Hotlunch of Thunderlord has a bit of a problem - It seems she was out on the prowl recently, and found herself an AFK Warlock. However, despite the fact that she jumped out of hiding and wailed away at the poor Warlock, the Warlock's faithful Felguard came to his aid and killed her first. To Hotlunch's credit, she didn't immediately chalk up the blame to overpowered Warlocks but, probably rightly, to her gear. It's pretty true that poorly geared Rogues aren't much trouble to your well geared Warlock. As long as you have the hp and armor to last through their barrage of stuns to get off a fear and trinket out of Crippling Poison, then kite them around while they burn through Cloak of Shadows and Cheat Death, they're pretty easy. It's when you get the well geared rogues with tons of armor penetration and resilience that you start feeling the sting of those blades.
Of course, some people in the thread rightfully pointed out that she should start looking at Opportunist's Battlegear for a quick leg up on PvP gear - it seems like her situation is exactly what it was implemented to help out with, and might have helped out a bit with the Felguard. Good luck to Hotlunch on getting geared up. With a little more preparation, I'm sure the next AFK Warlock won't be so lucky.
But thinking about the situation, I think it's also a good counter to those people who get caught in complaining about "welfare epics" and all that.
There's millions of people out there who play this game, after after all, and many of them are probably mostly like Hotlunch, working their way up, maybe on their first 70, maybe on the first 70 they've been serious on, looking for ways to close the gap, get in groups, contribute in battlegrounds, scrape their way up the Arena ladder starting at 1500, 0 Arena points, and no Season 2 or Season 3 gear. They have to be able to start the climb too, and all those Season 3 geared people staring them down, while they should rightly be on top, shouldn't be insurmountable obstacles.
So in that case, things like Reputation PvP gear and Gladiator gear for honor aren't just welfare epics, but a much needed hand up in making sure that people can get to the next step of the PvP game. After all, you can hone your skills and get good gear for PvE by slowly ramping up your game, going from Heroics to Karazhan to Gruul and so on, but when you PvP, even WoW's current matching system doesn't stop you from being throw up against full Season 3 wearing heavy hitters in Battlegrounds and Arena, and you'll certainly see them out in the world if you're on a PvP server - but if they're AFK, and they have a pet or a damage shield, maybe you should just leave them be until your gear's a bit better, as Hotlunch found out.

Typing AFK in a level 20+ contested zone as a 70 is the best way to gank. I can't count the number of times I have done this. It gets better every time.

There is no amount of welfare epics that will teach a rogue to kill the attacking threat instead of the inanimate AFK threat. To link these two issues is not exactly an honest link.

Yeah, but you got to admit, this rogue obviously sucks at pvp seeing that he claims his "gear" was the problem. So he's crappin in his pants hoping to kill this lock before he/she hears the attack and starts noobcoiling and chain fearing.

well, I wasn't exactly afk when this happened, but I didn't mean to all the same.
I was down in the tomb of lights killing a few ethereals on my way to doing the vengeful harbinger quest when I accidentally pulled 3 mobs instead of one. As a warrior with no healer that can easily mean a trip to the spirit healer. So I popped sweeping strikes and recklessness and proceeded to pound the snot out of these things. I spun off a whirlwind and saw some blood fly up BEHIND me. I was a little confused by this until I heard the distinct sound of an undead male going through his little death rattle, and I was credited with an HK. I'm not even sure if he was going to attempt the gank, but I'm glad I never found out. hehe

I ganked myself.
I was working on sunfury dailies, standing in front of some 'guard' sunfury mobs. When a pull went bad (marksman and two blood knights), so I dotted them up and feared.
Unbeknowst to me, an Allie was sitting amongst the 'guards' and was in my fear range.
The guards aggro'd on me and proceeded to smack me down, hard and fast, because the Allie was in my fear radius.
needless to say, the next time, I engadged the mobs further away from the guards ;-)

