Yep, unfortunately, this won't really help the poor talasites. In the yellow corner we have spell dmg/spell hit gems, and will also have spell dmg/spell haste gems come 2.4. In the blue corner we have spell dmg/stam, and, if a caster is so compelled to actually go by slot colour (rarely there is a socket bonus worth going for), then this will prob be the preferred choice over a talasite, even a somewhat useful one like this.
I've never gotten why talasites are so unbelievably cheap though... well, that's a lie, it's obvious there aren't many good options. However, the stam/resil gem is pretty damn good, and makes it pretty easy to get the meta gem requirement for the 18 stam/5% stun resist meta which is oh so handy in PvP.
I can imagine the spell haste dawnstones being somewhat popular, and the spell haste/spell damage noble topaz being quite popular, especially with shadow priests.

For many casters, the new talasites will be the preferred gem to fill blue requirements for socket bonuses.

I'd like to see the maths before I believe that. As far as I understand, for all spell casters, hit is the preferred stat til capped, then spell damage is superior to crit and haste, even with the current haste gear in the game.
Will the effect on GCD *really* make haste better than spell damage? I would be interested to find out.

The theorycrafting says haste = damage for BT shadow priests.
P.S. I really wish they would make metas suck less. They seem to nerf all the interesting ones, and just add new boring ones.

Haste effecting the GCD won't make the stat better than damage, it will just make it better than completely useless for affliction locks and shadow priests.

Talasite is in a pretty bad state on my server, people are practically giving away Steady Talasite at 10g each.
This will help a bit I suppose.
