Hello, saga of Shamans in
patch 2.3! We haven't had a post about you in, oh...a day or so. Time for an update, don't you think? And this one ought to be pleasant to most of you readers. But first, a recap.
- Blizz promised buffs for Elemental DPS in 2.3.
- It turned out to be a nerf on the PTR (for anyone over +200 damage).
- Shamans got very upset.
- ???
- Blizz realized they'd made a mistake, and buffed Elemental DPS!
Yes, it's true. Eyonix has recently
made a post in the Shaman forum promising an imminent hotfix to the PTR, to the tune of a 5-6% increase to the damage coefficients of Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning. According to the whelp, this works out as follows:
- <1100 +damage: slight buff to DPS (as compared to 2.2)
- 1100-1200: no change
- >1220: slight nerf
Well, it hardly seems to be the buffs that were promised back in the day, but hey, it beats a nerf! How about it, Shaman players? Are you pleased now, and ready to
go back to your regular totem-dropping lives?

ya ok lol...i just read something about that whilst going through the shaman forums. something about 'pulling a Tseric'. i must find out what happened lol.
and, following up my previous post, I'm happy to find out I was completely wrong. the ele shaman population seems to have exploded with epic glee, all at once. I've been so disgusted and whatnot with the wow population lately, the bar was pretty low as far as predicting their reaction.

it is a great acknowledgment to all those players who went to the PTR, did good research and testing, kudos to you guys and low twos to the CMs and Blizz devs for taking nearly 6 weeks to admit they were wrong.
SIX WEEKS!?!?
Totally pathetic, not to mention the lack of communication and discussion the CMs had with the community. It was like night and day switching between the EU forums and the US forums.
Drysc, Neth and Eyonix have a lot to learn from their European counterparts on Community Management.

This is a buff to 1-70 elemental Shamans and arena shamans who avg 800-900dmg, It is however a nerf to raiding shamans who can hit as high as 1500 dmg fully buffed.

So does the American community from the European one.

Not knowing much about how damage coefficients work, how does a 5-6% higher coefficient equal less DPS over a certain amount of spelldamage?
I play a rogue, so I'm used to things scaling somewhat linearly, so the whole concept of a DPS nerf after a certain number kinda confuses me.

Finally. I bet they add the spell coefficient to the Lightning Mastery talent. Let it be known that I've been saying this since day 1, in case I'm right. :)
Now that this issue is fixed, I'm happy with the patch.
Let's see some totem system improvements in 2.4 now.

In response to Number 5. Why did it matter if this change took 6 weeks? It's going to be changed before it ever did any damage from anyone on a live realm. We should just be happy they acknowledged it during their PTR testing.

Ok, with the new patch I'd like to keep natures swiftness but remain a viable healer and dps in pvp mostly but instances if necessary. With the dps significantly down for those of us who never invested in lightning overload, who has any opinion on this build?
