I believe Pyrewood Village in Silverpine Forest is affected by the day/night cycle -- during the day the village is populated by humans, but at night they turn into Moonrage werewolves.

Notice how some of the Moonrage mobs have the same type as the Pyrewood ones (Sentry, Leatherworker, etc).

Please, no more "fluff" mobs in capital citys, all the soldiers in shatt only serve to make the city laggy for most people, and annoy people with decent graphics. I mean sure you could make them optional, but what`s the point if 90% are going to turn them off.

In the end its a mmorpg, citys should be filled with live players, and the amount of people around does reflect the time, IF is abandoned at midnight, and busy on a Saturday afternoon.

Fluff?

Okay, I'll agree to that. But heres the deal. You turn off your "fluff npc" filter and when I go to attack your town...all your soldiers are gone.

There are no fluff mobs on a pvp server.

Asheron's Call had very obvious day and night cycles, so I don't think technology wise it should be a stretch for Blizzard to make ours better. Honestly, ours are so subtle, I didn't even notice we had them for a long long time. Most zone's just have a 'color shade' to them that overpowers any kind of day and night cycles. Think of Hellfire Peninsula or The Barrens, everything is sorta reddish.

I was thinking about this the other day - imagine if WoW had seasons so that in winter SW is covered in snow, in autumn the trees are all red or bare, that sort of thing. Course that would be a massive amount of work for Blizzard and would never happen but still, it would be cool....

As long as the day/night lighting differences don't make too much difference in game play. As it is, day/night tends to follow my real life day/night so I find myself playing mostly in Azeroth dark on US servers. This usually doesn't make much difference although I have had some trouble seeing mobs in certain areas (Darkshire for one). On Oceanic servers, I play mostly in game daylight and found it an advantage. So, since we can't select our ambient light to match our play time, I think the game is fine as it is.

I'd like to see changing seasons in WOW. I love the rain and monsoons in STV and love when your in a big Dust Storm in Tanaris.

@3 I meant the mobs in shatt, the rows and rows of mobs that just practice fight all the time, I didn't mean pvp guards, and i wasn't even advocating having the filter in the first place. l2read.

I would love some effects of time on the gaming

more strategy, nothing big

more murloc if it's raining in Wetland for example


I love the day/night cycle. if it was my way, in fact the night would be darker and some object will be really useful to see in the dark.

It would be great to dramatize fight in dark cavern or some boss only dropping into the night (and a similar one for the day but with different mechanics but the same loot, everyone happy )



some people seems wanting to play to a shoot and win game. they only fear complications and so on . and they would like a wow with Cube (for characters), a green horizontal space (for the land) and big Spherical objet (blue) for the monsters. and loot then they touch a spherical objet.

I say it would be annoying and stupid. but it's what some people want when they complain it's "trouble seeing mobs in certain areas"

many things wrong , there are no "fluff" mobs, they are here to make a city living, to add fun and ways to play with the game.

the lagg IS ALWAYS because of players (because you have to understand the servers and game client have to sync with hundreds of players at the same time , players with differents computers and connection)

and it's the way it is and blizzard have to fight to create a better world and game even with "laggy".

and in the end, I _want_ more npc and players in better and more interesting landscape and cities. NO simplification.

I have "decent graphics" on my computer and I _want_ the guards, the little bird in the sky, the water dropping and so on.
if wow was only "kill and loot green monsters in a desert landscape" (vangard?) I would have forgot world of warcraft years ago.


Blizzard have to create a game for everyone, that game can be different for you or me.

for example, I prefer a new event with quests and animations than a new Raid donjons.
Blizzard have to do content for every kind of players at the same time.

they do that. and it's great.

Weirdos out in Stormwind the night is a great idea to bring life and diversity. no need to be an army killing newbie !! just one or two vilainous guy in some remote part of the city (there are some) or a slow elite horror in the street, easy to run away.

that kind of stuff would be great. if some people don't care, others will and it will also help to make wow fun and actual.

WTB Rain in Stormwind. Doesn't Darnassus already have rain storms? Maybe during Winter Veil, add at least falling snow to Elwynn, no need to put it on the ground, since that'd be too much work.

I believe Blizz nixed the day/night thing having an impact on gameplay for the reason that they did not want people to feel hindered by playing at any particular time of day or the next... if all the "neat" mobs come out at night, that might make the "day" players feel unfairly treated. Likewise, if all the "important" NPCs retire to bed in the evening, that would not be fair to the "night" players.

It's an interesting concept, but one that would need to be very carefully (and probably boringly) implemented in order to be fair.

The big issue is to make sure that such events don't mess up gameplay for people- who wants to learn that, due to the recent earthquake, their quest mobs are gone?

Odd, we already have one race that is completly defined by the night/day cycle...Night elves. And we get no substantial bonuses from this fact. Not that we should, what with balance in mind and all, but still...it's an interesting thought nonetheless.

Blizzard's implementation of how time passes and how weather comes and goes in its game are nine to twenty-two years behind the times. I am a fan of WoW, but we should remember the games and their creators that came before and established these things years ago.

The original Everquest, almost 9 years ago, *shipped* with better weather effects--from a game-play-effecting standpoint--than WoW has today. Also, its original day/night cycle, and the graphical representation of it, was devastating for those races that couldn't see in the dark.

This is where casual gaming vies against the realistic. You say that you want the game to be more realistic, but do you *really*?

Almost twenty-two years ago, Ultima IV was released, and it contained settlements with denizens that went about their walks of life based on the time of day and the day of the week. This wasn't the aspect of the game that made headlines, but it was unique and ground-breaking nonetheless.

This has all been done before, and well, and years ago. Why isn't it in the mainstream games of today? A bread vendor doing laps, and shouting now and then, between IF bank and auction house doesn't replace a teeming, organic city in the day and a dim and quiet borough at night...

One thing I've noticed that has always perplexed me... The lack of non-orphans running around in Org, versus the myriad of tyke in Stormwind. Also, the apparent lack of kids in any other city, for that matter.

I can understand the idea of Forsaken kids being a touch...unsettling, but where are the Tauren kids, Troll young'uns, Dwarvlings, etc? Personally, I'd like to see more hustle and bustle in the other cities, besides patrols and wandering vendors.

The npcs in Stormwind _do_ change depending on the time of day...
the kids at least are all in at night, not running around town
(fishing, checking out the sights, stealing dolls), iirc.

Once again I refer to my Lineage II days, when the Dark Elf assasins received a passive buff only active at night that gave them either increased crit chance or more strength, cant recall which.
