Silvermoon Unversity is an interesting little guild-- they go above and beyond the call of RPing over on Twisting Nether. The guild is run as a real university inside Azeroth. Instead of guild officers, they have "Instructors," new guildies are called Freshmen, and so on. "Higher education meets the Horde" is their motto. That's great. And it all translates into guild activities, too-- they take field trips in different subjects (right now, on their homepage, they have a piece of news up about a "marine biology" trip off the coast of Theramore), and apparently the people in their "School of Literature and Art" actually write and perform plays, too. If you look elsewhere on their site, you can even find a "yearbook," complete with quotes, "skills" (professions), and a place of birth for each character.
Very interesting. Seems a little wacky to me, but lots of their characters haven't reached 70 yet, which means they must be getting a lot out of this roleplaying, enough to keep them from actually playing the game itself.

I was in a friendly levelling guild for a while called "Academy of War".
The guild ranks were things like, "Pupil" "Freshman" "Instructor" etc., but they really didn't take it beyond that.

That's awesome. Like Hogwarts. RP aside, it'd be a great idea to form a university that that teaches you raiding and PVP. If you could get some of the best players together to run it, they could hold real classes and probably charge gold. I'd pay someone (gold) to teach me how to better play my class. Guilds could even pay to put new raiders through school. It could save them time teaching them strategies. Might be a sweet business.

I'm much more interested in the on the corner of Cleft of Shadow and The Drag. I hear they've got a great Zep mechanic course.

Okay, so since my comment decided to cut itself, here is what it did say:
I'm much more interested in the Orgrimmar Community & Techinal College on the corner of Cleft of Shadow and The Drag. I hear they've got a great Zep mechanic course.

We have one on Shadow Council that is similar. It's called the University of Kalimdor. Player run, been going strong for a long time now. They run player guided tours of alot of the cool areas in the World (of warcraft). Lots of fun.

Thanks for picking up my post. MBAzeroth has been sleepy, but I hope to breathe more life into it.

They're not 70 so they must not be playing the game? I found my game STOPPED when I reached 70. There's nothing to do if you're not able to commit to raiding or any sort of dungeon. Heck, all I have is group quests and I can't even do those.

Lone the sidebar on their homepage:
"In the aftermath of the Marine Biology 101 expedition, the school decided to continue their studies with an impromptu visit to the Exodar. Accompanied by several Silvermoon University extension students, they attempted to discover if dranei tastes as good with cocktail sauce as regular calimari. Unfortunately, they were met with stiff resistance by city guards and a copious lack of a deep frier."
Makes me want to RP!

Yeah, I found that comment pretty hilarious, too. The game can be played many, many different ways. Racing a character to 70 is not the only way to have fun ;)

Mike, I generally like your posts here, but this comment, offhand as it may be, is snide and offensive. Just because someone's not playing the game the same way you are doesn't mean they're not playing the game.

All right-- I didn't mean it to be offensive or snide. I really meant that when I log out not having a good chunk of XP, or some BG marks, or some extra cash, or a new piece of gear at night, I feel like I've wasted my time. I love the idea of this guild and the way they've done things, and I think it's great that they've found another way to have some real fun with the game besides grinding up and making your character better.
Saying they're having fun without "playing the game" wasn't a dig at them-- it was an admittance that I'm myself too centered on making my character better rather than having fun.

Way to dig yourself deeper. There are more ways than leveling and farming EPIXES!ZOMG!! to make your character better. I have been roleplaying a troll shaman for almost 18 months now. She is still "only" level 12. But I consider her the very best character I have ever played. Raiding, killing the same bosses over and over again ad nauseam, pvp? BOOOOOORING!

I'm horrible at leveling..
I love RPing. Honestly, when I made my first character on Twisting Nether(first character ever) I didn't know what to expect out of an RP server, but I knew I didn't want leetspeek.. I've been through a two other guilds, one of which was awesome, and composed members of silvermoon prior to silvermoon, and another of which was waaay too serious for me.
Well, Twisting Nether is a better place because of Silvermoon University, they help make the server FUN.
The events are awesome, and the people are even better.
Best of all, they don't mind the fact that I'd rather just goof around and enjoy myself as opposed to power level..

Well at least they help each other out. My guild is a joke. Most are lvl 70 and they wont help anyone who is a lower lvl, like me :(. I wonder what the % of guilds that will help there lower lvl members.
