Spensi on WoW LJ says she may have accidentally ninja'ed -- it was clear before the raid that if Moroes' Pocket Watch dropped, she would get it. But when it actually dropped, she apparently looted it herself as main looter without saying anything, and her guildies didn't quite remember the deal before the instance started. Was it a ninja? I don't know -- there are good points on both sides.In fact, it seems the only way to really avoid loot drama is to, unfortunately, be as selfless as possible. Last night, I did a run of Ramparts on my up-and-coming hunter, and on the first boss, the Hunter mail pants dropped. The other Hunter in the party needed them as well, so we rolled on them, and I won. Later in the instance, another green piece came up that we both needed, but to be fair, I let him have it. And finally, on the second boss, the mail hands dropped, and I did need them, but once again, to avoid drama, I just let the other Hunter have them. I could probably have made a case for at least rolling on them, but it wouldn't have been fair for me to walk away from the instance with two blues when he only had a green, so to keep the peace I let it go.
It worked out, too, because I picked up some great blue hands anyway when I turned the quest in. And that's the thing to remember when it comes to loot -- there will always be more of it. Even if your item doesn't drop, or you don't win this roll, or your guildie gets angry because you nabbed an item, even though they knew you needed it, there'll always be more drops and more rolls and more loot to get.

I wish more people had that commitment to fairness, especially when it comes to rolling on loot even though you already won a roll earlier in the run. Alas, it is not to be however.

I generally try to keep the rule of consideration... if you've won one of of the nice blue or purple drops in the run, step out of rolling on the next item until everyone gets a chance. Once everyone's had a chance, then its all game for the next round.
Works well from RFC all the way up to Ramparts and beyond.

Eh, I think I'm pretty fair. If I need it, then I roll need. I'll link my previous gear too, and I don't confuse need with want (I'll pass a minor upgrade if someone else could use it better).
If that means I need half the drops, then I need them. If I don't need anything, I pass (or D/E for the group, or greed to D/E for myself).
Haven't run into any problems yet. Figure if I do, I can safely ridicule them as well for being greedy/foolish.

I think she did the right thing by taking the Pocketwatch (main vs alt offspec, is this really an argument?), but a moment of loot confirmation in raid chat and/or vent would've been prudent.

This happened to me on my 60 priest. Cloth shoulders dropped on the 1st boss in ramps and there was a mage in the group. Since i got the shoulders from the quest the day before i didn't really need them so I passed and he got them. Later on the last boss drops the healing pants dropped. I instantly typed NEED and proceeded to need them, well guess what the mage did also? Needed and won. His excuse was "I sorry, but thoes pants were good." I didn't get mad but goes to show you how indecent some people are.

A moonkin rolled an WON on the Light Channeler in BF. When the healing pally and my lolsmiting priest (we didn't need to healers) both needed it. His reason? It had damage on it.
I knew there had to be a reason I had him on /ignore for an earlier Ramps run. I just didn't recall why.

I usually look up what it is that I'm trying to get out of the run and tell the group ahead of time that, look, this is what I'm here for and this is what I'll be rolling on if it comes up. I also confirm before I do it, asking if it's alright if I need it just so I don't piss off the group when it could've been avoided.

I kinda ninja'd some gloves in Karazhan last night. At 1am the epic rogue gloves dropped from a trash mob, so I put my "+" in chat, but I forgot that I already got my t4 token 2 hours ago. I just didn't turn them in so when I checked my character tab I just noticed blue gloves.
Been trying to get a GM to give the gloves to our enchanter since then. 18 hours and counting.

FYI, Item recovery and issues of that sort are running 3-5 calendar days for a GM to resolve an escalated ticket.
Just went through that with an item that I vendored and needed to have restored.

i had a similar problem when the Executioneer enchant dropped on a guild run on ZA. It was on group loot and we were everyone on vent and I am freak sure i heard someone saying to all enchanters hit need if need... I did it and it happen that everyone pass'ed as usual... I was very shamed about that, I didnt had the rod to use it and I did everything I could to at least be able to learn and use, the enchant asap. but I was very upset to myselft that in the excitment of the moment i didnt paied enought attention on the vent.

An accidental ninja is what happened to me on my Hunter last week in our Karathon. Finish Chess, open the chest to get my badges, click ok on the are you sure warning. Check the raid chat and notice I just received Kings Defender. Oops :(
Fortunately, all that tanks in the run had no need for it.

This is one of my biggest fears every time we loot a boss. Accepting the wrong item. Often, I click the badges thrice, just to be sure. I am so glad they will put the name of the chosen item up with 2.4.

Yeah same thing happened to me :(. I was on a run through Kara and the t4 token for warriors gloves dropped and i accidently looted it on my hunter... People we're calling me a ninja all over trade chat but I just kept quiet and waited for it to pass over :( Was a few months ago so no1 remembers

That's a nice feel good message. And I support it, to a limit. I'm a really good humored fella, and can put up with a lot. But anytime I get into a H Mech group, I make it VERY clear that if Sun Eater drops and anyone even rolls on it, I will hunt them down and kill their families.
... ok, I wouldn't kill anyone. But I'd probably put their entire guild on ignore.
