In an exclusive interview with Gamasutra, Blizzard revealed they have 3 development teams hard at work on games. WoW has 135 developers, Starcraft II's team has 40 members and a third unannounced title has a team of 40 members. Frank Pearce, Blizzard's Senior Vice President of Product Development, said "Team 3 is working on something really awesome. I can't give you any hints but it's totally awesome."Be still my beating heart. Of course, the speculation on the forums has begun and Blizzard CM Tigerclaw is fanning the flames:
When our awesome new World War II first person shooter ships, you'll all be saying "aw why didn't I see that coming!"
A few players suggested that World of Tacocraft is on the horizon. Tigerclaw ran with the idea:
You could have power-ups and add-ons, like you could wrap the taco in an authentic Chicago-style pizza... maybe even dip it in batter and then deep fry it til it's golden brown... That's what I call a Taco!
Personally, I would like to see Diablo 3 or another MMO on the horizon. Hopefully, they will tell us more at Blizzcon, but Blizzard is notoriously reticent with this kind of information, so I'm not holding my breath.
What new game would you like to see from Blizzard? Do you think they'll tell us at Blizzcon? Would you eat a deep fried, pizza wrapped taco?

Blizzard's big three franchises are Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo. Now that they've announced the new Starcraft game, another Diablo would mean they have new games in all three (with the next WoW expansion), so I think this is most likely. Either that, or something completely unexpected that'll take us all by surprise...like if it actually is a World War II first person shooter.

People have been talking about D3 for ages, didn't someone even go on the record at having seen an Alpha build.
My money is on D3 as a sort of Titan Quest looking Diablo meets Guild Wars. No fee, not as deep as an MMO (don't want to canibalise WoW customers) but an evolving world with online towns and instanced battle zones, form a party or just solo and trade in town etc...
Could be cool :)

I think the time has come for them to start up a new franchise. They could keep making Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo games until the end of time, but I don't think they want to. So, it's probably something new. I REALLY don't think it's a new Diablo game.
Or, they could resurrect one of their older franchises. I'd love to see a new Lost Vikings or Blackthorne game.

yeah, I for one think that it'd be great seeing something new. Blizzard are bloody skilled at making games, so it doesn't make sense for them to just limit themselves to 3 franchises. lets hope for something new, fresh and good!

A completely new franchise would be nice! I don't care if it's a MMO, RTS or shooter, as long as it has that typical Blizzard feeling to it! :)

Tigerclaw is not a CM, he's actually one of the Mac developers for WoW. He just happens to ocassionally post on the forums to help with support for the Mac.

World of Starcraft. Capitalizes on the Starcraft lore buzz from SC2 and keep the money press running once WoW becomes old news.

They aren't doing a WWII shooter. That just seems so highly unlikely. That concept's been milked into the ground so hard. (I won't even begin to list the games of that genre that were made in the last few years...) I honestly think it'll either be Diablo 3 or a new RTS that's going to be similar to Warcraft. They know which parts of their past games have made them successful and I hope they'll continue it. Blizzard doing a FPS, though... That would be trying to diversify too much, in my opinion. It's better to be awesome at one thing than to moderately suck at 3.

WoW = MMO
Starcraft 2 = RTS
therefore
Diablo 3 = RPG
It makes sense to keep the three bases covered. They could go off and create a new IP to cover the single player RPG, by why mess with success? If they do create a new IP, it outta be damn good to placade those who would be otherwise despondent over the lack of a new Diablo.
