Today is Groundhog Day. I would recommend you all go watch the like-titled movie with Bill Murray in it while doing your dailies. A quick scan of my TV guide reveals its on just about every cable network. For those of you that haven't seen the movie, I'll give you a spoiler: Bill Murray repeats the same day, Groundhog Day, over and over again, somewhere in the neighborhood of 3,650 times.Sound familiar?
Enter the world of raiding.
While the game play itself can be very fun and exciting, no one can really argue that at times it's nothing more than a long grind. This is okay to some extent, but has the game moved too far into grind mode?
There's a lot of reasons to think that it has. First, we have the dailies that for most players are their primary source of income (in the game, we hope not in the real world). Every morning I wake up about an hour early just to hit the dailies on a couple alts to make my gold. It's really a necessity for me; there is no way that I could afford the two hundred plus a week in repair bills without it.
So you've done your dailies, now what? Let's spend that gold! At 70 its all too easy to spend large amounts of coin. Whether its because you're a tank and you've just repaired a completely broken set of epic armor, or its because you're an over zealous rogue who likes to surpass the tanks threat all the time and you need a bag full of health pots just to stay alive. Someway, somehow, that gold you've earned is going down the drain. And of course after you've spent that gold, its back to grinding for more gold.
And after grinding more gold, you have to spend it again... and then you have to get more gold to spend... and sooner then later you realize you and Bill Murray have a lot in common. You're trapped in your own personal Groundhog Day.

Yeah...this is why I don't play my 70 anymore. The dailies pretty much broke me mentally after about a week. Same crap, different day.

Here's a question. If you hate repetition, what are you doing playing an MMO? This is a genre that by it's very nature requires repetition. In order to even get into raiding, you have to go through instances over and over to get the right gear. If you like do battlegrounds, remember that you're repeating the same four battles over and over.
However, even though it's repetitious, it's never the exact same. Just like it was for Bill Murray, how things go depends on your own actions. Remember, Blizzard cannot afford to continuously add new stuff in. They spend a lot of the maintenance keeping servers from exploding and pleasing the morons who only love their own damn class.
Remember, there is a variable that Blizzard doesn't have total control over: the player. So enjoy yourself.
