EU Stormscale Guild
adult swim were
recently interviewed by Nihilum (you know,
those guys) for downing
Gruul the Dragonkiller with a Karazhan-short 8 people. Nihilum had released a video of their guys doing Gruul with a mere 15 raiders, and it was something that adult swim leader
Snookiwooki said was
"pretty easy". According to Snookiwooki, adult swim had a fairly light raiding schedule and were merely looking for
"stupid things to do outside of raids". Because of the nature of the fight, adult swim stuck to ranged DPS to minimize worry about
cave ins.
The self-described semi-hardcore guild of 35 people believe that their accomplishment can be duplicated by any equally-geared (they're currently progressing through
Sunwell Plateau) raid with the proper set-up. Snookiwooki also mentions that since they won't be attempting Gruul for a while, guilds are more than welcome to beat the record. With entry-level 25-man raid content now doable with a mere 8 people, the winds of
Wrath of the Lich King seem closer than ever. Watch the video
here.

"semi-hardcore". Props for the delicious irony, intentional or not.

Anyone doing Sunwell is not Semi-hardcore. They just don't realize they are hardcore.
If they truly aren't that hardcore, they are machines. Machines that are far too good to be real humans and are able to take over the world.
I for one, welcome our new machine overlords...

I once downed Ragnaros with nothing more than my 3 trusty Barov servants and a carrot on a stick. Sadly my "print screen" button at the mechanic that night, but let me tell you it was epic.

yeah, we've been pugging gruul - we can go in with first timers and one-shot HKM and two- or three-shot gruul. this is still impressive, though, just because there's gotta be a lot of dps output in them thar dpsers to beat the one-shot timer.

I'll say it, I'm impressed. I and 24 other scrubs are still somewhat challenged by Gruul.

Wowwiki suggestes you need raid-wise DPS of 6667 to down Gruul before he starts 1-shotting tanks.
Figuring 2 healers (0 dps) & 1 tank (300 dps) you need 5 people to put out about 1,300 DPS. Brutallus (the tier 6.5 DPS race boss requires 26k DPS, nearly 4 fold increase over Gruul.
Math - the # of characters on DPS is less than 1/3 of a normal 25-man raid. target raid DPS is 1/4 of what they need at their gear level.
Conclusion: next challenge please.

What? Plain english please.
Anyways, I can't tell the setup they used. Two tanks, two healers, 4 DPS? or 1 healer? or 1 tank? Idk.
P.S. 6667 DPS is considering 2 tanks (i'm assuming). If you have one tank, like in your setup, then the hurtful strikes will mean your tank is going to go down faster.

They killed Gruul on growth 20, this is the challenge.
A tank with kara-equivalent gear cannot go past growth 15 even if heal-spammed.

Now if they 5-manned HKM on the way in I'd be really impressed...

if they used a mage war druid warlock healer, then it could be done.
Thats prolly the setup they used, I can't see what they did though.
Mage, Warlock, Ele Sham, (DPS), War, Druid, Healer, Healer? Idk.

Nvm i see Druid, Warlock, SP, Hunter, Sham (assuming ele?), and three others. I can't tell what the three on the left are. =(. One on far left is prolly pally or priest.

Right at the end of the vid in the credits, it lists their group composition: 1 Warrior, 1 Shaman, 2 Warlocks, 1 Hunter, 1 Shadowpriest, 1 Druid & 1 Paladin.
Personally, I found this to be extremely inspirational and something that I'd like to even come close to in our own guild (fairly new with not much experience ... yet)

Looks like composition is hunter, druid (feral OT), warrior, paladin, warlock x 2, shaman (healer), and shadow priest.
I actually looked at the video and they are shuffling group composition throughout the video. I didn't even realize you could do that while in combat, but I am guessing that is a trick to maximize the shadow priest's mana regen, and the DPS boosting cooldowns like bloodlust.

Composition adjustment is done in raids all the time. It's part of raid leadership strategy. Swapping in for spells like Mana Tide or Bloodlust, swapping out dead raiders, etc.
