My guild does not raid, but we do have a certain raid group that most of us choose to raid with.

However because of my work schedule I sometimes am not available for the regular raid group, so I raid with an Australian raid group in the night instead.

When we were raiding MC (to farming status) we started working with players from other larger guilds who were further on in the game. We let a few of them come in and help us learn the ways of BWL. I think a guild can always be more productive if the Guildmaster/Officers are social with other guilds. there should be no rivalry between guilds, there is enough of that with the bloomin horde.

Have a read up on instance griefing and instance hijacking. That's one reason to keep raids in guild only.

Then there's the driving forces behind DKP. With end game raiding, particularly when you're pushing into new territory, it can be many runs before you see the loot you need drop. In a pug the loot rules can't be as fair as a guild DKP system.

Finally there's group coordination. This goes a long way to making a successful run. It takes time, and just can't be found in pugs.

i dont pug with people unless i see that they have some gear to show that they are great at playing their class, even if its a normal mechanar i want people with kara epics in there for a speed run. i once pugged for HKM and it was not pretty because people are stupid and ignorant.

I actually run Kara with a bunch of friends from another guild, while I run the later instances (SSC/TK) with my guild and just my guild.

As my main is only at 37, I am obviously not "in the thick of things" but being in a small guild, only once have I ever had an instance run with all guildies... Theres always a pick-up one or two.. or more... And for the most part, the lower level runs like SFK and SM really have gone pretty good with PUGs. Maybe I'm just lucky....

Raid IDs. It is really deflating when everyone is ready for your weekly guild Kara run, only to find out that one of your tanks/healers went on a Kara run with his BFF's guild earlier in the week and is saved to their ID. Now you are short a tank/healer.
Even worse is when you PUG a tank/healer to fill that last spot on Tuesday. You have some success and manage to clear thru Curator. You come back on Thursday with your full guild run, only to fnid that the guy you pugged on Tuesday came back on Wednesday, saved to your Raid ID, invited his guild, and they cleared the rest of Kara for ya. Now you are stuck with an empty Kara and no loot for everything past Curator. All you need is ONE person saved to your Raid ID to go in with another group to steal your Raid ID.

Having played FFXI and WOW for an extended amount of time, part of the reason jumping linkshells happens so much in ffxi is becouse it is easy. A player can carry multiple linkshells and change the one they are in at any given time in about 10 seconds. Wow doesnt have the options to be joined to multiple guilds at the same time by one person so of course people are going to stick with one guild.

One more reason I'm not in a guild. It's no one's business who I do/don't group with. It's my $15, I'll go and do whatever I want with whomever I want.

There are things no sane man can know... They are watching me right now... they see my thoughts. Once I talked to someone from _outside_ and was promptly disconnected. They put keyloggers and backdoors on my computer. They know every button I press. They control my firewall… oh god.

I tried moving on, out of my apartment, to another city – I changed my name. But the further I went, the worse the stabbing pain in my lower back got. I can’t get through metal detectors, they won’t let me on a plane - the doctors can’t find it. Oh god.

I called Blizzard to have my server switched, but the operator stopped talking when I told her my account name. Hushed tones in the background, and then a buzzing sound. The voice changed, a rumbling older man picked up the phone. He said I would be banned if I tried to switch servers, he said they would ban my friends. He said I couldn’t even use game cards then… they know too much.

I… must tank. They don’t let me sleep much, only to rest my eyes. When I don’t wake up for raids my phone rings constantly. I slept outside one night, in a park across the street. An old bum approached me, he asked me for food or money, I said I didn’t have any… then he asked me for gold, he asked if I could run him through shadowfang keep – I ran forever.

I caught a taxi… I told him my address, but he didn’t acknowledge it – he raced me home very quickly and took some back ways even I didn’t know about. When I got home he wouldn’t take my money and snarled at me.

I pray for patch day… I pray for server downtime. My family calls sometimes – when they manage to get through they tell me my girlfriend is very nice – I don’t have a girlfriend. I’m afraid… things are okay when I play a lot. They give me loot, they pay my repairs, they give me enchants and gems – but I can never leave.

I look out my window at night, and swear that I can see the things below me, in trench coats… lurching along the sidewalk opposite my apartment. The street light under my window reflects their glasses… all of them wearing glasses, a hundred pairs of uniformly-shaped shining reflections staring up me, O’ God.

I think my Druid alt has more epic gear than you and she's mostly wearing rep rewards.

Besides - for 5 mans I really believe 90% of clearing those (especially tempest keep) is player skill - not kara epic gear - having tanked and healed through all of them I can honestly say trash/bosses in there hit like pansies - even in heroic.

If you're feeling brave and want to PUG a 5-man instance, no one will care. If you go and get yourself saved to another guild's raid ID, though, that's just not cool. I recall someone almost being gkicked for that in the AQ/BWL days.

In FFXI it's totally different - a person is allowed to be in more than one LS (guild) at a time, it depends which one they have equiped - in addition, a person can go back and forth, back and forth to ls to ls all in a couple of minutes. In WOW, a person is only allowed one guild and when a person leaves that guild it's usually forever.
