Abilities:
- +19 Stamina, +20 Frost resistance, which was nice back in the days of Naxx-- now, it's not as big, but it's still a nice boost.
- And on Equip: Allows underwater breathing. That's right, just like the Hydrocane, which we covered over a year ago, this is one of the items in the game that gives this buff without a Warlock or Shaman around. This one's a lot harder to get, however.
This ring is hidden in the second part of the chain, where your goal is to get back the colored shards from the dragonflights around Azeroth. Within the Blue Shard chain, you receive this ring as a quest reward. Definitely a long, long way to go just to get a ring that will let you breathe underwater, but I think the strange placement of this ring as a quest reward is one reason Tachaeon wanted it covered here.
And finally, the strangest thing about this epic ring...
Getting Rid of it: .. is found when you sell it to a vendor. Finally, something interesting to put in the "Getting Rid of It" section! Yes, this ring sells for... wait for it... 82g 80s 85c, making it, to my knowledge, the item with the highest vendor price ingame. I don't know if this ring really qualifies for Phat loot, but it is definitely one of the most weirdly budgeted items in Azeroth.

I have to agree it was a great quest arc to get that ring and open the gates. But at the same time it was one of the few things that in the end almost made me quits.
The start of that line with the grind in sillithus was a killer. 72+ hour run to get just that done, and I am sure my rogue was online 24/7 for at least the next couple of weeks.
While it was a ton of work at the same time it really brought a sense of family to the guild I was with.
Now to log on and check that ring...

I as one of the small few who did the AQ quest must say it is not something I brag about. Infact really it was outside of the lore one of the dumbest things I ever did.
Looking back on it I kinda wish my guild had choosen some one else to be the "champion" for that quest. But live and learn and hope Blizz never does that again.

The AQ gate opening event epitomizes everything that is wrong with Blizzard's content addition philosophy. For the masses, you have an utterly ludicrous material / reputation grind for which the rewards are utterly worthless. For the elite few with no lives outside the game, you have one of the coolest quests in the game complete with appearances from important Warcraft heroes, betrayals, brand new lore, and some of the more inventive battles in the game (albeit also at the end of an utterly ludicrous reputation grind). How much of the WoW population was able to do this quest? 5%? 2%? 1?
Blizzard needs to focus on making compelling content like this for everyone. Sure fewer people will have a ginormous e-peen to stroke, but millions more will have an absolute blast.

you can still do the quest chain now. i got my ring a few months back and it required a few 'beer night' BWL/MC runs. now i'm trying to convnce people to do eranikus again -- just for kicks...:)
