Welcome one and all to this week's edition of Ask WoW Insider, wherein your questions are published for the public to answer. Last week we looked at optimizing rep grinding, and this week we turn our attention to a more nostalgic question -- what's your best "ding!" story? Obron from Zangarmarsh (ICftB reprazent!) writes: I was thinking, that it always makes my friends laugh when I tell them how I ding'd 70, by discovering a forge camp in Blade's Edge while running by it.Any fun or interesting stories to tell about hitting the level cap? Or more generally, any memorable or unusual dings at any level?
Does anybody have some entertaining or funny stories about when they hit 60 or 70?
As always, we at Ask WoW Insider are starving for your questions! Send them our way at ask AT wowinsider DOT com.

I play Alliance. My plan was to hit 60 by discovering Orgrimmar, and to hit 70 by discovering Silvermoon. Well, I hit 60 by turning in a quest in Honor Hold (I did savor the moment of presing the butt though, and I let my guild know.)
I WILL hit 70 by discovering Orgrimmar. MARK MY WORDS!

I'm always a fan of when I've been a particularly difficult pull and had some adds that would make it near impossible to survive, and then right at about 10% health dropping one, dinging the next level and being back to full health/mana and pulling it off. :)

Not sure if this is the type of story you want, but recently my guild-mate and I had a contest to see who could level to 50 the fastest. It got to the point that we were both 49 one night, playing very late. My guildie kept saying how close he was, something like half a bar. At 3am, and 10ish bars off, i conceded and bid him good night. Surprisingly when i logged in the next morning, i found he was still 49. So i ground mobs for a bit. Then he logs in. At this point I was very close to dinging, and i mention the fact. He didn't believe me. Then I dinged. Massive cows ensued. It was great! Something added to the tedium of leveling anyway.

My buddy was on his horde toon, and I was on my Alliance (both of us on Skype mouthing off to each other). We were stealing each others kills, when I put a dot on one of his mobs he began to attack. He had to kill it with me getting the XP. I dinged 70 on my Warlock because of him.

My favorite dings are in instances, particularly in the middle of tough/botched pulls. The best was in Strat at level 57 or so, accidentally pulled 2 groups and adds got out of control. We somehow managed to get most of the adds down and DING! I get all my hp and mana back and help finish off the rest of the group.

I thought it was funny when my NE druid hit 49 while she was dead. (I was talking to the Ghost north of the Gadget GY as part of the Linken chain.) =)

When my Tuaren Warrior was getting ready to ding 40 in Desolace I had just overpulled and had 3 mobs on me, I fought it out and was just about to finish the last mob off when a couple alliance 33 and 35 roll up and saw me about to die, so they do what alliance do and started to come at me. I thought for sure I was dead when I saw the mage start casting his little fireball at me but just as the last mob went down "ding" 40 Full health Full rage bar. Followed shortly by 2 dead alliance :). Best part was when they saw me ding and started running away.

I dinged my Dwarf Warrior to 60 by getting really close in XP (like 20 pts away), then rode around Durotar until I discovered enough areas (granting like 4 xp per) so that I was 1 discovery away from the big DING. I then positioned myself at the gate and rode straight into ORGRIMMAR, discovering it, DINGING, and then getting Ravaged by about 15 players and guards.

My ding's are consistently dull. Middle of nowhere, fighting a generic scorpion or bear that I happened to agro and then drops nothing. :) So nice being 70, no more of that rubbish.

when i'm about to ding, even if it's not something cool in game, there's usually something awesome going on IRL. like i try to 1-bite a wienerschnitzel chilidog, or pour gatorade on myself, while dancing to "she's a maniac".
it makes it a more memorable experience.

One time I dinged my warrior in Redridge while charging due to an exploration experience bonus. So I charged the rest of the way to my enemy leaving behind a streak of sparks. It was apparently pretty cool, according to my duo partner.

7: That's awesome.
I looked at my post and realized I meant to type "button" but instead said "butt." Hehe.
I remembered another time I dinged, though, and that was hitting level two on my Draenei (my current main.) We were all talking on general saying how 1-2 is the hardest in the game :P

After I had farmed for hours to get to 59 and only a bit more xp to 60 pre-tbc, I asked my friend to help me kill an elite. After 10 minutes of searching for it he killed some random mob to ding me, I still hate him for that.

Favorite leveling story: Running around completing quests in Searing Gorge, often I am not really focused on how close I am to leveling, so it's a happy surprise when it happens.
That being said, I could have thought of better places to be than completing the quest "Caught!" in Searing Gorge wherein you have to kill 8 dark iron dwarves and bring 15 pieces of silk to another dwarf locked in an outhouse.
So I leveled up bringing a dwarf some TP. Very valiant.

Going along with the theme of betting, I was about three bubbles into 69 and it was nine at night. I was visiting my boyfriend at work, where on Wednesdays, he works til one in the morning. Usually, I'm asleep by then.
But tonight, I told him, I was gonna ding 70 before he did. He said I wouldn't be able to do it. So I enlisted a helpful guildie friend, and the two of us quested like fiends for several hours that night until I finally dung and was very happy.

well this goes a long way back. My first character was a rogue (shocker I know) and I was attacking a mob in the WPL. As I had the mob down to about half a tauren (cant recall the class) started attacking me. I killed the mob when I was at about half health and "dinged" 70, and as you know you go to full health and get all your new stamina points etc. The horde was so freaked out he took off running and I was laughing too hard to chase him.

Back in the day, when Ony was the big deal, my sister planned out a great level 60 (then the cap) ding. Her name is Ferral on Elune, and she just loved the Ony lore, and epic nature of the attunement.
Anyway she went so far as to plan out by the XP awarded to time her ding, and did it on the part of the storyline where you march through stormwind with Windsor to confront the Lady Ony herself in Stormwind Keep. Back then it was pretty epic whenever anyone did it, and many of our guildies, and other onlookers gathered for the event.
Very cool moment, and a classy way to ding.
