Fear not, my friends, Bagnon is here to solve your dilemma. It has been mentioned by WoW Insider before, and many believed it had fallen through the cracks into obscurity. Given your newfound hope for something simple yet elegant, I'll move right into its features and options.
Bagnon comes packaged with four programs, three of which are optional. - Bagnon: This is the core of the addon, it displays your inventory and bank in single frames.
- Bagnon_Forever: An optional package that allows you to view your bank and the inventory of any of your other characters from anywhere. (I love this when I need to check if my alt's Mallet of Zul'Furrak is in the bank or in his bags.)
- Bagnon_Tooltips: Another optional package that tells you on item tooltips, which characters of yours have the item, and where.
- Bagnon_Options: The package that holds an on-demand options menu.
By default they are:
- Ammo and Soul Pouch: Yellow Borders
- Profession Bag: Green Borders
- Keyring slots: Orange Borders

- To access the general options, you can use the slash command: /bgn
- To toggle the display of your bags you can use the slash command: /bgn bags
- Finally, to display your bank, use the slash command: /bgn bank
Although this addon lacks some of the functionality of more complex inventory management programs, it has some powerful features and a clean aesthetic. I was happy to have all of my bags put into a single frame, the other features just add to my enjoyment of its simple usefulness.

Just to throw my $0.02 into this - I started playing without anything like this and I realized that once I installed one of these add-ons, I hated it. I had a pretty good organizational system and I thought this would be good but it was way too overwhelming to see everything like this. I keep stuff I always need (lockpicking tools, skinning knife, hearth, pets, ammo) in my far left bag, then what's in each bag going right goes down in "useful-ness".
I do like the idea of knowing what's in alt's banks, etc.
But as far as "(I love this when I need to check if my Mallet of Zul'Furrak is in the bank.)" - why would you need an add-on to tell you this? It's either in YOUR bag or YOUR bank as it's soulbound.
I find setting "open all bags" to B pretty much the same as anything like this, again, except for knowing what's in your bank.

I think he was trying to check whether his alt had the mallet in his bag or bank from his main.

If you want a light-weight addon that can help you remember who has what and where, give Possessions a try.
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/1404/
The addon requires little to no configuration and querying your characters is done through the chat frame. For example, if you want to see how many Nightmare Vine you have, you do a simple "/poss Nightmare Vine" (you can also type the first few letters of an item rather than typing it out completely). It will return to you a window stating (assuming you have Nightmare Vine) who has the item, where the item is, and how many you have.
This is incredibly useful for those of us with bank mules. It can also keep track of items in the mailbox...

I have tried them all, Bagnon is, hands down, the BEST.
I wish the author hadn't abandoned it or the code could be made ACE'd.

Questions about bagnon. I've been using BankItems, and I love that I can search the inventories of all characters. Does Bagnon have that capability or does the search only apply to the current character?

Yes, if you switch to a different character's bag/bank and double click to search, it searches that character's items.

Best bag addon ever. I love the ability to be able to look at my bank and bags for all my characters with a hot key no matter which character I am on at the time.

I prefer Baggins, which also has several great optional modules like "Anywhere, Bottomscan, and Itemrack".

I find Baggins far easier to use than Bagnon. I used Bagnon a long time ago but switched when I saw how you could expand the capabilities of the addon with other modules. Not to mention the fact that instead of just lumping everything together like Bagnon, it separates inventory and bank items into categories like Armor, Weapons, Consumables, Tradeskills, etc. It is very customizable so if you want to change how it categorizes certain items you can do so.
I also agree with the person who said Possessions is a great addon. It allows me to search for an item and find out if one of my characters has it and how many.

I use baggins too. It seems to me the most refined and mod-able bag mod out there. You can make it look like the default WoW bags, and have it sort your things, you can even change how an item is sorted if you dont like it there.
Its just very useful.

I have used this ever since I came back to play WoW, and it's been one of the only mods i've always used, consistently. It's pretty amazing, to be honest.
It's cool to see that some of the best mods are really super simple.
