Dell announces World of Warcraft edition laptops
This morning Dell has announced their new XPS M1730 World of Warcraft edition laptop. Details are a bit sketchy, but the hardware configuration seems to match the rest of the XPS M1730 line-up, with a few extra touches for the WoW player on the go:

$2700 and I'd own it. $4500 is laughable. Sure it has video out the whazoo but the rest of the specs are more in line with laptops 1/2 the price. I'm sure that people will enjoy all the "bonus" stuff, but since I already own both CE's and went to BlizzCon (probably a Beta invite there) I think I'll buy a new laptop at 1/2 the price and use the rest to have an artist draw my toon. It's really a shame that they didn't use more common sense.

they lost me @ $4,500.
I'd rather take my $4500 and turn it into an HDTV ($2000), custom built machine ($1500-2000), and still have money left over to buy a few cases of beer and a wireless keyboard/mouse combo.

Or you could buy many many kegs of beer and hold a sweet ass party at your pad.

I agree. I got that email this morning and was REALLY interested, but again at $4500 I just laughed. If the laptop was in the 1500-2000 neighborhood they would have sold one. Like Mad Cow said, I could take $4500, build myself a killer rig and a new TV and still have money left over.
I wonder how many of these Dell will actually sell?

Dual GeForce 8600M's? That's a bit of overkill to play WoW, don't you think?

Wow. Doesn't it say it comes with beta keys for the next 5 betas? And an in-game pet. Wow...how are they justifying this price again?

It does, plus a 1:18 scale replica of your character of choice for free from FigurePrints. The site isn't "open" yet, but www.figureprints.com will be offering the custom WoW figurines. About $100 + $15 s/h and a 90 day turn around. It links up with the armory to get your characters exact armor config.

k, the collector's edition pet upgrade is enticing, but which collector's edition are we talking here? I scored the one for BC, but I completely missed out on the one for WoW Vanilla, and while I still plan on nabbing the sucker on ebay someday, it wouldn't do any good for my existing account.

Ok the Figureprints thing is pretty cool. But I'll just order one of those when their site is up. The laptop is still not worth $4500.

That price is ridiculous. I just bought Sony 52" XBR4 LCD for 3200.00 and I still would have a respectable amount of money left over to build a killa rig. I hope Dell reads these posts.
Besides, I don't have any money left after paying for 3 accounts. QQ

I'm trying to see what stats are in the LCD panel.
And this Blizzard's Beta Club - this link from Engadget (http://direct2dell.com/one2one/archive/2007/12/04/36984.aspx) says that when you join, you get keys for the next five betas. I'm very interested in that.

For $4500 it should come with a lifetime subscription to WoW and all expansions for free. That would begin to justify the price.

I actually just bought one of these (the non-WoW version) - although in the UK it was only £1599 ($3285.15) - far more reasonable :) I got it yesterday and it's... amazing! Highly recommended to WoW players. Mind you, it's a heavy, chunky beast - far more suited to being a desktop replacement than an actual laptop (I'm 6'4" tall - it doesn't fit on *my* lap! :p)
There's the plug and the mini review - I'm loving it :)

If I was looking at 4500 bucks for a laptop I'd be shopping at sagernotebooks.com. I didn't look at the specs on this Dell but I image the raid, and SLI that sager is giving me for that money is a bit better lol.

Anyone remember seeing these at Blizzcon? There were prototypes at the Dell booth; should have figured this is what it was going to be...
