There was some confusion yesterday about it, but as of right now, the fix is easy-- go to AVG's website and update it to the latest version. The most recent definitions rule WoW's directory A-OK, so everything should be fine. Apparently this is not the only false positive problem AVG has had this week-- Google Desktop was also ruled a virus, so either AVG is being too strict, or these two big software companies are getting a little too grabby for Grisoft's tastes.

Two days ago WoW would fail to execute, then I got this error with AVG before I formatted yesterday. I doubt it's related...?

My buddy has been affected by this, it deleted his fmod.dll entirely. I'm sure grisoft has the patch remove this false positive, but what about fixing his botched installation? They should work with Blizzard to restore the file, not just "fix" their program.

Yes it is related. I had the same problem. AVG was actually stopping WoW from starting by fooling with that dll, even if you tell it to ignore it still won't leave the file alone. I had to disable the resident shield to make it stop.

Yep, I had to disable the resident shield as well (don't just shut down AVG via your system tray). Open up the AVG console and shut down the shield. WoW should boot up fine after that.
If your .dll was deleted, you can download a replacement. I'm too lazy to find the link, but it was within Blizzard's support forum.

We lost one of our hunters on Thursday night's Gruul raid because of this, he uninstalled WoW and was getting ready to reformat before he finally learnt it was a false positive. :(

I ended up reformatting because of this, forced guild to raid Kara instead of Mag because I wasn't there to heal!
