored expansion plans, even beyond Wrath of the Lich King, it's mostly the Maelstrom and the Emerald Dream; nothing about the Leper Gnomes in Gnomer. You'd think they wouldn't be that hard to clear out (lower level groups regularly make short work of them -- ha!), although radiation is tough to fight off. Even the best Gnomish scientists seem to hold the belief they'll be able return to Gnomer, so it must be possible, right?
But to make a long story short (ha! OK I'll stop), retaking Gnomeregan just isn't on Blizzard's priority list. The city might work great as a portal hub, or even a new setting for a BG or Arena, but as it is right now, Gnomeregan is staying in the hands of the Lepers and the Troggs.

To be fair, as bad as Gnomes got it, the Trolls got kicked off their islands by a group of level eights and a single level ten. I'm sorry, but that's just bad. And not in a Nintendo Power Glove way.
I'd like to see a "New Gnomeregan" added elsewhere, perhaps expanding the Ironforge Airport to add an extra large town.

The IF airport absolutetly, possitively must be rebuilt (new Daily) and opened to access the Northend when Wrath comes out.

Meh. There are tons of troll cities all over the place, and Zul'Aman has new forest troll art, etc.
Part of the thing that would be cool about giving the gnomes back Gnomeregan is that you'd get a cool technological city of which there are gno others (Toshley Station falls short here, but it's pretty neat).
The other major difference is that there isn't actually a real "city," housing or civilization on the troll islands. Just a couple of huts. Kinda lame to get that back, but you can have it if you really want it.
I think a technological city hub for the gnomes, wherever would be pretty cool. I always liked the tech+fantasy mix of warcraft.

There IS that big, empty space in northeastern Dun Morogh that's just begging to be developed. The gnomes could build a new city there.

I like that thought.
One thought though, needing to recover technology, make a different wing(level 80 or what?) where there's a daily quest to recover parts for the new Gnomer, that both factions can participate in.
A way to politically mend the divide between the factions, so killing Arthas could be a little easier.

I don't even think about Gnomer at all. It doesn't even enter my thought process when leveling up.

Sad to hear the pants for most classes from the end boss quest are fantastic. Mail pants with more armor than a lot of low level Plate? leather with Gobs of AGI?
I never pass up Gnomer on my alts.

That, and I get the hydrocane for all my characters that can use staves. I sounds kinda dumb, but I noticed a fair difference of being able to do stuff underwater without fear of drowning on my priest that I had a heck of a time doing on my paladin..... though it does suck when you walk into Hyjal with that still equipped and you figure it out halfway through narjentus when your mana is shot to hell.... :)

count me among the people who love their hydrocane. i am almost at 60, and i still carry my hydrocane around -- i think of it as my scuba mask -- and i don't think i'll ever dump it. it's way to nice not to have to worry about drowning!

Let them have it.
Then we can flood it and see if irradiated excrement floats.
Seriously though, Blizzard does dump on gnomes a lot. Not that I would ever play a barbershop midget, but I don't think Senjin Village should be the only trailer part in Azeroth either.
On the other hand, if Troggs can kick you the hell out, throw your junk on the curb, and send you crying to the dwarves like they're your mama, do they really deserve to have it back?
