Michigan plays Ohio State this week in one of the most storied football rivalries of all time. This got me thinking about WoW rivalries. Sure, we only have two teams, the Horde and Alliance -- but we have tons of classes that hate each other, particularly on the forums.
Every class seems to have a rival or two. The rogues don't get along with the hunters, the paladins and priests are constantly fighting over healing, the warriors and druids argue about tanking, and none of the clothies like each other. Everyone seems to dislike a class that shares their role, whether it be DPS, healing or tanking.
But the current epic class rivalry is probably mage/warlock. The mages feel their spot as top caster DPS has been taken unfairly by the locks. The locks feel like everyone hates them and are causing their nerfs. Throw in that both classes compete for the same items and you've got quite a brouhaha.
What do you think is the best class rivalry in WoW?

Warlocks have more health, no mana issues, pet, dots, better buff, better scaling, do more damage, better aoe damage, more choice when speccing, don't have to face elementals that are immune to their spec e.g. fire immune, better debuffs, better threat reduction, better at pvp (group and solo), did I miss anything?
but mages have better instants, and better...
a PET / DEBUFFER class beats the PRIMARY RANGED DAMAGE class at damage. gg blizz

As a mage, I hate rogues. Nothing is worse than their sneaky ass stunning me as a I ride by then I just have to watch as my health is spilled onto the ground and wait to click "release spirit."

I really liked the Paladin and Shaman rivalry pre-TBC.
It furthered the Alliance/Horde relation ship because each side had a special class that one could only play as that faction. It was more then just a "Ill heal/buff/DPS more then you will." there was more depth to it then that.
But, of course, instead of fixing the minor errors with the classes and to have people stop QQing on the forums about the classes Blizz gave each side the option to play and since then the rivalry has been blurred away.

Heh, easy there bud :P don't pop a vein or anything ^^.
In terms of "best" rivalry, s'got to be the tanks vs tanks, and the healers vs healers. I mean hell, who can lose out when everyone wants to fill the 2 roles that are hardest to find people for? So yay for the rivalry between Bear tanks and Prot warriors, and Holy priests/Holy paladins.

@8 Or use mana gems. Or evocation.

I'm a warrior tank and i like to coöp with druids and paladins (guild has 1 warrior, 1 druid and 1 paladin tank and we get along just fine). Sometimes i feel that paladins have a too easy time gaining aggro. Last night we where going for karazhan again and fought attumen, the paladin used his consecration and got both attumen and midnight on him, and from that moment on there was no way i could take attumen from him, i got out of rage and spend the fight auto attacking and bloodrage/sundering everytime it got back up.
On moroes I got the main aggro and the paladin didnt get healed (no need for it) so he gained no mana, and as soon as he was OOM he could do nothing than auto attack.
So it works both ways, it's all about coöperating with each other in the end. Why bother rivalling with party/raid/guild members if they are on your side, the things you find 'overpowered' are working for you since he/she is on your team.
With pvp the same, if you don't like rogue for instance, get some class the rogue wouldn't like to take care of him.

Not so much a hatred, but me and a warrior mate usually end up playing 'Tank Top Trumps' over TS. Im a tankadin, so its quite fun. hes got 200 more health, i got 200 more armour. hes got more block and dodge, but i always win when it comes to biggest heals :P and who has the quickest resurrection spell, and who has the most buffs, and who can make party members immune for longer, and who has the best bubble, and who gets a free horse, and who has more than 2 buttons on their action bar labelled 'Tank' and 'Spank'.
All in all he always ends up pissy coz im better :D
Warriors days are gone, the time of the ubertankahealadin is here!! and druids too ofc, i like druids.

As a holy paladin, I've never seen any kind of rivalry between pallies and other healers, we all heart each other. I suspect it has something to do with the non-competitive nature of healing compared to DPSing. I do enjoy the prot warrior/feral druid rivalry though.
Oh, and @4, giving paladins to Horde and shamans to Alliance was the best change they ever made.
hmm, apparently this site doesn't like the common abbreviation for heart.

It's pretty clear you don't play a mage.
The top rank of mana gem gives back just barely more mana than the base level 60 healthstone gives back health. And they can't crit. And evocation just got nerfed. Now, instead of swapping to my spirit weapons and getting nearly all my mana back, I get 60% back.

As a rogue, I used to hate hunters. But now at 70, I guess I don't run into them as much as I used to. Warlocks are kill on sight, regardless of level. Same as other rogues. I know how sneaky and cowardly I can be, so I return the favor. Other classes typically aren't worth the effort.

Oh, if the mages would quit whining long enough to play in a raid they would get better DPS.. but doing /cast /cry /cast /cry all the way through a raid slows down their DPS.
Yah, Mages have it real rough..
oh damn, I pulled badly.. blink/freeze
Oh damn, I migh die.. blink/freeze
Oh, bunch of little mobs around me.. Arc Expl/blink
Wow... I bet life must suck to port everywhere, blink out of trouble, iceblock and giggle at everyone trying to hit you, yadda yadda...
At least Blizzard made the 2.3 patch engine run on mage tears... my lag has gone down substantially.

Elemental Shamans and Balance Druids have an ongoing love/hate relationship to the other caster classes. While they love our buffs, they look down on us as wanna be mages and such. But just watch as the swoon over Totem of Wrath and Moonkin Aura!
The true rivalry of the game is all other classes vs Rogue and Warlock for their excessive PVP OP.

ahhh yet another troll bait article
@1 Affliction scales horribly, and their pets are even worse. Farming elementals is for suckers. Soul Shatter can be resisted, and is only good for ONE mob, and it's a 5 min timer. Yes you missed something. You're a moron! L2play
And to answer the question.. no one understands my class, so we are hated by all.
