Well, this is an unexpected pleasure. A new public test realm just opened up, and it's an arena tournament server. This means you can go create level 70 characters there of whatever class you wish, and grab neat gear off the vendors, and go fight each other. That's about all you'll be able to do, because the PvE content on that realm has been disabled, as it will be on the actual tournament realms. This actually implements something I've been thinking about in the context of WoW for a while: god wars. God wars was a type of MUD where all the characters were maximum level, and the fun of it was being a super-powerful character -- a god -- going around killing other super-powerful characters. No PvE to speak of, no story, no grinding, just PvP all the time, or at least that's how I remember it (it's been a while since my MUD days). Here's your PvP minigame, folks. Wouldn't it be nice if these types of realms were part of the regular game, separate from the tournament, but perhaps with a ladder?

I like this idea. Cut out Arenas from the regular servers, dump it all on Arena servers, and leave PVP as world encounters and occasional BG runs like the old days.

This reminds me of the PvP characters from Guild Wars. They started max level, and could only PvP, but you still had to earn you skills. While I still like earning PvP gear on my main, this is a neat little playground for when I need a break.

I have serious doubts about the viability and longevity of this, essentially its poking its face into the same competitive space as Quake Wars and Unreal Tournament 3. Ouch.
While WoW has imported the popular formats of these games into battlegrounds already they lack the breadth, pace and skill base of these games. Its cost is much higher and it lacks the single most important feature that gives these games their lifespan, user generated content.

Why would you even need a ladder on these hypothetical God-player realms? I'm sure they'd be just as fun, perhaps even more so for the hodge-podge insanity that would emerge from the chaos. Got my vote, where do I sign?

I like this idea. Give the arena junkies their own servers with their own rulesets so that those of us who want to enjoy the game as it was MEANT to be played can do so.

Supposed to be only one PTR set up, for both US and EU realms. Possibly if US players can access it so can EU ones.

I downloaded the PTR client and attempted to get onto the Arena Server but I got an error when attempting to create a character on there.
Correct me if I'm wrong here but perhaps this means its not yet available for EU players.

I could create my character, but I can't further than that? I get stuck at the "retrieving character list" thing.

Doesn't really have a name, it's just on its own tab for the tournament. Just go to selecting servers and look for the other tab.
