You're likely already aware that one of the great new features to be unveiled in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion is the ability to change your character's hairstyle. A number of players (including myself) have actually stopped playing certain characters just because our original appearance choices didn't turn out as good in play as they seemed in the character creation screen. Some (including myself) have spent a long time thinking about what a new character should look like and trying out many variations, playing for a bit, deleting them and trying again until you get something you know you can live with for the rest of your character's life.Soon, however, our characers' hairspray will no longer be stone-stiff, and a new era of creative exploration will open up to Azerothians. Existing characters with ugly hair may get a second chance at coolness -- but as many already satisfied players know, your characters' good looks often come from a desire to make them fit, as closely as possible, some image we already have in our mind.
So tell us of your dream for your character, how you envision him or her when you close your eyes. Do you want your Death Knight to look like Darth Vader, or -- heaven forbid -- Chuck Norris? If you like, you could link to a picture you like, or even draw your creative vision for us!
My own most vivid character visualization was for a night elf rogue I had in mind. I wanted her to have the look of an angel who used to live among the stars in the sky, but had somehow gotten lost on earth and forgotten her way home. In hindsight, I was probably very inspired by my favorite Neil Gaiman novel, Stardust, in which a star actually does fall to the earth... and breaks her leg.

For ease of work for Blizzard, my best bet is that we'll only be able to change our hairstyles/colors to those possible at character creation. Thus one need only look at the Create-A-Character menu to see the possible choices.

As a Tauren, I would just like to remove my nose ring.
If I would have known that it would clip through just about any helmet that covered my face I wouldn't have chosen it in the first place.

I want my gnome mage exactly the same... only with a GIANT PINK BEARD.
My only regret will soon be fixed.

I'm pretty satisfied with my troll shaman's looks. I'll probably change his mohawk to orange though. (Why did I pick turquoise? What was I thinking?)
That said, it'll be interesting to see what new options we're given. I seriously doubt that they would make such a big deal out of it if it was just the same stuff we've always had.

In general, I don't base my characters on any known characters to me.
The only character I have that I did approach with a "theme" in mind was my new Blood Elf Hunter who I wanted to be as tomboyish as possible. I had this image of her growing up in the woods among the animals, angering the other more 'refined' blood elves.
So I tried to pick the least made up face, dirty brown hair in a pony tail, and I named her Symantha which is a tomboyish (but feminine) name to me.
But even still, I felt pretty limited when trying to accomplish that goal. If you put her in a line-up with 50 other naked Blood Elves no one is ever going to say "oh there's the tomboy!"

My problem is with the Orc hair, the only normal looking hairstyle is bald.

Oh, and about my Paladin.
One thing I'd like to be able to do is change hairstyles often. For example, in Ret gear I expect my long-haired Pally would probably prefer to put her hair up because she's constantly swinging her big Gorehowl and getting in mobs' grills.
On the other hand, when I'm specced holy and healing, she might as well get dolled up. Ain't no one touching her.

I my dwarf's look pretty well. One thing I wish they would do is stop shaving your head when you where certain head gear. My 40 NE Druid has a pony tail that sticks straight out, but when she wears her Wolfshead Helm it looks like she has a shaven head in back. Her pony tail could still stick out the back, or at least be redirected to go down her back. Same thing with any helmet really. They should make it so long haired toons still have long hair even when wearing helmets.

it's a shame hair is the only change we can make. I'd like to be able to have my nelf lady warrior wear some armour that, you know, looks like armour instead of those god awful metal crotchless chaps I was donning throughout the mid 60s.
Blizzard, please. Enough with pandering to sexually neurotic nerds who get off on 'sexy' chainmail.

I do hope they make more hairstyles, most of my characters look fairly unique, I run into a clone of myself every once in awhile, but my female troll hunter, I run into about half a dozen look a likes a day. I'd like to have a choice between something other than her giant mohawk, I only chose it because that made her look least like she had a receding hairline, and I now know many others agreed ;)

Luckily for me, I was already able to make my character exactly how I wanted. Mystrana is a BE priest, and as such I gave her pale skin and long blonde hair. The hairstyle, with it's simple bangs and shoulder length is actually amazingly close to how I've drawn her in the past.
I hate when hats make her look like she has no hair though, so until I got my Hallowed Crown, I always had hats off.

My main is a level 70 female human Paladin on Bronzebeard(US), named Alessia. I imagine she hates the slutty armor she always has to wear, and that's why I make her wear her guild tabard 90% of the time. Alessia (and I) don't appreciate other toons ogling her.
She's not a girly girl by any means, and for outfits she collects the grey cloth, leather and mail ones for fun (and for guild fashion shows).
I imagine her to have grown up in a family of all boys, which is why she is rough and tough and a Paladin. She has soft features and hair thrown back, because hairdo's were never her forte. I am mostly happy with her looks, I mean... when the Judgement Crown dropped, I had it on "Show Helmet" under I found something better in Outlands (and uglier, which is why I turned the show helmet off) :]

the default body of characters are fine, nice and all.
but my real wish would be the possibility to change height, weight and body feature of the character, to have diversity.
a thin warlock, a hunchback warrior, a tiny fat shy mage and so on.
I understand it's a huge and complex work and tremendous for artists and developpers with all cloths, swords, shields and so on and the animation which need to be fine whatever the choices of the player.
but it's my real wish :)
