Another new service provided by Mania's Arcania is a series of in-depth articles about how to choose your first pet when you're just starting out leveling your hunter for the first time. She covers the starting zones for each race, and highlights the pros and cons of all the best pet choices in each zone. So far she's covered the orcish, night-elven, and tauren starting areas, and more are sure to come.If anyone is starting out with a hunter character for the first time, her guide is the best I've seen on this topic, especially if you really care about the details. Most beginning hunters just choose what seems nice to them at the moment, of course, (or whatever their friends recommend to them), but it's nice to have a special recourse for those who like to do all the right research and make such choices wisely.

I've had 3 different hunters and have used new pets to start off with all of them. One cat, a polar bear, and a boar. It all really depends on personal preference and what you want to have next to you while your leveling.

I've had 2 hunters and made an interesting first pet choice for both of them. My first hunter was an Orc, and he infiltrated Teldrassil for an Owl. Still have old Owliwan too. When Burning Crusade came out, I made a Draenei hunter that had to have a dragonhawk. Kehyler got her screenshot in Eversong woods in Around Azeroth. The trip across EPL was brutal.

I just recently rolled some Horde toons, and having rolled a Troll Hunter, I knew exactly what i wanted as my first main pet, Bjarn from Dun Morogh. Knowing that getting to Dun Morogh would be murderous if i did so while corporeal, i made an epic cross continent corpse run as soon as I dinged 12.
After rezzing at the spirit healer, I was quickly attacked by a patrolling guard, and had to make yet another quick run back to my body. From there, i sprinted across the snow covered slopes, stopping only to deal with a rather disgruntled Dwarf Hunter whom fell to my superior firepower. I almost stumbled into Bjarn, came around a pine tree and there he was. I quickly made sure the area was clear of any other hostiles, and commenced to tame him. It was close, he hit harder than i had remembered, and he nearly convinced me before i convinced him of my good intentions...
