Comedy Central's Indecision 2008 blog is feeling froggy -- after we posted about their failed attempt at World of Warcraft humor, they got the original writer of their article, who is apparently an old school D&D gamer, to respond to our allegations that the piece wasn't funny. He calls us WoW players "Lancelot-come-latelies," and says that before we ever rolled our first Night Elf, he was rolling d20s in his friend's parents' basement.Which may be true. But he's wrong about one thing: we WoW players are funny. Just look at our memes, our injokes, and our heroes, from Steve to Leeroy Jenkins. We know funny. Tony DiGerolamo probably hasn't even ever tricked somebody into /gquitting -- he wouldn't know funny if it was an epic drop off of Saurfang himself! And he wants to play the nerd card by claiming he's nerdier than us? Listen, Tony, you may have been hanging out with your friends in basements, but we're hanging out in basements alone!
Wait...
At any rate, we hope the excellent Indecision 2008 blog has learned something from this experience: leave the Warcraft humor to those who've powerleveled it up to a 375 skill, and stick to the political jokes. Seriously, though, is Lewis Black hiring? Because I've got some jokes about Warlocks that are comedy gold!

... Actually, if you read the comments on the Indecision blog, these guys really missed the point of the author's satire. They're like "lol dorks" ... and, I mean, the blogger said that, too, but when he said it, it was because he's a dork. Not because he's judging dorks.
... What a dork, AMIRITE

wow. that comedy central writer was very angry and insulting. His post was not funny to me, as a wow player, or my girlfriend, who is a regular watcher of comedy central, but not a wow player. Who was his intended audience, anyway?

Actually, the worst mistake Comedy Central did was hire someone from D&D to write about WoW. Sure, some of the finer points may still be relevant, but it's still apples and oranges. Comedy Central should just plain hire a writer who is WoW gamer to do all the writing, at least then, the references would have made better sense.

In retrospect, how would said author feel if Comedy Central hired a WoW addict to write about D&D? The gap would be immense.

Sorry to tell you Mike but his article was funny and true...everything you mention as funny...really isnt that funny...this guy totally pwned wowinsider
"The only thing computer games taught me was how to get carpal tunnel syndrome while balancing a bowl of Doritos between my legs"
"You want a WoW player to write your comedy? Son, I got maps on graph paper funnier than WoW players. Point and click that into your soul shard bag, Leroy Jenkins."
"You're playing Dungeons & Dragons online, ya dink! I'm sorry the rest of us didn't need blinking graphics and shiny things to immerse ourselves in fantasy. Using a state-of-the-art flat screen and keyboard doesn't exactly get me in the mood to talk like I'm in medieval times. Oh, sorry, TYPE like I'm in medieval times. Oh, wait, I'm sorry, use a fucking HEADSET like I'm in medieval times."

I played D&D. I had Wave, Whelm AND Blackrazor. You're telling me D&D players don't already know how to balance a bowl of doritos between their legs? Have you SEEN us? You can't even see the graph on the table for all the bags of snack chips. Doritos, Rold Gold, Cheetos, it's a forest of starches, I'm amazed all those black dragons don't have breath weapon cone attacks of pure carbohydrates.
As for WoW players... naah, generally not all that funny. But Leroy Jenkins jokes are *played out* even amoug them, and Azerack the Demilich here should know it.

I was playing D&D when only humans could be paladins, Dwarves, elves, and halflings had class level caps and the DM was usually someone that had flunked out of college but could out think anyone else in the copier place he worked at.
I saw what the article actually was based on and, well, it wasn't even funny for D&D.

WoW would probably be more funny if we could see our dice rolls:
Rolls 20 - Check Critical
Rolls 20 - Check Massive
Rolls 20 - Yahoo, Ragnaros Down. Who wants to tackle Nefarian?
But yeah, WoW handles the execution more than how to for the quests. Blizzard will never allow us to use that Orb of one Wish to get the quest items. And of course we will never see the face of the GM when you defeat his dungeon which he spended 3 hours making in 5 minutes.
Well, at least we have a life... Oh wait..

You're my hero JacksonW. I didn't want to read 12 more pages waiting for someone with a brain to step in and point this out.
They're having fun here. Both CC and WI. All of this is a joke, and for once, I'm actually not pissed off that Mike's blogging. :P Mike, you picked up on the tounge-in-cheek humor, and did an excellent job of playing along.
All of this is funny as hell... including the responses from kids who don't seem to realize what's going on here. :)

In general I think WoW players(the mature ones, at least) have nothing but respect for D&D. The problem here is the blog writer tried to pass off a D&D column as a WoW column, and it just doesn't work that way.
We're all playing in Tolkien's world, anyway... or wait, he took it from Beowulf, and Beowulf came from...

This reminds of when people got upset about the "inaccuracies" in the south park episode. Admittedly, his first article wasn't that funny, but not worth the hoopla. fortunately, the hoopla provoked a second article that was pretty damn funny.

What I don't get is how this guy can sit there and criticize people who play WoW. It's not like playing D&D is so much better a pastime.

Man, that guy comes off sounding like a total douche. Also? He entirely misses the point. His original piece was supposed to be WoW based humor. It was full of mistakes, which were pointed out here. His response? Throw a tantrum about how WoW and WoW players suck? What a dumbass. If he wanted to write a D&D piece, he should have done so. It probably would have been a lot funnier, as he would have known what he was talking about.
