Once upon a time, titles were markers of PvP status. In the old PvP system (before patch 2.0), people who had attained a particular PvP rank had the option of showing it next to their name; I never got past "Captain," but it was fun all the same. With the new PvP system, though, the ability to gain these titles were removed from the game, though as I recall players retained the highest rank they had ever achieved as an optional title. Shortly following this development, Blizzard announced that they intended to expand the title system, giving them out to players for various achievements PvP and PvE alike.
With patch 2.4, it'll be time to add one more to that list: "of the Shattered Sun." This is, as far as I know, the first title that comes after your name [edit: not so much], and I like the look of it: "Eliah of the Shattered Sun." Yes please. So what do I have to do to attain this coveted marker? Hand over some gold. Specifically, 1000g. There also seem to be quite a few prerequisites. But according to the Wowhead page for the quest which gives the title, called "A Magnanimous Benefactor," once you've gotten to the right point in the quest chain, the next quest just asks for "a large contribution." Drop the coin and the title is yours. Is it worth the price of a flying mount for something that is purely cosmetic? You decide.

WHAT?!?!?
Blizzard mocks the LOTR title system saying it doesn't properly reward great feats - that it trivializes the Title concept...
So they respond by tossing in a goofy questline that culminates you in paying 1,000 GOLD for a title?
GG Blizzard.

Champion of the Naaru is the first, actually.

"Champion of The naaru" just came after they removed the attunement to SSC/TK (you need to be TK attuned to get the title).
And next patch also comes "Hand of A'dal", requiring attunement to BT.
So, no, it's not the first.
Although I would really really like to get the title "of The Shattered Sun" on my druid because it would sound so nice on her. Shani of The Shattered Sun sounds awesome. Although my guildies have threatened to laugh at anyone who's got the money to spare to spend on a fricking title. Maybe they're just jealous I have the money to spend...

The sad thing is, it wouldn't surprise me and people would probably buy them.

Both "Champion of the Naaru" and "Hand of A'dal" come after your name.
"Name, Champion of the Naaru"
"Name, Hand of A'dal"
The above is the way the titles are formatted in game.

Interesting. Does it show up with other titles? Like, could I conceivably be "Conqueror Baluki of the Shattered Sun"? That would be pretty cool.
I'd like to see them add some class- and race-specific titles to the game. I'd love to be Witch Doctor Baluki. Maybe it could be a lvl. 80 questline.

It requires Exalted with Shattered Sun Offensive, from the look of things.
So, it's WoW's first "Welfare Title"

1000g = Welfare?
I dunno about that....

My comment was meant as a bit of a joke regarding a previous column regarding "welfare epics".
I'm glad everybody got the joke.

25 daily quests X ~10G per quest = 4 days to your title. Yes, it's a welfare title.

Other than the 1000 gold requirement, very little is known about this title. I'm guessing it also requires that you're exalted with the Shattered Sun Offensive.
I happily bought the Cenarion Expedidtion Hippogryph, and I'll happily buy this title.
There is also rumour of a Dragonhawk flying mount.

Bleh!
Agreed with the detractors. This sucks. Titles should be something that are damned hard to earn.

Titles should be hard to earn, but should be attainable at any time, scarab lord sucks.
The new stuff isnt so bad, Hand of Adal and Champion, those are do able, but I also think there should be soloable titles.

I don't know. I kind of like time-limited titles -- I'd love to see Blizzard put in a "single person only" title, perhaps, on a long solo-only quest chain, for example. Link it into a big world event.
Oh man. That WOULD be cool. You pick up a quest from item drop, say, a treasure map (only cooler). Following it through, you get bigger and bigger issues, and of course, you're the only one with the quest (since it's an item based one).
Then, on the last point, your actions cause a massive, evil Titan to re-emerge on Azeroth, kicking off the latest Big Bad of the game's arrival.
As the inadvertent dumbass who successfully unleashed pure evil on Azeroth, you get the "Herald of the Titan" as your title. Both a mark of honor and shame.

Clarification: You're the only one in your party with the quest, in all probability -- I'd still imagine multiple people fighting to finish this thing first.

It probably requires Exalted with the Shattered Sun Offensive AND can only be done during the time when the fourth area is unlocked (Sun's Reach Harbor), but before the monument is completed. Read the quests "A Chariatable Donation" and "Your Continued Support" to get an idea of the timing.

I think this is going to be a LOL title. My main has 'blood guard', which took me getting to exalted running AVs to get. This is just 'do your dailies, spend your extra gold'. People will mock players with this title.

I don't think it's that trivial, it recognizes people who helped build the monument from the looks of it....unless of course the quest continues after the monument is complete.

"[Name] of the Welfare Title" would be much more apropriated... good god, what's next? Cheaper versions of 40-man/ TBC 25-man raid bosses for solo farming? -.-'
