What's in store for your profession in patch 2.3? Without further ado, Insider Trader is here to update you on what craftspeople should be looking out for, now on the test realm. (Sure, you could read the official PTR patch notes -- but then you wouldn't get links to all our helpful posts at WoW Insider!)
The big news for professions, of course, is the new engineering mounts. Now that the mats list for these sweet little rides is out, we know you're all revving your engines to get those last engineering skill points. Early next week, we'll run a special engineering leveling guide with some inside advice on that brutal stretch of leveling from 300 to 375.
Until then, here are the collected notes for profession changes in patch 2.3.
PTR Patch 2.3 Notes
Professions
You can now control-click on a recipe to see how the item that is made by that recipe will look on you in the dressing room.
Alchemy
Added a sound for when a cauldron is created.
Blacksmithing
A new world drop recipe for an Adamantite Weapon Chain has been added. This new weapon chain both reduces disarm duration and increases parry rating.
Cooking
Daily cooking quests are now available from The Rokk in Shattrath City! In addition to gold, you can receive random cooking reagents and new recipes as a reward for completing these quests.
Enchanting
Duration of wizard and mana oils created by enchanters has been increased.
Engineering
Engineers can now create incredible new flying machines! Find Niobe Whizzlespark in Shadowmoon Valley to learn these fantastic new plans. Keep reading for more updates on engineering mount materials.
Plans for a new Field Repair Bot are rumored to belong to a select few Gan'arg Analyzers in Blade's Edge Mountains. The new bots will sell reagents and supplies -- a real convenience for raiders who want to stay afield for longer stretches of time during the raiding week.
Fishing
Fishermen and women can now track fishing nodes. This ability is learned from a journal sometimes found in crates obtained through fishing.
New fish can now be caught in Zul'Aman and Deadwind Pass. Recipes for preparing these new fish are obtained through the daily cooking quests.
Fishing difficulty reduced for some areas in Nagrand.
Herbalism
Picking herbs will no longer cause effects on items to trigger.
Jewelcrafting
A new skyfire meta gem recipe can be obtained from the Coilskar Siren of Shadowmoon Valley. This new meta gem increases critical strike rating and critical strike damage with spells.
Leatherworking
Stylin' hats no longer require Zhevra leather.
Greatly increased the radius of the Drums of Battle, Drums of Restoration, Drums of Speed, and Drums of War.
Removed the casting time from the Drums of Battle, Drums of Restoration, Drums of Speed, and Drums of War.
Slightly increased the radius of Drums of Panic.
Reduced the casting time of Drums of Panic and added a global cooldown equal to the casting time.
Drums of Speed and Drums of Restoration are no longer world drop recipes, and can now be obtained from the Mag'har and Kurenai faction vendors with revered standing.
A new recipe is available from Grand Master leatherworking trainers to create glove reinforcements, providing a substantial armor bonus. Reinforcements are a permanent enchantment and cannot be placed with other permanent enchantments.
New recipes are available from Grand Master leatherworking trainers to make 20 slot quivers and ammo pouches.
New recipes are available from the Honor Hold, Thrallmar, and Lower City quartermasters to create 24 slot quivers and ammo pouches.
Mining
Mining will no longer cause effects on items to trigger.
Also
Items with Metagems in them will now display the gems required to activate the metagem and whether those requirements have been met on the item tooltip.

"Added a sound for when a cauldron is created. " There is a sound I will never hear. No one uses resistance pots anymore since they were nerfed to lasting only 2 mins with a 2 minute cooldown that is shared with health and mana pots. I have not made resistance pots in months.

@1: Cauldrons are quite useful in raids. Dropping an arcane protection cauldron right before the Aran fight in Karazhan, or before the Curator (also in Kara) can be a big help. If your entire raid pops the potion right before the pull, then immediatly grabs another, you will start the fight with 2 minutes of resistance, and have another one ready to go "just in case". Also, if you need to be popping health/mana pots anywhere in the first 2 minutes of a boss fight, then you problem have bigger issues.
As a healer during the Curator fight, the first 2 minutes with arcane protection is a big help. Undoubtably, one of the arcane sparks will make it my way, and seeing "Absorb" flash without my health dropping is a huge help. They can also help your raid get the aggro balanced early on, when things can be a bit crazy.

looking at the weapon chain it reminds me of god of war... and he could throw his weapons cos hea had a chain, so how bout a chain taht increases attack range or making the weapon having a unimmunable disarm of urself and it deals weapon damage + something to target so and so yards away?

Not only are the Drums of Speed and Restoration now buyable at honored from Mag'har and Kurenai, the patterns for two other drums- Drums of Panic and Drums of Battle- are now purchasable at Honored rep from their original factions. Material requirements have changed as well, it looks like- each drum used to require a few primals, now they require some of the specialized Outland leathers (Fel Hide, Wind Scales, etc.)
Leveling Leatherworking from 365 on just went from exile with the clefthoofs to something actually manageable. I'm...I'm so happy.../sniff

You do realise you do not need to be out of mana before you use a mana potion right?
Especially in longer fights where you know you might run out of mana in the end the common practice in my guild is to pop a mana potion the second you lost the amount of mana the potion would restore.
And if there's a heroism casting at the start of a boss fight or heavy aoe going on that's usually pretty quick.
Try do hm, morogrim for instance, as a mage without a shadow priest in your group and then get back to me about those "bigger issues".

One minute into the fight - pop your biggest mana gem.
Two minutes in - Mana pot.
Three minutes in - second gem.
Four minutes in - Mana pot.
Five minutes in - usually Evocate.
Six minutes in - Pot again, or just the third gem if you're almost done.
That way, if things go pearshaped and you need more Mana to AoE something down, or just burn something really fast, you've got a buffer. That's how I do it, anyways.

@Filipe: tailoring's already the most overpowered profession in the game, at least by PvE standards. If anything, the new Badge of Justice rewards weaken its iron grip on cloth-wearing raiders.

As mentioned by many in the Wow forums, the new Field Repairbot sucks bigtime. The Mats required are outrageous, nobody is going to make a 1-time use bot that can cost upwards between 110g-200g just to make one.
As suggested by many on the forums, make the Repairbot permanent item that you can summon with a cooldown of 2-4hrs and we don't even mind paying 500g+ if necessary.
Someone even suggested that if they keep it a one-time use item, make it so you can recover 10% of total items vendored, so engineers can re-coup the cost of making it.

There is a 20 and 24 slot herb bag for CC rep you only need to be friendly with them to get the 20slots and honored for the 24 slots.
