This morning, while catching up on my weblog reading, I came across a post written by Kestrel pointing out that many players still have not trained first aid, and are not carrying, or using, bandages. Although this shouldn't have struck me as surprising, it did make me pause. Didn't everyone get the memo that post-expansion, bandages are integral? Hasn't everyone been bullied into training it? Are there really still players running around wiping more often simply because they won't carry a stack of bandages?
Evidently. If you need convincing information as to why you should be carrying this item, posts like Kestrel's will walk you through some of the situations in which not doing so can be disastrous.
As a last note on behalf of all hunters; please heal your pet in groups. Better yet, get a macro.

I carry about 20 heavy netherweave bandages, but as a holy pally, I can do the same thing on myself with holy light. I have only used them in rare situations when I was out of mana, no mana pots and low on health, then I would bubble and bandage just to buy a little time. But really, mana is more what I run out of and provision for.

Disc/Holy priest, and I have no goddamned idea why I waste an inventory slot with something that takes more time to use and is less utilitarian than simply hitting Renew.
I frankly get annoyed when party/raid members bandage after a fight, because I can throw Renew around faster than that.

As a Holy Priest I have FA maxed and carry bandages, but very, VERY rarely have to use them.
My alts (who aren't healers for the most part) use them a lot more often.

holy priest, I don't think I'm actually carrying bandages at the moment because I can just heal myself and other people. When I wasn't all raid-geared I used them a bit more, but with a mana pool over 10k its just not an issue.

I'm a shaman too, an alliance one at that, I have gift of the naaru which is faster and doesnt cost mats. I also have insane mana regen (Shatnernistic Rage FTW) so throwing in a few LSHW's doesn't really hurt my mana.

Raiders must have first aid! Sometimes there is not enough mana to heal yourself and the raid. (Najentus in Black Temple) Or Tidewalker in SSC, where if you heal yourself you get aggro from the murlocs, bandaging could mean the difference between surviving and falling over.
Also, if you ever intend to do serious arena, FA will help you last a little longer. You heal yourself with a bandage and save your mana to do an offensive spell.
Its just a little ignorant to say, "Oh I have healing spells so I dont need to learn First Aid." There will be enough situations for it to be useful. It would be the same as saying I dont carry Ankhs around to Reincarnate because I dont intend to die. :-\

True.
Oh and I forget to bring my ankhs alot xD.
Meh I guess I'll level it at some point, I'm not doing serious arena (Enhancement FTL?) or raiding, just BG grinding at the moment.

Hate to break it to you, but using bandages causes aggro too, just like potting, or doing anything, so your Tidewalker example is out.
And seriously, If you dont have enough mana to heal through a fight, you are either:
Not managing your mana
not potting when you should
focusing on the wrong stats
I am a holy priest, I heal in SSC/TK, and I never pot, and rarley use my Shadowfiend, but live on my Bangle of Endless Blessings and Earring of Soulful Meditation(which can be tripped at the same time).
It does not hurt to have a healer with First Aid training, but it is far from being crucial.....

Same here man. Enhancment SHaman - DPS like a fury warrior, heal like a druid, and squishy as a naked gnome mage.
/yeah, that last part kinda bites.

If you are in a "raiding" guild that does not require you to have maxed First Aid, you are not in a seious raiding guild. Enough said.

How so? Whats the point of wasting time and money to level something that I can do already with my racials and with mana.
It seems redundant to be able to do a slow channeled heal on myself when I can just do a quick 1.5/2.5 second heal to get me back up to full.

While this was not directed at you (please excuse English is only ma third language) there are situation where you racial and potions will be on cooldown, your mana empty, the healers busy or dead, and a bandage will prevent a wipe.
Basically, if you have not skilled First Aid you are gimping yourself for those situations.
I play an enhenacement shaman, too, (on the horde side so no dranei racial) and I also almost never have to use bandages. On the other hand, I have saved normal and heroic groups and helped raids succeed by using them. When your mana is low and a Shatter goes bad on Gruul it helps the healers a lot if you can max your health on your own.

my only 70 that doesn't have max first aid is my mage tailor because I cannot bear to use netherweave for bandages when I need so much of it for tailoring...he has managed to get up to 348 just using runecloth...I am amazed however how many times I see people not bandaging themselves during an instance run, when a few ticks of a band-aid would have saved themselves or even saved a wipe

I have never understood it either, it cost nothing to level up first aid. Just doing quests will give you more than enough cloth to level you first aid up. It's nice to just bandage instead of eat when your out questing.
