Once upon a time, titles were markers of PvP status. In the old PvP system (before patch 2.0), people who had attained a particular PvP rank had the option of showing it next to their name; I never got past "Captain," but it was fun all the same. With the new PvP system, though, the ability to gain these titles were removed from the game, though as I recall players retained the highest rank they had ever achieved as an optional title. Shortly following this development, Blizzard announced that they intended to expand the title system, giving them out to players for various achievements PvP and PvE alike.
With patch 2.4, it'll be time to add one more to that list: "of the Shattered Sun." This is, as far as I know, the first title that comes after your name [edit: not so much], and I like the look of it: "Eliah of the Shattered Sun." Yes please. So what do I have to do to attain this coveted marker? Hand over some gold. Specifically, 1000g. There also seem to be quite a few prerequisites. But according to the Wowhead page for the quest which gives the title, called "A Magnanimous Benefactor," once you've gotten to the right point in the quest chain, the next quest just asks for "a large contribution." Drop the coin and the title is yours. Is it worth the price of a flying mount for something that is purely cosmetic? You decide.

Actually, this isn't the first title you could buy, the arena season one titles were. How many Gladiators with no PVP gear to they're name did you see last summer?

Cash for Honours? Didn't know Blizzard were taking cues from the Labour government.
Eh, I can't see the problem. Exalted and a grand? For something utterly pointless? Beats a crappy tabard.
Just means titles gained from raids and suchlike will "mean" more. I can't see how something that has precisely no effect on gameplay is going to "ruin" the game except for those individuals who get their knickers in a twist over nothing.

Welfare implies someone receiving something for nothing...elitists use it the same way ppl use the term "noob".
From my understanding, you will have to be exalted with the faction to receive the title....so are you going to start off at the Sunwell already exalted? Nope, you have to work for it...so how come ppl are already calling it a "welfare title"....*sigh*.

Garbage of an idea. If they're looking for a way to slow down the economy with additional money sinks they need some help in their 'creative' department.
Bring back free titles and make them like achievements with the 360. Kill 1000 Whelplings? Earn a title. Be in the top 10% of your BG for contributions during the round a set amount of times? Earn a title.
They could do so much with this and other small, trivial things, to help 'flesh out' the game and allow us to breath a small breath of 'life' into our characters but they've not acted to allow us to do that yet. Hopefully they'll come around....

Well, if you have 1000g to drop on a title, that's an achievement in itself. I don't understand why it's any different from killing 1000 whelpings. It takes hard work to get Gold (legitimately). This is the first title that rewards that. It's not such a bad thing.

has anyone actually bothered looking at the questchain that leads you to it?
i thought they did a good job of couching the whole thing into a scenario that didn't seem contrived but is reasonably sensible (i.e. you're donating to help set up a widows and orphans fund.)
there's also by the look of it a daily quest where you can donate 10g first to complete the monument and then to help said widows and orphans -- presumably for a straight faction boost.
if you don't like it, i suggest not doing it, but overall i don't see what the big deal is with the title.

I don't see what the big deal is, a person gets exhalted by doing the dailies or whatever else earns you rep with these people and helps build up the town... and they get a title out of it. I dont see it as any different then getting Champion of the Naruu, it's not hard to get, it just takes time just like getting exhalted with these people and it's free, it doesn't cost you 1k of your gold. People always like to throw "welfare" around but i thought it didn't take any work to recieve welfare benifits? As far as i know this will take alot of work, getting a full S1 set takes time and persistance. The whole welfare thing needs to die, and i dont even know why that guy used it in the first place.

I like the idea along with all the others that makes the game more casual friendly. People constantly complain about "Welfare" whatever. But most people like having stuff that is accessible without being the best player on your server. Also it is another in the long line of things which doesn't hurt people who don't like it. If you have the hand of Ad'al title someone else has this one people will know what went into each.

If you actually look at the comments on the link in the article, ScarletRouge gives a long list of quests (one time and daily) which you need to complete to build the city. The quest for the title can only be done after all 4 phases are complete. By the look of it, you could probably be at least revered by the end of phase four. Complete a few weeks worth of daily quests, drop 1000 gold and have your title. As you can see, this is not welfare; this is a lot of work.
Personally, I'd love to have this title! I like the name Shattered Sun so I would gladly drop 1000g for it. Actually, after thinking about it, I would bet that you would be able to get about 1000g from completing all of the quests to get to exalted.

LOTRO does titles so much better. They actually kept me playing that game much longer than I normally would have.
Am I seeing cracks in Blizzard's armor? They should be smarter than this. This is no way to implement titles in the game.

Nobody has actually seen how this quest is implemented yet.
It's assumed that it'll require exalted with the Shattered Sun, and it clearly requires all of Sun's Reach to be recaptured.
Personally, I'll be buying it. I got to First Sergeant before the old PVP system was trashed, and I'm looking forward to something new.
They should throw in a Dragonhawk mount while they're at it, for 2000g. I'd probably still use my Netherdrake, but it'd be fun to run around with the title/tabard/mount.

Oh, and by the way, there's also a possibility that this may work like the Scarab Lord title, where it's only available for a limited amount of time (IE no longer available when the Battle for Sun's Reach is completely over).

just add the old titles back to BGs for fucks sake. everyone and their mom still uses them (if the char is older than a year) and they dont look as retarded as the new ones.

I'm not a big one for titles myself, but for the people who like that kind of thing, why not? I will never understand the attitude people take over putting things in the game that non-raiders can earn with patience and a lot of hard work. It's as if they believe that their epic gear from raiding means less just because someone else was able to get epic gear a different way.
As for the LotRO doing it better, well, it's nice that LotR has at least ONE thing it does better. I haven't exactly seen an exodus of players leaving WoW for it, even if it does have awesome titles.

I'm a casual, but I agree with some raiders about the all welfare thing going on...
I still remember when you just stared in wonder when someone had Ashkandi or an almost complete T2, or a Rank 14 PvP'er with thousands of HK, really badass...
Now you look to an epic and you say "meh, just another epic"... epics now aren't epics, are just blues with a purple name, they lost all their power, that magic about someone with Naxxramas loot hanging around IF pre-TBC...
I hope Blizzard emend this mistake and give back the epic feeling of having an epic, not this "if I lose I can get loot" thing that we have now... and rephrasing me again, I'm a casual, if things are more difficult (but not too difficult), the sweeter is getting them, at least I think this way.

People over-reacting to this clearly dont understand how its going to be achieved.
You dont pop along to a vendor, pay 1000g and recieve a title.
Have you seen the size of the questline you (and your realm) has to do to get to the stage of the sunwell unlock where this is available? Its huge.
Anyway likely list of requirements:
1) Completed all sunwell unlock quests up to that point
2) Sunwell exalted (whatever the faction is called)
3) Only available at a certain stage of the unlocking (second last hand in i think).
So basically, only people that actively helped farm every day to open the sunwell plateau instance will get this title. The oppertunity is going to be gone before all the "noobs" catch on and it will most likely still be a fairly rare title.
Look at the facts and think objectively before you start bawwwing next time eh?

As seen on the PTR, this is the first title that will let you combine both a prefix and a suffix title. There is also no comma separating your name from the suffix.
So your nameplate would read
Conquerer JoeBob of the Shattered Sun

I'm sure some people will pay for the title. 1000g doesn't seem like much anymore. I wonder if they will let these players keep it into the expansion?