I haven't read the details outside of what was listed here, but if said rogue was murdered by a pet, she obviously bit off WAY more than they could chew.
As a combat rogue, I without a doubt, could burn down an AFK player before the pet would have its way with me. Burning cooldowns (blade flurry, adrenaline rush, and evasion) + SnD would make it trivial. Might even kill the pet first.

there is no way.....no way at all, none, in no fassion, under any circumstances no matter how long the universe lasts for could a lock ever, even with the help of god, allah and barny the wonder dinosaw could a lock beat a rogue.....ever...it does not happen unless the rogue is actually an escaped keybord jacking hamster. even then, given that the lock is afk, all the hamster needs to do is accidentaly wander over to the auto attack button then take a dump.
seriously, this could not have happened, im a dam good lock and the last time i killed a rogue was back in 1934.
i call ultimate bs

As a keyboard jacking hamster, unable to find said key upon which to defecate, I have been owned by many a lock. Howl of Terror, dots, death coil, more dots, fear, more dots... I'm bloody lucky to land a hit. And when I do, between soul link, demon armor, and stacked stamina, a lock is anything but squishy.
But as far as an AFK lock beating a rogue, it's just not possible. It's called "vanish". We use it when getting pwnd by things so we can escape to fight another day.
The rogue in the story should probably stick to easier prey - perhaps sheep, cows, or maybe even the occasional squirrel.

Funny how nobody has yet mentioned that if the rogue has used blind on the felguard and used evasion once the blind broke, he could have taken the lock out before his pet had time to kill him. Even if not, if he really wanted the lock dead, he could have vanished, healed, and tried again without the lock regenerating much health.
Taking out the lock instead of the felguard first is really the smart thing to do though. The felguard has much more armor, and if the lock comes back from afk while you're beating on his felguard, prepare to get kited around and killed. At least killing the lock gets rid of both him and his pet.
I seriously can't believe nobody thought of typing this yet. I guess some rogues just really suck at pvp. Imagine that.

Funny how no one mentioned that if the warlock has a felguard, he has Soul Link and guess what, damaging the warlock will break blind on the Felguard. Imagine that.
Also imagine a fight between someone in full season 3 versus someone in full Outland greens. 400+ resilience will floor the greens-wearing rogue's chance to crit. That cloth will seem like plate.
Lastly, imagine the scaling the felguard has when their master warlock is in full season 3. My warlock only has partial season 3 and his felguard can muster 200 dps once it gets going. Someone with 7k hp, no resilience, and not defending themselves against the melee strikes is dead in about 30 seconds.
Evasion would have helped, sure. But the only thing Hotlunch failed at was a judgement call. She shouldn't fight anyone in season 3 gear EVER until she has a few epics of her own.

Uh, no. Blind breaks on damage, Felguard means the Lock has Soul Link, Lock taking damage means Felguard takes damage.

wow, easiest class for rogues to kill, imo... even if a lock trinkets out of crippling and kidney shot and gets a CoEx on him, the rogue can just CoS and Shiv another crippling and just kill, kill, kill...without fear (pun intended)

Tough luck...Although i admire these lvl 70 "newbies".
I prefer a lvl 70 new to this lvl who tries hard, than those lvl 70s who think they're so great they don't even have to help new lvl 70s climb up the game.
I always try and help them with info, and sometimes even in quests i've done a long time ago, just so they have a chance in the game.
Sometimes a little bit of help makes all the difference between a good player and a complete n00b.

Wow, look at all the elitists out here! Not sure how many of you play rogues, but this scenario isn't as unlikely as you'd think. While Vanish should have been used, taking out a warlock isn't as easy as you're making it sound... particularly when you don't have anti-fear trinkets or decent gear, and your crits are completely voided by huge amounts of resilience.
Then again, most of you probably have no idea what I'm talking about, since you can't fathom the idea of a rogue having JUST hit 70, with just a selection of quested/dropped greens and blues, and don't remember to the bad ol' days of when raiders in Tier-grade armor were steamrolling the battlegrounds regularly.
