Alts are like potato chips -- you can't eat just one. Or can you? Today's Ask WoW Insider question comes from JM Campbell of Comicsradar, who writes: I've noticed a lot on the official forums and in the comments on wowinsider, people seem to generally stereotype players of certain classes/specs. I've even done so myself after a string of run-ins with bad Ret paladins. But you see all the time: Mages always qq. Rogues are always gankers. Hunters are always noobs. or Horde are a bunch of children or Alliance players suck at PVP.JM makes a good point -- if most of us tend to play several different characters, how can we get away with stereotyping so many of them? Or is it that not everyone has a chronic case of altitis, afterall? There are really two questions embedded here: do most people play more than one class, and if so, where does all this stereotyping come from?
I have an alt of almost every class and almost every race. So, how can you classify me as any one of those play styles? And my wife plays at least 3 different classes. Everyone I play with has at least one Alt of another class. Are there really players that only play one race/class/spec?

Gee, it's almost like all of those stereotypes are stupid and pointless...

I've played almost every class in some form or another. I have never played a druid and I've had everything else up to level 30 or so. I think I "associate" with my main or my primary alt a little bit more than the others, I guess.

Just my 70 paladin here. Never was able to level an alt past 20 despite best efforts. It was never an issue of time to spare, but rather interest. I couldn't get engaged with the leveling process again after doing it once, regardless of doing different quests, zones and factions.

I think regardless of alts the sterotypes apply to people with mains, which is almost everyone.

Of course, why is this remotely odd? Like I'd ever have time to play more than my mage and still raid heavily.

I'm in the several classes boat. I have a 70 Paladin and soon to be 70 Warlock, and I don't identify with only one class. I want to eventually try playing them all!

Normally, I just interact with the character I see.
If I see a ret paladin that refuses to buff or off-heal, I'll call him a Retnoob.
I'm not going to ask if he's got another character or not.

NE prot warrior since may 05 (arm/fury for leveling). I have recently started a mage just for fun, but I'm barely playing it.

While I have played all of the classes at one point in time or another, it is my wife who tends to stick to one class and one class only. For some reason she loves her rogues... O_o

I played a MELEE shaman exclusively in WoW since launch. And I can confirm every Alliance player I've killed in PvP sucks. After all, I'm playing an enhance Shaman :P

I've got a 70 warrior (Killerdjmw - Thunderlord (A)) as my main and only character. My highest level alt is currently a mage sitting at level 9.
I love end-game WoW and personally hate leveling.
Then again, I play with a ton of people with 2-3 level 70's.

I only play my Undead Warlock. Tried alts but then I get too distracted and my play time was spread so thin I saw dismal advancement on everyone. So I deleted everyone focusing on my Warlock. I'm new to WoW though, so I'm not sure what I would do once I hit 70. However, that's my goal with my Warlock...and alts get in the way of that. And I'm 100% Demonology. First, I'm a Caster at heart so classes like Warriors, Rangers, Rogues, Paladins etc don't fit me. The only things to REALLY fit are Mage, Warlock, and Priest. I like having summons. Summons in Guild Wars die off. Summons in FFXI drain your magic. Summons in WoW remain...only need a shard...easy for me. Plus, I need to be able to solo as I dont know anyone who plays WoW or would tolerate a noob such as myself. Warlock was the obvious way to go and I love every moment of it :)
