Roadkillowns of Aerie Peak posed the question on the official forums, what is the easiest class to level? Hunter came up most frequently as an easy class to level followed by Warlocks. They usually have very little downtime. Protection Warriors and Holy Priests were often quoted as the most difficult to level.
Having leveled a Shaman, Paladin, Hunter, Priest, and Druid to level seventy myself I have to say that as a solo character, the Hunter was hands-down the easiest for me. Between my pet carrying agro for me and the glorious Feign Death ability, I was always good to go.
I'd have to say I had the hardest time with the Shaman. She was Resto for instance healing, which made fights drag out forever when soloing. I'd walk away from her for weeks at time. Now she's my favorite. I have a really hard time with melee DPS. I have a level 40 Warrior that I just can't get behind.
What makes a class easy or difficult to level?

Pssh, everyone knows Paladins are the easiest class to level.
This is a topic that's been beaten to death already.
Hunters > Warlocks > Mages > Shadowpriests > *

Are any of them really "Difficult" to level?
Only difficulty come in making sure you have enough Water/Food to deal with the downtime.
I leveled my priest as Holy, at no point did i think it was hard, it was just slow.

surely the question should be, which talent build is the hardest / slowest to level. a non BM hunter, non demon lock, or non shadow priest would have as much of a hard time levelling as a protection warrior, i suspect.

I have had experience with many classes, and it depends on the level range. When it got towards the longer levels 50+, I had the easiest time leveling my feral druid to be honest.
At low levels, there isn't much difference. Paladins are the worst. Go retribution and everyone mocks you. Go holy and take 3 hours to kill a critter.

a non demon lock would have a hard time? the utter lack of downtime for an affliction lock made my leveling incredibly fast

U forgot druids... i can level up a druid much faster than a mage. Fight in cat/bear form, go back on humanoid form and uve got ur mana regenerated, innervate if need. Also u can travel around fast with feral swiftness, travel form and flight form when u reach lvl 68. Druids have high survivability, we can stealth, got lots of HoT, and we can easly run.
(+its a funny class^^)
REROLL DRUID!

I leveled most of the classes (except priest) to at least 65 (mage is 65, others are 70).
I must say that warlocks are NOT easy to level, and are fairly difficult to master. The question is not what class has least down time, but how hard (not how fast - if i got it right) is to level it.
My order would be Hunter > Rogue > Shamman (Enh)
Frost mages can be quite easy when you learn the game mechanics.

I've leveled warlock, hunter and shaman, and I must say that warlock was the easiest. Nothing to master really, go affliction, dot and wait. :) Enhancement shaman was easier then the hunter too. :/
Warlock->Shaman->Hunter IMO

Grajen is half right -- warlocks are easy to level, IF you know what you are doing, if you know how to play the class and use their strengths. If you don't understand warlocks they can be tough to level.
The problem with hunters is that they are too easy to level, even if you don't understand the class. Anyone can level a hunter to 70 (quickly, even), few can master them. But, again -- this is an old old topic and we all already know that right?

By "easy" players often mean "fast to level 70 with minimum downtime".
Pet class > Non-Pet class
Hunter > Warlock only because of Leather/Mail armor and higher pet dps.

TBH it's more like hunter > lock because hunters can use no mana and still own mobs. At least at low level locks will use a fair amount of mana and have to drink or eat at some point, hunters can 100% Ctrl+1, 1 every mob 10-70. shots just speed up the killing a bit

On PvP it might be also a Rogue... but... well... from the other hand nobody will pass Rogue a bit lower level (or much lower level) without taking revenge for all the hard time other rogues gave them ;-)

I have done all classes at least to level 20 and IMO, it was easiest with Hunter and Warlock, hardest with Priest and Rogue. (I completed Mage/Warlock/Hunter past to level 70 and ofc talents/abilities make all classes MUCH better later on.)
Priests obviously just have less power before Shadowform, and on quests where you attack camps of mobs it is like "uh oh!". But the surprise was I found my Rogue won quickly and died quickly at lvl 20.

It takes awhile for rogues to get their most potent abilities. I didn't feel like a killing machine on my rogue until about level 30, same for my warrior. I found hunter absolutely boring unless I tried to take on multiple mobs at a time, but it does have very little downtime compared to my enhancement shaman.

From the characters I've leveled:
Hunter > Mage > Priest (shadow) > Shaman (enhancement)
Hunters are definately WoW on easy mode for leveling and Shamans are a complete and royal pain, particularly at low levels.
