Yesterday we received the word that Blizzard was opening free transfers from certain overpopulated realms to certain underpopulated realms. No doubt Blizzard is hoping to re-distribute realm population to make some of the player-less "ghost" realms more playable while alleviating login queues on the largest realms -- but we'll see how well this works after transfers are completed. For those of you on realms that have transfers available, however, are you planning on transferring? And for those of you who aren't on realms allowing transfers, would you plan on transferring if you could? After all, maybe the grass really is greener on the other side...Breakfast topic: Will you be transferring?

As a Garithosian, I would welcome more people to our realm. I don't see why anyone would want to transfer here, but we certainly do need more action.

My small guild on Burning Blade is really gonna consider moving to Jaedenar...since we just PvP and play really casually, we aren't worried about not being with all the top-progressed guilds or anything. It'd be nice to not have a queue when it's time to jump on for the evening :)

The only thing that could make me realm transfer would be the opening of an Australian hosted server; if they ever open one I guarantee that I will be cursing the time it takes Firefox to load that realm transfer page. Even if they didn't open transfers I think that at least half of Frostmourne [and the other 'oceanic' servers] would be re-rolling on that server. Heck most people in Australia would gladly pay extra to play on a locally server! But alas, it doesn't look like it's going to happen any time soon :(
In the mean time I'm staying on Frostmourne, praying that something good comes from the recent work that Lowerping and Internode have been doing; if they really can cut my latency in half I'll gladly pay for it!

Don't do the same mistake that I did and DON'T transfer your main character! Transfering a char is a lot like moving in to a new town, starting over in a new school without knowing anyone. And it's not easy being the new kid. I love my new guild a lot, but I will always miss my old friends who gaurded me and took my aggro since lvl 10, when we were all complete n00bs. Don't leave those relationships behind.

Recently I switched over an lvl 70 Alt I had from Azshara to my main server. I didn't mind Azshara, but it was insanly low pop... it just wasnt worth waiting for blizzard to take some action towards correcting the problem. Anyway, point is, am sooo glad I did.

My question is what do the people who are having tons of people transfer to their low population world think? Are they concerned that they are gonna end up in a queue eventually? Do they mind having more people running around ganking the heck out of them? lol...

I'm Horde on Ursin which is, according to warcraftrealms.com, the 3rd lowest population overall and something like the 5th lowest Horde population. I would welcome more players. My guild has downed every boss in Kara, but we can't get enough raiders to move to content beyond that. People come, stay a while, then leave to another guild. Judging by the WowJutsu rankings, there are many guilds in that same boat. I think having more players overall would help raid progression overall.

I have a few questions for people with experience with free transfers.
High pop realms, did the free transfer help alleviate Q times? Did it help?
Low pop realms, did the free server transfers "save" your realm? Did it have any impact at all? Did it change the social dynamics of the realm and how?
Just curious.

I'm on a high pop with a free transfer.
I'm reallyreallyreally hoping that tonight the queue is either very short or gone entirely. If it's not... then I'm going to be pretty bummed out.
I want a new server, mine's become filled with idiots who think that you need to be on a specific server for great PVP, when in reality the places with high quality arena teams... aren't world PVP'ing and are in the arena when they log on. People just don't do the research before they transfer. You'd have the exact same BG/Arena action on a different server, with the benefit of no queues and less jerks. But, I don't want to move somewhere that my few friends aren't going, so I think I'm suck on my server, especially if the transfers are to a dead server instead of some place decent.

LOL transfering? Are you kidding me? Someone on my realm went to the realm they are offering a free transfer to and did a /who 70 and 6 players showed up. Here's what happens with these free transfers: lowbies leveling characters, who don't know any better, get sick of waiting in a queue for 40 minutes every night, so they transfer off. Sooner or later they hit the level cap and start looking towards end-game content. But, they look around on their server and there's not many raiding guilds to choose from. So what do they do? They pay for a transfer BACK to their old high population server. Good times, good times. ;)

I know people who did this the first time Sargeras offered realm transfers. As soon as their timer was up they were trying to transfer BACK to Sargeras.
You will miss the larger server and people and things to run and do whenever you want. The smaller servers offer the distinct ability to kill your enjoyment of WoW. Thing long and hard before you leave, you will miss people, you will miss the overpopulation. Weigh your options carefully.

No, definitely not transferring. I love Mal'Ganis with its booming economy, active world PvP, and easy groupfinding. I've heard way too many stories about the ghost towns on other realms. And on top of that, it's one of the best US servers for PvE progression, and my guild is on its way up. But it's true, nobody likes queues, and there's a reason why our realm forums are littered with "we hate transfers".

Transfer out? I don't think anyone will be transfering off my server (Mug'thol). Heck we have had several threads in the forums saying pvp guilds are coming to us.
The only way I think that some people would move is if those realms were in the same Battlegroup that they are currently in.

I wouldn't transfer as my current server is fine for PvE. Worse is that I know the economy on my server and have a clue when posting and buying on the AH. On a new server I would have to learn all of the prices again and figure out what sells, what things are worth, etc. Too much effort if nothing is wrong with where you are.
Plus I wouldn't want to leave my friends and acquaintances behind... well some I might ;-)

I'm on one of the lowest population servers, there have been nights trying to get a heroic together and when I "/who priest 70" there were only 5 or 6 priests online - on the entire server!!! GG low pop sucks.

I probably would if transferring was available to me. I went on a WoW hiatus for a few months, about 6 months ago, and during that time, everyone that I enjoyed playing with either transferred to different servers, themselves, or quit the game, outright. Anymore, I feel like a townie, whose friends have all left for greater things, while I'm stuck in nowheresville, trying to make the best of a fairly-crummy situation.
But, hey... It could always be worse. Good luck to all of you who are transferring! :)

I just transfered TO a high pop from a med-low pop server, because it was seriously dead and the guild I'm in was in that storming stage where you transition from 10 to 25 mans. Only one BT guild on that server and a handful on TK/SSC. We had gruul on farm but could not recruit our way into getting a reliable raiding core that would make progression less of a pain.
