On April 1st, Gadling blogger Erik Mclaughlin took a little trip to a place we all know well: Azeroth! He describes a bit of a lowbie safari than spans from the the treetops of Darnassus, to a safari in the Barrens, to the Mage Quarter of Stormwind. It's a fun little read, and reminded me of a question posed by Temperius of Cenarion Circle a bit back on the official forums: Assuming you didn't have to worry about being attacked, at least not too much, Where would you go if you could be a tourist in the World of Warcraft?
To be honest, I'd have a hard time deciding because there's very few places I wouldn't want to go. Some of the more demon infested places might end up being too ugly, but I have to say, I'd love to attend a banquet in Karazhan and take in an actual non-ghostly Opera or watching the patterns of the twisting nether from a high cliff in Netherstorm. I'd have to do some cliff diving from the Twin Colossals, and meditate by the moonwell outside Stormrage Barrow Den in Moonglade. And those would just be the beginning. How about fishing in Booty Bay, or joining the Shatterspear tribe for a bonfire dance party? What about joining Hemet on his almost certain-to-happen hunting trip up to the Grizzly Hills of Northrend?
Assuming you could do it all in relative safety (Let's say you had a magic item that gave you exalted reputation with everything), how would you do the touristy thing in Azeroth? Where would you go? What would you do?

Probably a place where the Horde is hanging out.. Yes, I regret joining the dumb asses that make up most of the Alliance.
Excluding my whining above, I would say either Ironforge/Stormwind for the booze, or Azshara for the peace and tranquility.

I'd definately enjoy the Ravenloft-like atmosphere of Duskwood, reveling in the gothic horror of the zone.
I'd also love to visit Thunder Bluff in person, but I'd have to get at least Neutral with the Tauren first! ^_^
P.S. The Tauren hot-springs under the Shaman section of Thunder Bluff. Who hasn't made their toon relax in the warm, soothing waters before?

i'd have to say my favorite spots to visit would be winterspring, ungoro, tanaris, and nagrand.
on a slightly related note, has anyone else heard of the companies that do "virtual tourism" in different mmo's/virtual worlds? you just sign up for the one you want (from what i recall of the website for the one company i saw you could pick from something like 15 virtual worlds) and an in-game tour guide helps you make a character and takes you on a tour.

Gadgetzan. I'd play poker in the inn all day. Or maybe Area 52, help the goblins with their rocket, and then try to get on said rocket if they ever finish it. Dalaran might be fun, who knows what's under that dome, they might have water slides and rollercoasters for all we know (thus making it a very good touristy spot).

I'd hang out on the beach at Tanaris. Beautiful water around there (sounds great too right on the water's edge) and surely not long to go before the goblins invent water skiing and speedboats.
